Time Trial# 60: Speed 6 RM @ GP/D & 512BB @ Rome

^ interesting you mention brake release oversteer Stotty. It was the overriding theme when I had a few laps. I'm far from being in your league of course but found it unusually troublesome. I don't use ABS though, and braking into corners is a must on this track.

The car understeers really badly, so using brake release oversteer really helps point it in to the turn.

I still had AS strong on last night, and don't think this is the best way on this one - the AS tries to straighten the car out too much, and makes it much harder to transition from brake release oversteer to a controlled slight drift mid corner.

As always, the skill is in getting just the right amount of oversteer on entry, then not lighting the rear tyres up too much mid corner, so you can still get hard on the gas at the exit... that's what seperates the Aliens from the merely quick

This is needed most in turn 6 and 7 I think. I got it Perfect once and just can't do again! I loose .800 every lap!lol

Just had another go in the 512... it really is a sweet combo. Improved to 1'17.7 for 17th off an absolutely rubbish T2... and ruined loads more decent laps through late snap oversteer in the final corner.

Also had another quick go in the TVR. It's much harder to drive at the limit than the 512 as a fraction too fast on entry = massive understeer. Managed to get in the top 50, but need a good session to crack it... finding 3rd best for most of the exits, with a quick downchange to 2nd mid corner to keep the nose on line.

I managed to get gold in 2nd lap of Nürburgring and 1st lap of rome, i tried to improve it.

Enjoying both TT.

Put bungee straps on my pedals :) and put wheel settings to amateur and ff to 4.

This has made a big difference, will keep trying.

In the top 100 at the moment for both :)

Seriously on 4? mine still on 10 ff.. i need to change it.. fed up driving like a gorilla fighting a bear ha ha..

I use FF3... though I do use slightly higher levels on some cars from time to time.

I find lower FF levels allow finer steering corrections to be made more accurately.

What wheel are you using?

What wheel are you using?
Its the basic DFGT.

Find the pedals both far to light and If I turn up ff high the steering wheel gears grind and become clunky :grumpy:

Had the wheel set on professional which made the car fairly lively, but putting to amateur helps with traction out of the bends and generally easier to control.

I put a sponge in the cavity behind the brake pedal of my DFGT.

That stiffens it up nicely and acts as a load cell as it gets stiffer the more you press down on it.

I've never had any reason to do anything with the throttle though.

I really like the 512BB in this TT. I'm going to use it in a few more races now.

The amateur/professional/simulation setting does not apply to the DFGT wheel. It only applies to the three wheels that are highlighted: GT Force, Driving Force and the Driving Force EX. Any difference you may perceive is just in your head :).

Lol been using the wheel for a while.

It does say driving driving force on the wheel :dopey:

Think my eye sight is failing in my old age :)

I'm really surprised!
After about 30 laps I got 1:19:380 for 677 position! Maybe It's because only have passed 3 days since the event opened.
I think 1:18:900 is possible for me.

This was going going to be my next comment to him. Just wanted to make sure what wheel he was using first.

Great combo at Rome
Improved to 17.5x. The right hander after the long straight is really a gamble' corner...
Using brake balance 5 5

Don't know why but I thought the Ferrari race was in a F1 car so didn't bother with it as they are just too quick for me.

Anyway had a look and it wasn't. Best lap so far 1:20.894.

And it seems to me that both these Time Trials, as well as some previous ones, seem to focus on drifting around corners.

Is there a 'drifting' conspiracy afoot? Trying to build up drifter numbers by getting drivers accustomed to that style of driving here?

No, don't think so, but then again stranger things have happened here................

Don't think there's any drifting conspiracy floating around. You still have to 'point-and-shoot' these cars if you want a quick laptime.

I can confirm its a logitech driving force wheel so the settings are valid a and make a difference :)

Think I need to fit 2 bungee straps might help my time 👍

Lol shameless.

Let me explain myself before I get a bunch of hate mail from IMMORTAL fans. I do not hate the guy at all. As a matter of fact, I respect his driving talents and give him all the credit in the world for being as good as he is. And no, I am not jealous of his abilities, I quite admire them actually. The problem I have is that he comes off as elitist and continually throws his talent in everyone's face. We all know how good he is, there is no need for him to come off like he is some GT God. There are plenty of people that are as good as he is, if not better, and you hardly hear a peep from them. Where I come from, you let your talent speak for itself, you get alot more respect that way. There is no need to further back it up by bragging about how good you are. That only speaks of someone that is starving for attention. Again, no disrespect to IMMORTAL, he just needs to do a little less bragging.

No, just someone thats getting tired of seeing his, "Come one, come all, come see the greatest driver in the world" type posts, thats all.

I think he is happy of his time trial achievements like you are happy for your time trial achievements.

It is funny I always thought americans hate the who-do-you-think-you-are attitude, but I might be wrong :sly:
