Ran a 40.618. This could be my second Gold. The first was at Daytona, too.
I think I saw my optimal at .563... I think it's possible. Thanks for sharing. I think I saw it. It is definitely fast on a controller but I am wondering if faster is possible, like 40:560 or even 40:550

I found one 1/1000th of a second. I might be done with a 40.573.
Any improvement recommendations on my hot lap setup?

Annoyingly my optimal is a 40.571 so I may be back for more 🤪
Life is too short, the Daytona trial while a free amount of credits isn’t teaching anything about how to drive in a useful way.
Same here. Except my optimal is very high 40.54 rather than 40.532. I never thought I'd spend hours searching for thousands, but once I got into the top 200 and realised my optimal was top 50, I kept going.I also dont enjoy driving in a circle that much.
But I do enjoy having contact with the front, with a theoretical that would easily get P1. And it is fun being able to compete with friends that on a normal track simply cant keep up.
And once you start getting inot the .55x and below, there actually is some skill starting to come into play. A different type of skill than a normal track would, but still...
I agree! There’s always something to be gained and learned from pushing one’s limits.Same here. Except my optimal is very high 40.54 rather than 40.532. I never thought I'd spend hours searching for thousands, but once I got into the top 200 and realised my optimal was top 50, I kept going.
It might teach me nothing about driving, other than acute precision with the wheel, but it scratches a competitive itch. Aside from now being in the top 50, I'm top of my friends board and I have not been in a very long time, certainly not since stupidly accepting friend requests from the likes of @Dan_Tes @Gomario JSP @djolliea @330_D and all the other very fast folk.
And the precision might sound trivial, but the smallest difference in line in turn 1 can make 0.015 seconds difference, bigger for turn 2; huge in this context. Even straightening up a millisecond too late out of turn 1 can turn a .916 sector 2 into a .923.
In the end we each do what we want. There's no wrong way to play the game. Fun is subjective.![]()
We come at this from 2 different perspectives, I want my time spent to help feed in to the core of the driving I do which is Sports mode dailies and GTWS. Things like the AM helps with general car control, acceleration, the importance of gear selection. These are very useful skills for 99.99% of the game. Moving the stick a micron or lowering wheel settings to unrealistic levels aren’t useful anywhere other than this specific challenge. It might teach me nothing about driving, other than acute precision with the wheel, but it scratches a competitive itch. That was why I was blasè about this oval TT. Yeah I get golds when I want to or they are interesting but I’m not competing with you guys both skill wise and also time wise has to be spread between various areas of the game.
Also I wouldn’t have @Dan_Tes on my friends list either
We are all fighting our virtual friends on one leaderboard or another, I never top mine for ranked races ever!! 🍻
Well if anything this TT is a reminder that time can be gained even in easy flat out corners, if we drive with enough concentration. So imo it is not a totally useless experience. Also wacky things like this TT is what makes Gran Turismo Gran Turismo and make it stand out among other sim racing games. We come at this from 2 different perspectives, I want my time spent to help feed in to the core of the driving I do which is Sports mode dailies and GTWS. I don’t disagree at all, but outside of grinding daily TT or pure TTs like this, finding fractions of seconds is probably not most people’s main problem….Well if anything this TT is a reminder that time can be gained even in easy flat out corners, if we drive with enough concentration. 40.593 here, optimal being a 40.571 that I'll never achieve of courseGuys, those on a controller only please. What is your fastest lap in Daytona? I would think it is harder of a controller to be so laser precise and accurate, also consistent.
Drats....P.S. for the foreseeable future I am not accepting any new friends requests:-)
Don't be fooled by aliens everywhere around here, regular earthlings struggle to get gold on this TT.It just amazes me how people can get gold seemingly so easily. I managed a 2:00 at Watkins Glen for bronze and that's still a good 6-6.5 seconds off gold. Can't get my head round how players can shave so many seconds off their lap times...
If you want to put in the effort then upload a video of your lap to YouTube. Alternatively share it to your personal Gran Turismo page but I don't know how that works exactly. It just amazes me how people can get gold seemingly so easily. Morning folks!,
off-topic
Been a few days since i was kind of active here, major busy days here and every free hour i'm putting in the house renovation after the water damage, can't have my wife and daughter living in a concreet jungle to long, living on a bare concreet floor and have bare concrete walls isn't funny at all 😂 but walls are done, and yesterday i spent 12 hours getting the new floor in...... body is wrecked, so are my hands..., So time was not on my side.
But this morning i did some Watkins laps again, with frustrating splits, with a fastest S2 of .280 but totally missed the forlast turn AGAIN.
Few laps later i had a less great first 2 sectors but a "descent" third one what did result in a PB though, and i think a secured top 100.
Very scruffy lap and if looking at my optimals a .3 should be possible but i just don't have the time these weeks to put the time in I need to progress, ( i'm not like the real fast guys that deliver top time on the first session...... i need tracktime and then porgress by learning the hard way 😂 )
But...into the .5's at least

