Morning folks,

Willow_Springs_International_Raceway.png

What better to wake up and have the beautiful Willow layout with that overly pretty sunlight and those air balloons!....
come on PD...., that track is so much more pretty in other settings!, but ok...

Started with the Renault, planted..... descently fast, easy on the throttle lay offs in therms of speedloss and rotation, very easy to drive, most difficult part with the Renault is the Balcony for me, easy through Monroe.
went for ABS normal, and the thing is VERY stable under braking.

Ended up with a .5 on the first real runs, not to bad but i can't imagine finding 3 or 4 tenths with this ??

Then switched to what seems to be the meta,

Turbo sounds... yes!, love it, sound great that little 4C
Takes a whole different approach compared to the Renault, but is a little more agile but a little more dangerous, but rewarding if you trust the downforce and a fair bit quicker than the Renault too!
Very strong on the uphill part of Balcony , but for me very hard to nail the 3th to 4th transition before monroe, 2 wheels on the sand seems to unsettle the car more than with the Renault but you have to switch gears and exit in 4th....

Needs some work!, but definately time to find with it!

No racing now..... we have work to do 😂

Have a good day

Ok guys, something is going on here at Lake Louise... I think there may be a "glitch" happening!

I've been struggling with this one today. Putting in more than 60 laps this morning, and about another 30 this evening.

If I was lucky I'd be pushing high 1:02s, but mostly everything was in the mid 1:03s.

I was losing my mind! Looking here at the times (I know we're pretty quick here, but I'm usually somewhere in the pack) everyone was making good progress, and then looking at replays I'm watching people enter the final turn on the limiter, and exit the final turn at close to 80mph while my car is bogging, barely able to top out fourth, and scratch out 70mph on exit if I'm lucky.

The Corolla I've been using was bought on release day and only ever had suspension and wheels put on it, but I thought what the hell, let me try another one. What can it hurt?

So I went and bought a bone stock GR, put some ice tires on it, and off I went.

IMG_4358.jpeg

TWO laps in beat my PB, TEN laps in I'm in the 1:01s, less than 20 and I landed at a 1:01.869. Average laps fell by over a second even with huge imperfections.

The stock Corolla doesn't bog, is better on the brakes, turns in more eagerly and is just all around better to drive. I have no idea what's going on here, but I went back and tried the "old" Corolla and sure enough, I can't match the pace of the new one.

Oil is good, and the only thing unique about it is the suspension and wheels.

I don't know what's up, but if you're like me and were struggling with this one, go buy a new one and give it a shot. Modified ones may be funky when they're "balanced" for the TT.

Now I'm finally running with the big dogs again, and only have myself to blame my times! I have invalidated numerous .4s and .5s and theres more in me... but for now, I'm tired, and I'm going to bed.

Now, everyone go buy stock Corollas... and happy lapping!

EDIT: I forgot about rentals, haha. Save your money and just rent one!

More frustrating than fun at Lake Louise. I cannot for the life of me replicate the final turn of my fastest lap.

Considering switching to controller for this one. My Dualsense died a while back, so I think I'm going to resort to the DS4. Will have a go a little later.

Happy Hunting Folks...

First laps at Willow. I went with the meta since it's also one of my favourite gr4 togheter with Lambo.

Stupid me I haven't taken a picture (I hope I have at least saved the lap), but if the flu is not foggying my mind to much I think my best is in the high 1.19.3x with optimal not yet in the gold area.

My feeling is that my gold fades away particullary in turn 5

I think I'm too slow in terms of min speed + I get a too early apex there. Was able to improve the latter one in couple of laps, but it was no rewarding at all, because the min speed dropped more.

Need to look closer at some of your replays

Excellent times guys!
That's why there's me exerting a stimulus function to the pixels in the bottom half of your TV...

Btw, is you lap available to use as a ghost?

Just did a stint of 53 laps at Lake Louise. With a grand total of …drumroll… 3 valid laps. I'm ready to give up.

Still in silver.

But I can literally smell the gold.

Just have to put it together for once.

I have shared my best lap with the tags gtp as well as gtptt. If any of you could be so kind and take a look and give me some feedback on it I would be very thankful.
I have checked your lap and you are very very near. It's very good lap you only need to polish a bit and you are in gold. So this is what you can do. You are turning in a bit too late and when you do that you need to give more steering input in order not to slide away way too much. In that moment when you rotate car just a bit too much , you are losing some precious speed. Here is your vs my screen grab, and as you can see, you are hugging apex a bit more than needed, while my car is pointing a bit more towards next turn and with that carrying more speed.

I have posted a bit more detailed "how to" do it on Facebook group Gran Turismo. Can you check videos there so I don't need to re-do all that.

And lastly, last corner, tricky one, you are before bollards, but if you can place car between bollards and snow barrier, you will faster last turn. However that is very difficult, but still, try.
Good luck, you got this champ.

Thank you very much! I will keep trying. Thankfully still some time go.

Interesting. My prior, near gold time, was in a rental. Last night I tried my own car and couldn’t get anywhere close to that time. As you, the last turn was horrendous with the car bogging down.

Might have to have a go with a stock rental again.

Sorry, I forgot to save it.

@LSFDRX , interesting. 🤔

The last couple of nights when I would clock in some more laps at Lake Louise TT, I couldn't buy a lap in the 1:01s (valid or invalid), even though I was living there earlier this week (easy valids). I just figured I had been tired since both nights I was unwinding after coming home from work.

Maybe I'll try my own car too.

EDIT: Clocked in over 30 miles this morning, and nevermind....I am just slower after a day in the office. 😝

I tried some more laps in the frozen hell. Swapped between my car and a rental. I’m finding the rental generally faster, but I’m still nowhere near where I need to be. Still losing all my time in that last corner. I’m a second off gold today in my car and half second off gold in the rental.

Seeing that my current best time has fallen even further to +3.24% now, so the WR improved overnight. I’m just done with this one. Silver it is.

This doesn’t work…

…or does it?

IMG_9898.jpeg

Placebo or not it got me to go again which didn’t hurt. Was trying not to turn or countersteer too much this time. Turn one I tried to focus on the apex rather than the ghost and a proper yeet for the final turn!

As much as I enjoy driving in the snow, I really, really(!) dislike time trials in that setting. So I'm not doing the Yaris one!

But the Willow Springs one is a treat. Went all meta and used the 4C. Lovely little car that really sticks to the track. Apx. 6 tenths clear of gold at this time, so it should be safe. Lost at least a couple of tenths on the last corner, but this ended up being my best lap.

So what was the advice about never giving up? I’m glad I took that advice and I went at Lake Louise again. Finally got gold and hopefully this one will stick.

I also contend, having tried with a personal car and a rental car that the rental cars are indeed faster. I’m easily .3 to .4 of a second consistently faster with the rental than I am with the personal car. Yes I can drive the personal car as fast as the rental but it just doesn’t feel as planted or secure. The rental is easier to get around the corners.

It’s also real interesting seeing how ones ghost compares to the world‘s record fastest ghost. Or at least the fastest ghost there is… #2 I think.
