top gear Z06

It's hard to believe but the Corvette own the Viper.

The corvette got very big tires, it's Compaq & got a big engine. It'S pretty obvious it is fast.

yeah i knew the z06 was fast :D its freaky seeing something faster than a zonda and a f430 almost every day :P

i figured a mod woulda locked this by now...

I was surprised by this car as well. In the charts of the german car mag "AutoBild Sportscars", it reached the 7th place out of over 100 cars on the "Motorpark Oschersleben"-racetrack. Only the quickest semi-race tuner cars were able to get that high yet. The Z06 has my respect! 👍

the Interceptor

Lock this?
Heck, I've got pictures to contribute...

In honor of all the jive talking and hating I see against the Vette, I am proud to post this picture.

Both screencaps are directly from Top Gear.

The Z06 burns up the track!

And keeps up with the best!

Vette can't handle? Looks like the Vette haters will have to try something other than "bad handling" when hating.

Eat that!

But the Porsche is still faster... ...though considering that's the GT3RS, which has almost no amenities and comes on really sticky tires, that's no mean feat that the Z06 gets so close.

Though, as I remember, most testers don't complain about handling, per se, but the communication from the steering... despite that, I do give my props to the 'Vette... I still give long, lustful stares at C5 Z06s when they pass me on the street... and despite other people's gripes about the new headlights (kinda silly thing to complain about, actually), I think the new one is great.

EDIT: That Corvette thread about the roof? Wild! Good thing it's been addressed by GM already... they don't really need all that attention... :indiff:

If I remember the Ferrari review, they said it'd be quicker on the optional Pirellis than the standard Bridgestones - quicker than the outgoing 360 Challenge Stradale. Though that's just an aside.

The overriding thing from the TG review was that it's a staggeringly fast car on the track, but on the UK's roads it's appalling.

They arn't wide, flat and straight and the surface quality is shocking.

The roof thing is old and worn out to me (as a story since I've seen and heard of that already).
Might be a widespread problem that no one found until recently (doubt it).
Or it could be an isolated incident.
Has there been an official recall?

Track speed for the car is awesome. 👍 For the everyday user, I imagine it would bite. :ouch:
Famine's comments hit home for me since I live in Southeastern Louisiana.
Go throughout the states and it isn't hard to learn that LA. is one of the worst, if not the worst state in the US for road quality (long, long story there).

So yeah Famine, I feel the pain on this one.

None the less, I must say, the Vette seems to be one hell of a sports car.
20 minutes or so pass during the posting of this reply
I'm back... Watched the 360 vs RS and 430 vids. :boggled:
Very last thing they said was exactly what famine mentioned about the bridgestone tires. 👍

With that in mind, I wonder what tires are on the Z06? :)

Regardless of tire, the Vette has shown itself to be an amazing car, especially for the price. I'm quite proud of the performance (even if the review by topgear was harsh about anything other than performance). :indiff: :dopey:

I wonder what the backside of a Ferrari trunk panel sounds like (as JC didn't seem to want to fingerpunch the euro supercars).;)

Watching the Z06 vid now...
Man does he grill that Z06!
Names everything possible for what is wrong. :ouch:
But compares it to a 160,000 pound Ferrari. :odd:
Track performance like a 360cs but the 575 is the comparison? I wonder why he didn't bring up the 430 and cs for that part of the review.
Maybe he wouldn't lower a god to be compared with a mortal. ;)

I'm happy to see the fun he makes of the car while still atleast bending to admit the Z06 is amazing on a track.

btw, don't get the wrong idea about my replies... JC doesn't seem to have any bias to American cars since he is one of the lucky 28. ;)

What are the 360 and 430 made from?
(*I don't recall that if it was in the vids)

Any way, for "price to speed" ratio I am amazed how well the Z06 did.
It may be better than the standard Evo 8 GSR's price to speed ratio (not sure). (especially since the FQ400 is way more expensive than the standard GSR)

Carbon fibre.

The FQ-400 was about £45,000, last I checked. Though I may be wrong.

I'm not sure about the 360, but the 430's body is carbon fibre and allunimium. The Z06, even at UK prices is fantastic performance for the price. It's just a question of here the steering wheel is on the wrong side, surely they can convert it in one of thier factories to rhd and secondly although I can't comment from experience, it doesn't seem to happy on our roads, so for road use the normal C6 would be a better option. But again you still have the wheel on the wrong side of the car and the standard C6 isn't as good a bang for your buck deal as the Z06 over here, as little as £5k seperates a high spec C6 cabriolet to the C6 Z06. Adn you can get car's that are 10k less than the C6 or more that will go as fast or faster, and are rhd. I don't think there's much as fast as the Z06 on a track for £60k though.

meh i'm pretty sure the z06 is alot faster than the viper... since it was only a bit faster than the stock c6.

The standard C6 cabriolet is almost as quick as an SRT-10 on a track, the Z06 is a lot faster than the standard C6 and all it's lap times are a hell of a lot faster than both the C6 and SRT-10, so I'd say it is a hell of a lot faster than the SRT-10. Me, I wouldn't want either, the SRT-10 is probably even worse on our roads and I wouldn't consider buying a lhd car here.

there is also the fact that the viper is over 100kgs heavy but it has some kind of wow factor and it is rarer than a corvette(where i live ive seen around 4 corvettes but only 1 viper) and imp the viper sounds better too :) and it costs 5k to convert a viper to rhd

You've seen 4 Covettes in Scotland? I don't even think there's 4 Corvette's in Manchester period , I've seen 5 Vipers in my life, one at a motorshow, three were in showrooms and on on the street. Actually, tihnking about it, yeah there are more Vette's than Vipers, I don't see many ette's on the road but it's more than 1 ever and I've seen more than 3 in showrooms.

theres a place in coatbridge that imports them  we also have loads of F150's and about 3 SRT-10 rams(which sound awesome)

oh and found this one the z06 and the viper :P

“Jumping immediately into the Corvette, the difference is huge. Turn the wheel and it sort of mushes over in the direction you want it to. This is by no means SUV/minivan mushy, but compared to the Viper it feels like a wet paper bag. Then at the very limit, when oversteer is getting too much, the stability control kicks in. One tester didn’t find it intrusive, but the other driver did. The Vette’s speed of 45.6 mph is still, as it always has been, below the mighty Viper”

“On the skidpad the Viper rules again, scoring the first 1.00-g laps we’ve recorded. The Corvette’s 0.97 g isn’t bad.”

1.2mph advantaged through the slalom.

What are the sources for that, because literllay every review I've read rates the Vette higher than the Viper in the UK.

That's probably the normal C6 or the previous generation Z06.
I seriously doubt the C6 vette would pull the kind of work you are talking about and still be able to match the GT3RS and 360cs with less ability to run than a SRT-10.

Yeah, I'm sure of that... The Z06 blows the Viper out of the water.
Of course, it would be nice to see some Top Gear lap times from the SRT10 to get an idea of how fast the Viper really is.

Can anyone come up with something?
Maybe someone saw the top gear comparison of the SRT10 and the Z06?
