Well I guess the joke is on me. I just called and EB sais it wont be here until Friday. :dunce:
Oh well I will be busy playing Red alert 2 and Yuris Revenge with my girlfriend tonight anyway since we just borrowed a 2nd computer. Still waiting for my hardcore PC to come once I get my income taxes back.

I have the PS2 version with a DFP, 900 degree support, Pro-sim all the way, as sim as you can make it.

In a word: incredible. As respectfully as I can say this, I just don't think that playing this game with a standard controller does it justice. In order to experience this game, it is almost an absolute must to use a wheel with 900 degree support.

I realize not everyone can do this. But IMHO, I don't think the (slightly) better graphics the xbox is capable of over the PS2 is worth not playing with a DFP.

In fact (dare I say this in these here parts?), IMHO, this game is much better than GT4. The only thing GT4 has on this game is the graphics, but TOCA's PS2 graphics aren't terribly shabby either. But the gameplay itself makes you forget all about it.

Again, YMMV if you use a controller I suppose, but with a wheel at 900 degrees, it's everything I wish GT4 was.

March 17th is the soonest I can get my hands on it:( I don't have a PS2 here at school. But whoever has it keep us up to date with your thoughts about the game

I'm kind of miffed at my local Gamestop. I called them before I left the office to make sure they got it, so I could swing by on my way home.

The guy tells me that they didn't get ANY copies. They didn't get any pre-orders for the game, so apparently the company decided that nobody wanted it.. so they shipped zero.

That's just stupid. Not everyone who wants a game is going to pre-order it, especially with a game like this that doesn't have a lot of hype or anything. I didn't pre-order it because I knew I could simply walk into the store and buy it. I didn't pre-order it because I didn't need to.

Gamestop is getting WAY too heavy into the whole pre-ordering thing.

I was meant to be going out to get it tonight with a stupid friend but now he's working. What a nerd! Now I have to wait till the weekend, not to mention that KFC isn't going to buy itself. I'm hungry and mum's gone to yoga. :( Someone make my dinner.

Got it!!!

The sounds are especially nice. Truck racing is niceee too! 3K rpm!

But at normal difficulty, it is real easy to overtake by late braking.

Thanks for telling us about the 900 degree support MikeK, sounds like its gonna be a blast!

I am going out first thing tomorrow, even if it means waiting for Gamestation to open.

Good game but I'm disappointed to see that DFP support is still very sluggish and unresponsive, it makes driving damn near impossible and I don't see it improved any bit over Toca 2s DFP support.

Can you tell us more about it? Did you drive the monster truck yet? How about the rally parts?

I will have to call again today to see if our EB store has it in yet. That would be sweet if it came in a day early.

You get an unlock at the beginning if you have a ToCa RD2 save on your memory card. I won't spoil it and say what the unlock is, but the game plays well and the cut scenes are well done. Carbon fibre doors, etc etc. awesome!

Thanks for not spoiling the surprise! I cant wait. :) I think I will unsubsribe from this thread so no one else spoils it for me. I will just check back in here after I get the game.

blayzzz

I humbly and respectfully disagree with you. I don't find the DFP support to be sluggish or unresponsive at all which is why I'm so excited about getting further into this game. Of course, I cannot speak for your experience, but in my experience, it's as realistic as can be. When set to pro-sim handling with multi-turn, 900 degree enabled, FF set to high, anyone who attempts to drive as if it's an arcade racer will have a difficult time with this at first--as they should.

I'm not suggesting that's what you are doing, far from it. I'm saying in my experience, it feels very much as if I'm driving/racing real cars and not an arcade racer which is what I was hoping for.

As an aside, one can adjust saturation and deadzones on the DFP within the game, so perhaps that will enable you to find the responsiveness you are looking for.

I have to agree with Mike on this one. I picked up the game last night from EBgames (preorder) and I got to delve into it for a good 2-3 hours before having to sleep for work.

I did the same thing right out of the box, turning on full FF and multiturn support as well as all the Pro handling physics and damage. I didn't monkey with the saturation and deadzones as the demo seemed to work just fine with the defaults. Finished setting all the buttons the way I liked them on my DFP rig and hopped right into world tour mode.
I started the profile on the normal setting but after just killing the first few races I restarted on the hard setting. Its made all the difference so far. I'm still getting acclimated with the physics but after a few laps it seemed I could do a decent job at hanging with the top 1-5 cars. I only had the chance to play with the uber-light GT1 cars that they give you the option to start with so most of my initial view is based on that.

One thing that doesn't stand out yet is the weight transfer and that may be soley because of the tiny light GT1 cars. Other than that however I think this is everything that GT4 could have been, don't get me wrong. I love GT4. But.. . A 21 car starting grid, damage modeling, and AI that you can actually pass on the inside or outside of a curve that will give you the line as opposed to knocking you into tomorrow. They are pretty aggressive depending on the situation, I noticed a good bit of blocking and I did have a few moments of having to hold steady through corners with a little bumping from the back at slow speeds but I may have slowed a little to fast, again early impressions after only a few hours of playing.
I did spend a few minutes with the first rally and it seemed much less responsive as far as the steering went and driving on gravel felt like glass :( But I really didn't give myself a chance to get used to it as I needed sleep.

I'm sure that someone will get a chance to go more indepth with a review but thats all I got for now. I'm counting the hours before I can go home and play more. :)
