hello guys
let's go for a session on Le Mans. I tried the Nissan yesterday but I'm really having trouble exiting corners and changing gears. So I'll stick with the Mazda. I'm going to try it today with the GT DD Pro to see what happens, otherwise I'm going back to the DS5.

So I got the Viper safely into Gold (hopefully) and that's enough of that boaty nonsense for me, I know it's a nuanced combo but with the behemoth of Le Mans in front of me I have little desire to spend anymore time at Autopolis.

Onto Le Mans then and have done about an hour of largely invalidated laps in the Nissan, the track limits on this one are borderline ridiculous, not least because some of them are essentially invisible until you are close enough to see a faint white line at 150 mph :mad:

Sadly the BOP renders most of the other options impossible for a mere mortal like me, I tested the Merc and the Porsche and while both are far more 'manageable' (the Merc is a dream) both are rendered too slow to compete (unless you're an alien, I notice there are some Merccs in the top few 100) So it's back to the Nissan and the prospect of possibly not improving on my Silver unfortunately, I just can't see me investing the time and patience in this one which is sad because the track and cars are legendary, the track limits, not so much.

I can´t drive anything near that with my controller ,so i don´t know if its going to help me out that much trying to replicate his driving?
I believe Chafe uses a controller. I know @EbrahimX7 mentioned it before and as a regular #1 on the time trials, I suspect he has inside knowledge. @Tidgney might be able to confirm too?

Like @half_sourly mentioned its very possible to end high up the international board with a controller, I have occassional visits in the top 100 so if I can....... 😁😁

@Tidgney runs his laps now a days or (happy days 🤣) on the pad too on his guides, less fast than his wheel laps but then again he only uses his controller for the guide every week and still is damn fast with it

Most importantly, watching guides and replays gets you an idea what gearing they use, that you can replicate 1 on 1, braking points too altho they often are braking later because these guys where born trailbraking.

I can't replicate all but it definitely helps and helped me getting faster 😁
 
He completely switched to using a wheel at the start of this year I believe, so he's no longer a controller user.

@Kentali92 the point remains. Controller should not be the reason to hold you back. Just look at our scoreboards to see how often controller users get into the top 100. @jontikis for example regularly has top 10 in the world finishes and unless he has changed to wheel and not let me know, he is on a controller.

The choice is yours whether to look for reasons you are not as fast as you want to be, or to look for ways to improve with the tools at your disposal.

For some time I thought I was wrong by not copying what I saw in the fast guys' replays. At least, accepting that I have a poor set of skills.

But! When I started thinking just like Gomario says (getting the references and ideas) rather than trying to replicate what I saw 1:1, I started getting better results. Lately I've been able to enter the gold zone on Thursday already and improve during the weekend, while back in January/February I usually got only a solid silver around Friday and then enter the gold territory on Sunday. I guess I've been learning things! 😁

I thought I was just slow and unable, but seeing a fellow (and faster than me) driver saying "I can't replicate but it definitely helps" gives me hope I'm not totally wrong. 😅

Anyways, let me go back to my TT off week. 😅😅😅😅

Like I said before, Interlagos is a pretty cool track IMO with a very nice flow to it, that was definitely the good part of the combo... the other not-so-good half was unfortunately the car.
It's very good in terms of acceleration and overall stability, but I just don't like its behavior under (hard) braking, it's like the front wheels simply lock up and you get an avalanche of understeer, even with ABS Default.

Anyway, I'm proud of my lap time. As usual, I could be chasing tenths to improve a little more but, in this particular case, I just lost the willpower to do so, my skills took me this far so I'll take my prize and walk away happily.

The bottom line is: I'm not into this to obsess over my lap times and I'm definitely NOT going to put myself through the suffering of chasing for those missing tenths for hours, my play time is very limited so I want to use it to do things I actually enjoy and have fun doing... sure, if a combo really sparks my interest then I could dedicate a little more time to it (when possible), but when a combo fails to captivate me, then I'll just do my best for a few laps and accept whatever the prize I get and move on.

Speaking of interesting combos, the next one is a good example:

This one is a pretty nice combo, if you ask me. Really enjoy this kind of challenge, technical tracks with road cars :D
I've made a good improvement here, been trying to use Tidgney's gearing for this one but a few laps later I started to feel like it wasn't working for me... so ditched the "3rd gear only" strategy and decided to use 2nd gear (and short-shifting to 3rd when applicable) way more often and almost immediately shaved an extra 1.1 seconds off my PB.

