Good day racers!

I'm still struggling a bit to invest a lot of time (work and other games) into the TTs. Still, I did manage to fall down a rabbit hole at Daytona, a track I previously was lukewarm on but now find it quite fun, as I've tried almost every GT3 car in the game and have managed to get most near the gold time and about 5 (Porsche, Z4, Corvette, Viper and Ford GT) into Gold, btw I'm very impressed with @skydragon49 efforts in a wide range of cars  It's been quite fun trying out the different cars and would welcome this opportunity with TTs more often.

The downside has been that I've spent too much time on different machinery and not enough on improving in one car, so with that in mind I had to decide which one to focus on for the last 24 hours of the event. It was between the Viper, the Ford GT and the Corvette (the latter I stumbled on only yesterday)

The Viper, I'm well prepared to concede, is the fastest car here as reflected in this thread and on the leaderboards, however, I think it drives like a bag of spanners, the gearing feels weird, it's too quick to throw this old dude into barriers and generally left me wanting something more pointy and less 'hassle'

The Ford GT then, was my initial choice to focus on, it's quick, more pointy and has better gearing for my driving style but I struggle to get the power down as early as I'd like (my skill issue) I could get it easily into Gold but then stalled out when trying to improve.

So finally I came late to the Corvette and boy I'm glad I did, it lacks the overall grunt of the other two but not by much and is far more drivable, for me, in the corners and will happily let you get on the power early out of turns and the gearing is perfect with smooth, progressive shifting at 6,500 rpm (BTW the Z4 has similar dynamics and I think would be very quick in the right hands)

I've now got this evening to try and squeak into the 1:45's, not sure I'll do it and probably should have chosen my steed earlier but it's been fun nonetheless.

PS Don't be afraid of the triggers, they will, in time, be your friend.
PS2 All my efforts are TC 0 and ABS weak
PS3 All liveries here are on my profile

@feral and bad
I agree entirely.
For example, if I come out of a slow lap, I don’t necessarily prepare the next one by optimizing speed.
Because for teh turn 1, my brake marker is the broken white line.
I prefer to position myself on his left to brake with the right wheels straight as long as possible.
I’m more comfortable trying to shave the left wall.
In the output, it’s not more effective (compared to some replays)... I’m just more comfortable like that.
It’s always interesting to see that despite the same options (circuit, car, tires) styles can be very different.
Among the best, I see very flowing styles and some very aggressive ones.

@KK78 I really like the Viper, it's my fav Gr.3 and Gr 4 car and also the road cars are among my most beloved cars either in real life or in the GT games. Even the understeer festival that the SRT-10 was in a recent TT we had.

But... The Corvettes are better handling cars. The road cars (C6 and C7 and of course the ZR-1) are amazing cars already in their stock settings.
Same goes for the Gr.3 car, sadly it lacks the power and speed the Viper has. I wish it could have a BOP boost some day.

Congratz on entering the gold range, and I'm glad the Vette worked for you and I'd say it is a safe bet to get into the 45's. 😎

Cheers, it is strange because I'm sure I've used the Viper in past events but don't recall the gearing and general balance bothering me too much, maybe it has been tweaked or something. My testing of several cars highlighted how the BOP could use a little work across the board, the two BMW's (Z4 and M6) new Supra, Porsche RSR Renault RS 0.1 and Alfa Romeo were all competitive but ultimately felt a little underpowered (in my hands at least)

Overall though it's been a fun experience and I'm hungry for another reasonably balanced BOP GT3 event soon, being able to consider multiple cars adds a really good dimension to the TT experience imo.

I compromised as follows: straighten the entry out by not being as high on the banking, thereby straightening the turn out somewhat, brake hard a car length before the overhead warning light before the bus top, release to settle the car and straighten out, before finally accelerating. Although my result was absolutely terrestrial (145.133), I managed to generally only lose 2-3 tenths in the bus stop sector against Tidgney. Hope this in some way helps.
Ken
I have a similar way of getting to this turn : not too much on the right to straighten the first left in order to limit how much I need to turn right once inside the bus-stop.

After that it is mainly a question of how much I've decelerated prior to that moment :
  • too much, I can throttle early but I've lost too much speed
  • too little and I widen my right turn and have to coast longer in order to not invalidate the lap on exit of bus-stop

Not found a way yet to register how to balance my braking there and to repeat it with consistency.

I will practice on CE, this is the same car (not sure about BoP) and I'll be able to repeat the bus-stop many times without having to do a full lap each time. (Already golden it long ago, so I won't get sweet sweet credits this time).

