From 1:18:137 down to 1:18:126. From a S2 split 1 tenth slower than my previous best. šŸ˜“

Wait? Have you switched to rental??
My previous laps were rental too, few pages back I already mentioned my garagecar was feeling different, but......
I also did some laps in my own car this morning and topped out at .164 so it's not always bad 🤣🤣

If this sticks for a top 100 ill leave it.... otherwise ill go again 🤣

Hold up! You guys are onto something here with rental being faster. It's definitely not placebo. I've spent countless laps here in my garage car and it does not compare.

30km with a rental, a few invalidated laps, a restart and then 2 laps later:

Something would have been seriously wrong if you really where slower than me. I already wondered about some not so great times on my leaderboard.

So rental is the way to go. My optimals will put me in provisional Top 100 but that sector 2 is always a gamble!

I guess just some combos click for some and not for others. I love getting sideways in the dirt and snow. But it's really strange here where the rental is night and day compared to the garage car.

Rentals will always have fresh new oil and no chassis wear...
In theory, but if you are driving a brand new car off the lot and it’s slower than the rental still, then something is wrong.

For me always check the oil before a session. Chassis, I don’t tend to worry door that too much unless I know the car has had a hard life. Most have not, unless it’s the auto grind Honda Best. 🤣

That was painful… not feeling safe yet though, so will try and dip under 62 seconds before moving to Willow Springs

EDIT: had another run, and there’s definitely a 61.9 in the tank, but no motivation right now. Had a cheeky run at Willow Springs just to keep my sanity

I was lapping tons of 1:01.4s, had a bunch of invalidated .3s and .2s, and a single .1. Just could not connect anything better than a .4 though. Told myself I would hang it up once I landed a .2 since I was able to churn out so many with just a slight nick of the wall and then I hit this absolute heater. Good enough for #2 in the USA currently. Been a minute since I’ve had a top 100 time, feels good to be back, especially on a surface I’ve only just scraped by for gold in the past.

Hi,

Further to the Rental vs Garage car discussion. Here goes...

The game calculates a degradation in performance. It must do this to prompt a warning about replacing or improving items on the car... To name 3... Oil. Engine and Chassis. I very much doubt that it - the game - differentiates between 1,000 miles around Route X and 1,000 miles around Monza. I am sure you would see a difference in real life. I am not sure about the physics in game though.

If the game calculates a drop in performance of, for example, 1% every thousand miles. There must, surely be, a reflection of this in the lap times recorded. A 5% drop in HP around Route X or Monza would be shown in the lap time and top speed.

For each mile you drive in your garage car, there must be a drop in performance no matter how small as the "counter" in game is running toward the warning prompt stage.

While I have no scientific evidence for any of the above, it does make sense.... At least it does to me!!! 🤪

Best regards to all here.

Ian.

The game could still easily disregard the effect of this degradation during time trials same as it does with modifications through tuning parts. Not saying that it does this or that it doesn’t, just that it would be easy for the game engine to treat your car as stock. Easier in fact, I would think, than to selectively disable some input parameters (tuning parts) while enabling others (oil degradation)

This is a reasonable theory, but the problem is that the garage cars don't lose performance in straights, only in corners. This doesn't exclude the possibility that degradations carry over for suspension components etc., but not engine components. However, this is debunked by the fact that @Barareklam's (stock) garage car is as quick as his rental.

This leads me to believe that the bug occurs when having garage cars with non-stock wheels. This is because snow tyres change the diameter/width of the equipped rim, and if you have non-stock diameter/width rims, perhaps this causes the values in the game to bug out, causing the car to have much wider snow tire values than intended (while not giving this impression visually), causing the car to bog down in corners. This is just a theory of course, I can't actually prove this

Edit: It does appear as if it's the other way around, my garage car has skinner tires than the rental, at least visually (the values for actual tire width could still be the same). Aftermarket wheels, regardless of width, causes this phenomena. Stock wheels on the garage car have the same width as the wheels on the rental.

Hello everyone, those who enjoy TT in the snow, and also those who scratch their heads over the countless invalidated laps. It happens to the best too.

After reading about rental car vs garage car, I would like to add something from my experience. I started this TT with a rented car, I did a few laps, and in this section I even thought it would be difficult to get gold. The 304hp Corolla is not very powerful for zigzagging, it loses speed. Next session, with a garage car with more than 400hp, it was assumed to have 304hp and 1445kg, after verifying in videos that taking the first curve on the outside and not on the inside wall, saved time, arriving at T1 first and faster. Then it would be necessary to fine-tune the S and the last curve, control the steering to be able to get out at least +120km/h... After the gold and in the 1:01 group, next section I bought a Corolla and I have already done +700km in several sections, and only yesterday I checked in the garage that the oil was worn out, however I never noticed any drop in speed. 175km or 76 at the finish line and 208km at the end of the straight. I assume that the 304hp are always the same regardless of the kilometers covered. The same goes for the suspension, and if we notice imperfections in the curves, it is all related to the steering. Excessive countersteering is not welcome.

Greetings to all who turned to gold, especially Chris, with a cannon time on par with the best.
The problem with all this is that when Camit makes a new section, he sends 100 or 200 to silver.

Camit posted a new record, just an amazing time. I am booted to silver but all-in-all content with the work I’ve put in and the things I’ve learned along the way 😊

We had Tsukuba some time ago where people with own cars with bigger rims struggled to turn in....
.I didn't read it, I didn't know. But I'm still going to put 19 or larger wheels (it will assume dirt/snow wheels) on the Corolla, wide body, spoilers, ruin all the suspension parameters, lower the gearbox to 190km/h and check the behavior on the track.

Try again and you can get gold. Camit is in limit ))

Happy Easter to the whole time trial community...enjoy spending your Sunday trying to earn gold and just enjoying doing laps in the snow!! Take care. I promise I'll be back soon to join in on the fun. Great times guys, I've read all the posts in the most recent pages. Pages 1315-1317...

Camit must be a new alien, never heard of him before.

Camit is one of the fastest in GT rally, he was already in Gran Turismo Sport

New test today at Willow :
Rest assured, my friend @NicoGmbh 🤣🤣, I didn't improve on my time of 1:17:488. I was running around 1:17:6xx.
But I found a new, very interesting ghost to follow : the one from @Metalgear9493 (holl01)... I was able to improve on my first sector, but the corner doesn't forgive the slightest mistake.
And it must be said that today I had trouble negotiating it well. That's why I couldn't do better than 58:9xx (S1 and S2) compared to 58:8xx yesterday. I'm going on vacation for a few days, but I'll be back... 🤣🤣🤣

Happy Easter Monday
Good drive and enjoy

I see the WR at Lake Louise has fallen further. That now puts my gold at a somewhat more risky 2.91%.

I had another session to try to improve but the only result was much swearing. Don’t know what it is today, desperation perhaps, but I’m just drifting into the banks on every lap. It seams that only 1 out of 10 laps in not invalidated.

I need a beer. šŸŗ

Don't give up hope mate, I'm sure your gold medal will be secure, but if you're not 100% certain, then run more laps until you clock in a time that you feel that is safe for sure, and enjoy your beer. Happy Easter 2025! And maybe some rest will help clear your mind and maybe you'll do better than you did today. I had those days back then so you are not alone in this situation.
