It's been 9 months since I last posted here. Just as long since I was able to get into my rig and play GT. Today was the day I could get behind the wheel again.
And what can I say, it feels like I'm starting all over again. I didn't read up on GT during that time, it would have hurt too much, but the physics definitely feel different. That doesn't make it any easier to get started.
It's much easier to lock up under braking now. At least that's how it feels.
To see where I stand after all this time, I sat in the Red Bull Junior and did a few laps in Spain. It's really demotivating to see how much pace I've lost and I don't know if I have the motivation to fight my way back.
At the beginning I hardly managed to put a lap together, but after about 2-3 hours I was able to do a 1:44.967.
Not where I want to be, but not disastrous either. Let's see if I can make it into the top 100, a few tenths should still be possible. Normally the top 100 is no problem, but after all this time it's a brutal challenge.
I hope you've been doing well in the meantime.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

It's nice to see you back running laps with us, @RWinkelmann.
Hope you all are having a good holiday so far. Just watch any replay you can or even watch SuperGT's, Tidgney's and TheKie's guides. They tell and show helpful information to improve your driving skills on the track. I believe in you. And always have faith.

I gotta say, if I was off GT7 for 9 months I probably wouldn't be able to get a bronze time, let alone a nearly-top-100 time! That's just disgusting! lol

Man, the struggle is real for me in the Red Bull right now. I've put in hours since hitting exactly 3.00% yesterday and haven't been able to improve. My average lap time is probably within a couple tenths of my best time but still haven't bettered it! Sheer agony my friends!

lol...I don't think there's much he's going to learn from watching laps at this point!

I think he has a decent idea of what he's doing. All time scoreboard below.

yeah, at the rate you're going it could take several hours to get back to the top 20!
Definitely not today.

Try again tomorrow, but the last tenths are usually the most difficult.
Must first check whether my FFB settings are still up to date. More has changed than I had hoped 😂

It's good to see you back on the board again, what I understand out of your message is that it wasn't realy possible for you in the last few months, very happy you arrived again, cause you absolutely posted some real high times back then, so for now.... I'm proud 🤣🤣

Welcome back 🙏

Trust me, you don't want to give this guy anymore tips , he knows enough .... 🤣🤣

Yes, my flat was completely renovated due to water damage.
That's why my simulator was in storage.
It wasn't easy to beat your times back then, but when I did, I knew immediately that the time was worth something.

Nice to see that you have made progress in the meantime. It will certainly be very difficult to beat you in the future.

You never know, you might be able to go a step or two further with your superior skills, and glad to hear you got your house fixed and are able to play gt7. Did you know I got a ps5 a week and a half ago?

No, I didn't know that.

To be honest, I didn't read any further here because I was pretty pissed off about not being able to play, so I isolated myself in that respect.
I'm definitely glad to hear that, congratulations and have fun.

BWX
He must have hitched a ride back to Earth on the New Jersey orbs.

Insanely quick for not playing in 9 months, or for playing for 30 years.

Weird GIF
Also, I think he has a good memory on how to use MT and all the braking/cornering for any track, even the Ring itself! Yeah, it is amazing how he is still quick after a 9 month break, now that gives me hope for my own skills.

Dude.. aliens have mad skills us mere mortals can never hope for, but even I don't forget stuff like shifting!

His worse day at the wheel after 9 months in space camp is better than most people on the planet could ever achieve. He needs no help from anyone, trust me bro.

Oh, Goodwood, how you tease me so. I hadn't been there in a few days so went back to give it a go again today. Figured, why not try out ASM? I immediately felt more stability in turn 1 and the chicane (or maybe it was the placebo effect, I don't know :P). And I improved my time! :dopey: By .001...:ouch:

So then I tried bumper cam. I've never been comfortable with the view, but holy moly did it help in certain turns! I was consistently putting down .7, even .6 sector 1's. And instead of making it through the chicane 1 out of every 10 times, I had more of a 50-75% success rate. The problem? I couldn't come close to matching my sector 2 times for some reason. So I never could best my previous time. I did some hybrid laps where I would run bumper cam in turn 1, switch to my usual chase cam for sector 2, then back to bumper for sector 3. But it was a jarring effect that would my mind couldn't get used to quickly enough sector to sector. The car feels like a rocket ship in bumper cam and a Sambabus from chase. I'll do some more practice from the bumper in sector 2. I think eventually I'll be able to run it good enough to improve my overall time. I hope.

Hey all guys and gals, I said I would perservere and nail that GOLD time, and today I manged to achieve it in the MEGANE RS at Goodwood! Well chuffed! This time a lap video included! ENJOY!! LFG!!
