I wounder how good gt5 driver times compare to the real ones listed below. Would love to do it myself, but I sold my wheel, so...and yeap the condition is to use STOCK car with stock tyres without any modifications + all timer trials should be performed in career mode + tyre greep is real!! + by default in GT5 a rolling start, so you got to stop before finish line and go!!! I see bugatti Veyron in the lead and cannot believe it already having played GT5 :)

PS - The Veyron super sport is not in GT5

Ok, I ran Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren stock with dual shock 3 and got 1:26.757, I bet you can shave out 10 sec with a wheel...

i was hugely looking forward to this sort of thing when i got gt5. and when i saw they got rid of the 400/1000m and top speed tests, i though i could use top gear test track to test each car in a controlled way.

not only do you have to get gold in the most annoying challenge ever just to unlock the track, but you are forced to have a rolling start.

really, how hard would it have been to have the track unlocked from the start, have standing starts, and some kind of lap times board, just like in the tv show...

I was very disappointed with this. Something isn't right here, I got 1.15.xxx in a slightly tuned RE Amemiya RX-7 (not the Super GT version). Surely this couldn't happen in real life, could it?

Well pal, actually rolling start is not an issue, cause you are not times before you cross the line, so you got to stop in front of the line and go!

Yeap they could have this track unlocked from the beginning on with all times available and also with exact camera angles that we see on TV, would be fun to compare!

I hope you didn't use soft racing tyres...

Just get to the starting line in practice mode to take the lap, thats what ive been doing :) . The thing is, is the track 100% correct in terms of dimensions? I dont know, and my friends think its way off. The cones mess it up big time.

of course its an issue, you're never going to get it in the exact same spot everytime, and once in a while you will accidentally go over the line and start the lap.

and thats not even the point, why should we have to roll up to the start and stop there? a simple option before the start would be fine

What he said. It really is so simple it baffles me why they did it the way they did.

Thats what I call as close to reality as it gets :D

1. You're using tyres that most likely had significantly more grip than what they used on the show
2. You don't have to deal with a slick/wet track, you are racing in perfect conditions
3. Your force feedback is nothing compared to what they experience
4. The G Forces involved are nothing at all compared to what they experience
5. The GT5 physics model isn't perfect
6. You gear change using shoulder buttons/a fake stick
7. You don't worry about slamming into the tyre wall at 140mph.

Anything else?

I use Comfort Medium tyres for my "Power Laps" on the game but the times still aren't entirely realistic. Recorded a 1:30.6 in a standard Focus RS when the actual time recorded by the Stig was 1:32.2 and that's using a controller too. I know it's not too much of a difference but lap times in game are generally quicker. Now if there was changeable weather...

But it's not realistic because you're sat on your sofa with a dual shock. You change gears by flicking a finger.

Stock cars, standing start=
Veyron 1'16.3
Enzo 1'18.7
Murcielago lp640 1'21.0...need to control it better.
stock tyres also.

What JBturbo said, especially the tire grips. I have track experience and the tire grades are nothing like real life. The Sport tire grades act like slicks and the whole racing class of tires have grip levels beyond anything they have at the track.

The people racing around on the racing soft tires would be dangerous on a real track.

When I heard about the TG track being in GT5, I assumed the Special Event would be a "Beat The Stig" game where you try to match or better Stig's time in an identically setup car. I also thought they would shape the replays around the standard camera points used on the show.
You can imagine how I felt when we got 40mph Samba buses and Elises on ice.
:ouch:

Probably the most important difference is `FEAR` there`s no way i`d go into a bend like you can on gt5, my bottle would go, i`d be too scared. So people going faster than the stig is easy on the game.:)

Man, I consider Top Gear special event in GT5 as the most fun staff, really had a lot of fun doing it, especially last one with vw trucks.👍👍👍

Yeah because the completely unrealistic tire grips is such a small thing. People racing around on slicks in GT5(Sport/Hard or better) compared to sport tires in real life.

well veyron is standad model, so it might not be that precise!!! I mean you bit sport edition time with the stock one, which is pretty strange!

They all use the same physics engine, as i'm aware anyway. I'm not great by any stretch of the imagination, infact quite crap sometimes but the veyron I find you just need to break earlier and the understeer decreases. The murci, now that is a car that is solid to break in a straight line lol. I always use stock tyres too, sports hard.
