^Not really IMO, it understeers in slow corners on its own, 3rd would make it even worse, car is not so hard to control, you can use 2nd in some corners easily, sometimes even 1st around apex's of slow corners and then you may just short shift if you want to.

I have to agree. 3rd-to-2nd midway through Surtees at Brands, for example, helps tuck the nose towards the apex.
Similarly for the last corner at Interlagos, and the two tight right-handers - as said, you can always short-shift as you feel the turbo come on.

I was doing really great at suzuka last night, until i bungled it at the turn before the hairpin on lap 9. The AI caught up with me and i rage quit so hard.

Try 3rd while keeping the boost up.

Brands Hatch was tough for me using the car's standard settings. I tweaked them a bit with no success. But then I found this thread and made a few more adjustments (thank you people) and handily won Brands Hatch on the first try! WOO! I only changed 5 settings and they make a huge difference:

Tires: install racing soft front and rear
Springs (natural frequency): increase front and rear by only 5 points
Camber: increase FRONT ONLY to 3.2 (don't touch rear)
Aero downforce: increase FRONT ONLY to 1075 (don't touch rear)
Gears: auto-set to 199 MPH

All other settings remain as stock. Also I have only tried these settings on Brands Hatch. I suspect only gears will need adjusting for other tracks. We will see. Hope this helps someone... enjoy!

Guys, seriously, no need for setup, just some track time with the car, if you can’t beat AI in those events it means you are like, I don’t know, 10secs off the pace? Give it some track time and you will start gaining time hand over fist, at this pace setup is just a distraction

You aren't wrong, but you wont be fast enough to compete in the lobbies with tuning enabled unless you are particularly talented.
You can correct the understeer some and flip the tranny. It does help

Whilst I agree time spent learning tracks and learning the car improves things, not everyone has the time available to do this.

Plus, some find it harder than others even just driving a car at this speed, myself included. For one thing it is a strain on reflexes which in my case are not what they once were lol.

I spent 2 hours driving Brands Hatch on standard settings with racing softs and got nowhere near the two front rabbit cars. Whereas I won all 3 races first time after changing settings. So, it's different for everyone but it helped a lot for me which is why I started this thread. As I thought it may help others.

In my opinion, if one person finds a benefit from this thread, then I consider it worthwhile. And there has been more than one person indicate that already.

This is not aimed specifically at anyone, however some of the responses have, honestly, read to me as "you must be slow/crap if you can't win this race".

Maybe that's correct (personally I usually sit in the top of middle based on my Dirt Rally community event rankings so I'm a long way from best driver but a long way from worst too) but it also feels like it goes against the idea of this thread which was intended to help people. But that's just my opinion.

I'm glad this thread helped @DGXR and hopefully others too, regardless.

Look, nobody in this thread suggested you're slow/crap/whatever. Everyone of us had this happen, no matter whether you're a rookie or a veteran alien, some cars/tracks just don't suit us, and we're way off the pace, and while it might be relative, for some it will be 0,5 for some 2,5 and for some 10 seconds.

What all of those have in common is that practice is the best way to bridge the gap, the bigger the gap the smaller is the importance of setup. Trust me, I've been there, chasing setup to make car easier to drive, making progress, all cool. You do more and more laps, you're getting faster and faster, and one day you come back to that setup that would give you nightmares, well guess what? You're on the pace straight away. Why?

Because each lap you learn, you get the feel for car, for the track, you refine your skills, and what might feel like setup gain, sure car might feel better, or at least you will think so, but in the end time comes from you. I'm pretty sure that if you went back to Brands Hatch, put on default setup, you would match your setup pace straight away.

Unless you're going for the final ~second I suggest staying away from setup. I'm glad you went through those races, but I'm pretty sure our advice will help you and other people in similar position.

Trust me, we've all been there.

I guess I've forgotten myself that the thread title is "tips" not tunes and I've got a bit hung up on that. Apologies if my last post was not my most constructive.

It remains that changing the top speed to 180 mph worked for me for whatever reason but that doesn't mean it will work for someone else.

Whatever tip works for you personally (meaning the royal you, not anyone specific) whether it's more practice, tuning, or even relaxing before you start because these races can psych you out a bit if you find them difficult, is fine with me.

I don't really have anything further constructive to add, so will leave it for others to contribute other than to say, have fun with the game :)

Sorry if I came across harsh. It was not my intention. I agree that for accomplishing the objective of winning that GT League events, tuning is a good way to do it.

Not at all. I think you're post was quite valid. As were all posts here. Same applies to @adb for avoidance of any doubt

Set TC to 2. Manual. No need to tune up. If needed, use ASM. If still can't beat it, use auto especially at Brands Hatch where the AI a bit more aggressive. Don't increase the level of car weight because it makes the car wild. FYI.

The Suzuka and Interlagos race are cake walks, Brand hatch is ********. Don't tell me im " off pace" when I set the fastest lap for every lap . The lead car starts 25% of a lap in and has massive boost . Even if you are faster you have to recuperate 10 seconds worth of time over the span of the race . I did finally win the race but you have to drive near-perfect laps to win.
The AI in Suzuka is actually brilliant though. The two rabbit cars are incredibly fast UNTIL the last two laps, you fall into a false sense of security as you get closer and finally pass them, only to realize the rest of the grid has now gotten insanely fast and is on your tail. I wouldn't mind if the AI was like that for the rest of the game. Have two chase cars for 95% of the race that you slowly work up to, and when you catch them, the rest of the AI go balls to the wall fast so you have to hold a lead against a crazy fast pack.

JUMP_ACE:"All you need to know on winning in this car is to always keep the car in 3rd or higher. Yes, for every turn, NO exeptions"

THIS.

Don't ever THINK about first and second. EVER.

I think it is a matter of driving style. For example, TRL_doodle, one of the fastest drivers in GTS (if not the best), uses second gear several times in the fastest lap so far in today's Nation Cup practice around Interlagos. Check it out.

I found myself gaining heaps of time when flooring it on the apex as by the time the turbo has spooled you‘re already out of the corner and ready to hit boost

Sorry for bumping this topic but i'm struggling with the race 1,2,3 and 6. The brands hatch I seem to always come in 3rd. I decreased the downforce ratios to increase acceleration.

Try my tune here and see if it helps you, and I think there is a few other Tunes on that thread as well.

Chris.

I feel you bro. Currently struggling with BH (but I should give a real go, not try it once a week). Have had a hard time at Suzuka too, especially with number 4 or 5 becoming much faster once I am in top 3).

Now on Brands Hacth I have to be more consistent, I easily do mistakes on the first laps and I am therefore too slow to pass everyone before the end of the race.

And thanks for bumping the thread, I will try CBH's tune to see if it helps me (while as said by others before, the main thing to work on is my driving, but if a tune can give me some placebo effect, I'll take it ;) )

I see that CBH laps in 1'08, I am only 6s off the pace, I would have thougt worse.

Usually unless you are on a track with very long straights you want increase downforce for more cornering speed, that can make a huge difference.