This one was very close though.... 🙂😁🙃🧐😟😟
@half_sourly Thanks for mention me in the fast lane, but the other dudes you metioned are indeed in my friendslist too, including you 😂....so for me there were times felt lonely at the top untill i sended more friends requests...😂
No way i'm ever regaining first place again, but i love it, i'm always behind rediculouse Ed @Ed_Night .... @djolliea and @Dan_Tes ..
nomatter how hard i try...., Then there is @330_D who get's upducted like every 2 weeks.... and @AdxRE who always delivers..
Everybody got so fast in the game it isn't even funny anymore 😂
So mega job on topping that list!
And.... we can't forget the fact that we are dealing with the fastst players of this game on this forum, wheel and pad, and since you started this whole timetrial shennanigans with the board everybody wants a piece of the pie, this is all on you buddy 😂
Thanks again for making GT7 what it is![]()
It is up to you. The amount of listening and candid assessment of yourself is a key. Aliens aside, humans can be pretty fast and gold for them can be relatively easy. The path to fast and easy is anything but, however. Knowing where you need improvement is the beginning. Read, watch, implement, wash, repeat. Braking points, turn in points, acceleration points, hitting apexes, using all the track. It goes from "apex? what the heck is that?" to "well that wasn't very good, missed the apex by two feet and don't even talk about the rotation point and acceleration point". It goes from "I hit my brake mark and didn't stop in time" to "that was a really good exit, I need to adjust my braking point or I'll overshoot the apex on the next turn". Me? I'm still struggling to get better and likely will never be as good as I would like to be, but I no longer worry about the nasty Thursday morning surprise finding that my gold has turned silver. It just amazes me how people can get gold seemingly so easily. Sounds like a great initiative, I might try it.OK so whoever is already bored with 2J on Daytona and don't find it challenging enough and looking for something challenging...I have a challenge for you 😉
Sardegna TT Dirt track, Hyundai Genesis Gr. B Rally car. Tuning allowed, put turbo if you want, adjust suspension so car don't bounce like crazy, give it a go.

Gave me PTSD right there. I'm still sour that the aliens did some late night magic at the Le Mans Gr. 1 a few months ago.…, but I no longer worry about the nasty Thursday morning surprise finding that my gold has turned silver.
Was starting to suffer from time trial withdrawal so I went back to the Vantage.

Well done! I got to .549 yesterday with an optimal.544 (.227, .917, .400). But I'm giving it a rest for now in favour of Watkins Glen. I'd done only one session there so thought I'd make an effort. Depending on what we get on Thursday, I might go back to Daytona and grind for those last few thousands...
Thank you! And you've been making a lot of progress as well, it's been impressive to watch 👏I am learning a lot from you! You were so helpful to me when I was struggling at Spa CE.
When I saw you drive and realized you use a controller, I could not believe it is possible. But…clearly it is if you are doing it, so I just keep being inspired and just want to learn to be as smooth, as fast and tactical.
And I am happy you are among my friends on PSN!