Further improvement is very possible, it's all a matter of putting together a good enough lap (no kidding?!)
I'm not going to fool myself here: Gold is out of the equation, but I really love this track and the Viper so I'd like to keep pushing, maybe I can find some more tenths here and there.

Thinking about trying ABS Weak for a change, just to see if it helps me in any way... probably it will help me to find even more understeer or make me wash out of the corners with even greater ease, so can't wait to try it! 🤣

PS: About that Le Mans TT... or should I call it "Understeer Festival".
Haven't properly "tried" this one yet, only made like 10 laps, and only 3 of them where actually valid.
The result? Still almost a second off from Bronze... :indiff: (yes, I'm driving the Nissan)
Enough as been said about the track limits, but words cannot express the frustration inflicted by them.
I used to race a lot at La Sarthe with many different cars in GT6, and had a ton of fun there! Of course, back then we didn't have these ridiculous track limits to worry about...
On the other hand, there's the cars... and while they're absolutely awesome on the straights, when it comes to braking & turning in at the same time, it's a complete disaster.
You can't really do both things at the same time, you either have to choose to turn in or brake.
I need to adjust my driving to suit the behaviour of these racing machines... this time for me though, even scoring a Bronze is going to be a struggle.

Am I the only one missing a good old Time Trial with a FF car here?!
Come on PD, where well overdue on that, give us TTs with FWD cars!
 
I jumped on the Autopolis TT for the second time since my time had slipped out of gold. It took me a while to adjust to how awful the Viper drives again. So it took like a dozen of laps, but I think I got myself back into a safe gold.

Now the Le Mans TT scares me. I might skip that one.
 
What car is he using on that fast lap? I don´t want to believe he drives with a controller ,but if he does ,i suck really big time in this game :D
Hi mate. When I joined this TT thread I was reaching P 20 000 as best. Got very useful advices from skilled people here during TTs and trying to put those advices in practice made me reach much better times. My first (valid) lap on current Gr. 1 TT I reached P120something and I think I am P150-ish currently, with still almost a second to improve if I get time to put some effort and nail all sectors in one and same lap. What I want to say, this thread is THE best coach/advisor/community you can get to improve in TTs. If you want I will gladly look into your lap and give advices how to get faster times. We can start by improving Mulsanne straight first if you want, a lot of time to gain/lose there.
If you want, share your replay in game and I will take a look. You are on manual gearbox right?

D-pad arrows for steering
X for accelerator
Square for brake

You got better results than me at both the Interlagos TT and Autopolis, so I am confident you'll at least get bronze at Le Mans if you care to continue trying.

I can't remember which aliens they are but there on some on this very forum that do use those setups, it amazes me how they can drive like that, especially with D-pad for steering
 
Hey folks - work these days really doesn’t allow much lappery, but had a very late night session last night at Le Mans after everyone was in bed. I’m not that quick here but I do enjoy the track especially these cars. Using my trusty 962 for now (unpopular choice it seems but also the same car I used for the last Gr1 event here) and sitting on 3:30.1. Agree this seems to be a tougher be to gold but I think I’m probably going to be spending more time in this than in the Viper :cheers:

New 5 laps stint with the Nissan. And nice improvement. In the 36s now... yesterday's best lap was a low 38. Optimal getting down a good bit too so there is still potential. Medium on 5 laps is better than previous best lap.

Still doing silly mistakes here and there, but improving on some turns.
 
This is proving to be quite a grind, lol. Had to go back in and turn a 3:29.113 to get back into gold. I should be able to squeeze into the :28's I'm sure.

Right now it's telling me I have an optimal of 3:27.981, so a :28 is definitely in the tank if need be.

I’ve got myself into the 1:33s, just outside of Silver after a few laps. I’m still learning the Nissan and this is the first time I’ve driven it in VR. It’s pretty nice.

I do have a question for the knowledgeable though. In VR on the rev counter there is a red indicator. I assume that is the shift point, but the engine revs completely pass that up to the 8000 mark. What’s best for extracting the most time out of this car. Should I be shifting at the indicator which is about 7200 RPM or blow past it and shift closer up to the 8000 mark?

Plus any idea what the gauge on the left does?

EDIT.

I can answer my own question. Looking at the top replays they shift at the 8000 line. And the left gauge is the turbo boost pressure.