Thanks for your input !

Painted the car yellow and it went couple tenths faster

Yeah everybody is wasting time by thinking about ABS weak or normal... downshift early or late.
But all it takes to improve your time is the yellow color. 👍

A bit disappointed that it wasn't a .5 when i was crossing the line. Looks like the 2nd half of the track felt faster than it actually was. 😕

Sometimes I feel like a Sargent Logan in a thread filled with Max Verstappens.

This place is fast!
I feel like a monkey with a controller, if it can comfort you 😅

Tonight I went on CE sector 3 of Daytona, to be able to repeat quickly the bus-stop.

Did just less than 102km, each try (if not failed) is around 1.5km. Got gold time... 4 times 😅, then 50/50 silver and bronze.

Not sure how many tries it amounts to, but I'd say at least 65.

Watched the demo 10 times also, cannot fathom how he manage to place the car this way, very late braking (if I do the same I am in the grass on the right of the bus-stop), manage to keep the car under control and turn quite abruptly left, right, then coasts for very long and nearly wait for second yellow curb on the righ to put throttle down and darts into the horizon, how is it even possible ??? feels like he has aero-brakes on the entry and nitro on the exit 😱

I have to slow down much more to be able to make it.

At least I learnt one thing : don't try to throttle as soon as possible, result will be worse if not perfectly positioned on the track. Better coast a bit longer and not be greedy, will not be a top time but it'll be better than a red lap.

[Edit]and times got much lower for each treshold compared to when I golded it the first time 😯I had gold with 17.0XX now you need 16.600

Sometimes we have the impression we're hitting the brakes at the same spot a demo or a guide video's showing us and nothing is working the same. Situations like that I adjust the braking a little bit earlier, just a bit. It usually works.

The Daytona bus stop, we're always focusing on cutting the exit just right, but for me at least, cutting the entry is more important. The eletronic flag device is the brake marker and turn in when you're just about to pass the "1" board.

Don't say you're a monkey, you're a fast driver in development. You're getting there, TT after TT we see your progress.

And now you made me go again

Again a tenth off from optimal but ok... I guess that's the story of this TT :D
Great time, man. Impressed by you lot up there. Also amazed you can do so many sessions throughout so many days. I don’t know how you do it. Maybe I got some fatigue **** but all I can bother with these days is a single evening session a couple of hours... maaaaybe a second day if I gave myself too little time the first evening and left way too much time on the table, or if I seriously enjoy the combo. But that seems to be rare these days. :boggled:

I know, I brake at least 30m before 🤣

I turn in way before, otherwise I end up in the grass 😅

I'll graduate from monkey when I'll use MT. Until then... But thanks for your kind words.

I will stop at Daytona. I did get a time under 1'50.000 into this morning, 1'49.916. I might try the Corvette C3 car one time but that's going to be pretty much it for this challenge. I think most people are having trouble at the turn near the Sunoco logo and Sector 3. I only ran a total of 55 laps this time. I conserved my energy. That's sufficient enough in my case. I agree with Lomic, I feel like a gorilla with the controller too, but we all have our abilities and accept what we can do here. I did find this TT fun though, I guess Daytona is a fine course. It's just that people need to just run laps and test certain cars to determine which one gives them the best results.

Thanks many much! :D

Having battled @Dan_Tes @bliprunner @A_Higher_Place and couple of others (sorry if I forgot to list you) for the past several months in almost every single TT, and it's a battle of thousands most of the time, it's come to the point of no return  I just cannot let it go until I squeeze every last drop out of it.

Of course, like you said, I enjoy some TTs more, some less, for example Spa with the NSX, I just didn't, I did one session and that's it, I hated the understeer and the way the car handles even though it's my favourite track in the world. But when I decide in my mind that I must beat some of the guys here, it's over, I must

Jesus Christ

I didn’t want to revisit this one but the battle is on

I need some alcohol, @Gomario JSP give me a wine recommendation!

Oh and @A_Higher_Place and @ikon_313 yes nailed it an R53 Cooper S. it’s actually for the wife @newmedia_dev 😂

(aaand back on topic)

I did a few laps at BH but they errr frustrating laps. I even repainted my Testarossa in a lurid colour after seeing how fast @A_Higher_Place was with such a distasteful colour scheme hoping that would make me a few tenths quicker

It didn’t 😂

I suspect CSA strong will speed me up a bit but honestly I’m enjoying the challenge all assists off and ABS weak!
