Toyota 'GR Supra Racing Concept' is coming to GT Sport

Why are people complaining about this concept car? There's aleady a concept car being used for Gr.3. Does it make sense to have another Toyota Gr.3 car?

I'll find out for myself, soon enough. However, I know I complain and whine in the appropriate thread as well. Thing is, this is great! The Mk IV Supra is in. The Mk V Supra is in a game, where noone else, no other players in other games, can drive it. We will all be the first to get in and "drive", even before journalists.

Past games, we got different types of 86s, forget the Skylines and MX-5s. Let the Supra shine, people.

When this comes to GT Sport, I guarantee you it'll be in Group X when I agree that it deserves to be in Group 3, depending on how much power it's making. Still, it's cool GT Sport is giving us an exclusive taste of the car.

I would hate if they throw this into Gr.X!
Really, most of the Group X cars deserve better. The only cars that make sense for Group X to me are the Tomahawk GTS-R, Tomahawk X (The Tomahawk S could fit in N1000), the kart, the Chaparral 2X and the F1500T-A (Unless they add more formula cars). This Supra concept deserves to go into Group 3 alongside the FT-1 VGT.

I thought it was coming in march, guess this means they're adding 13 cars this month?

I'm not in love with it, and that livery isn't helping it at all. But at least it's a built car and not a pure fantasy VGT. But if it ends up in Gr.X my interest level is almost zero.

Na... no... I don't like it. Of course, the FT-1 looks great - but the production form of the new Supra is watered down too much from it. It looks like an inflated version of the original concept.

Although the Gr.X is a big mess in GT (honestly, the formula cars or classic race cars need an own class - really), I have to say all the VGT cars or other concepts with no simulation value should be thrown in there. Cars like the S-FR racing concept simply ruin every N300 / N400 lobby because they are irrationally fast and every n00b takes that car unless the host reminds (or kicks them) them of not using that thing.

Obviously it looks too rounded because of the wide bodykit Toyota has added to it. I reckon they could've done more to make the FT-1 Supra more "Supra-ish", but it's been 16 years since the A80 Supra so who knows what evolutionary designs it might've taken during that time. Remember the massive difference between the R34 & R35 GT-Rs? Some could argue about the radical redesign that had. But then again, at least Nissan didn't tie the Skyline name to the R35.

It's interesting to see the old 2000GT have a lot of influence on the A80, 86GT and FT1. In theory, they should've just called this the 2000GT-S or something.

It freaking GTE car, there no way PD that stupid throw it in Group X. It have to be group 3 car since GTE car and GT3 car have mostly same power ratio.
If anything this Supra GTE should replace the FT-1 in Gr.3.

It's basically the real version of the car PD created for GT Sport. If BoP and balancing is an issue, use the FT-1 specs for the Supra, and just alter the engine note to whatever this new car is expected to sound like.

It says it's coming in April, so that would be the following car pack.

I do hope this is a GR3 car. It looks like it's ready for GTE competition and, for immersion reasons, I so dislike the FT1 VGT GR3 car.

Look at GrX and tell me there isn't already a bunch of cars in there that should be assigned to a different class.

Personally, GrX should have been for VGT's only. Everything else can be classified in the N classes.

Agee especially with the drift car and F1 car. I hope they add more drift car and f1. We could have different class to race in sport mode.

Toyota apparently no longer wants it's cars present in games where they can be modified.

I can't fathom why they would think this way. Toyota has a history of producing cars which are essentially a blank canvas for tuners, and still do today. The Toyota GT86, Lexus RC F and even the Lexus LC 500 are big in the car customisation scene, so why not let people experience what it would be like to modify a Toyota/Lexus virtually?

i'm amazed at how much it resembles the old supra. there were some renditions of the road going version and by god was that thing hideous, glad to see it is not the case and will look similar to it's race counterpart

Where is everyone getting the information that the GR is a GT3/GTE?

It’s a racing concept. Toyota didn’t say where it would fit y’all

There was a leak a week or so back with a magazine showing the road and racing concept and it says the race car is specced for GTE along with the engine details for the road going car.

I wouldn't take this over the FT-1 Gr.3. This thing looks way too fat. It's so tall for the wheel and tire size. Like they asked a kid to draw the FT-1 from memory.

I honestly think it doesn't look like a real race car. I know, I know. It's a concept. But this concept looks more "kiddy" than the GT86.

EDIT: I think I got it. If this concept is purely promotional, then they probably didn't put the full attack into designing this race car. They probably just got the road car and were asked to make it look like a race car. It seems to have that street car with a body kit slapped on look, as far as proportions go.

It's gotta be a GT4.

What's the deal with the three pedal arrangement - does that have something to do with motorsport? Trying not to get my hopes up for the prospect of a manual transmission, as I thought it was confirmed it would only feature a paddle shift transmission.

That's actually what I like most about it. Rarely does a car look so similar to the concept designs.

Motorsport sequential paddle shift gearboxes require the use of a clutch to get moving, once moving the clutch isn’t needed for shifts as there is an ignition cut/auto blip.

So the clutch is used during pit stops and standing starts :)

I hope for Le Mans. Or a gran turismo original circuit
I am with ya on the old school. I want the old school more than I want any real life tracks. If I want I can get those from other games. Le Mans as always been kind of meh for me in GT. Half of it is kind of boring. For real life locations there are others that would be higher on my list but I get the appeal. It would be nice to have triple the track list but maybe when gt7 or gts2 rolls around. Hehe how about Seattle?

Just my thoughts...

This particular model will likely be Gr.X given the actual car is just a concept, however they may add an actual Gr.3 in a future update, or they might re-brand the current FT-1 Gr.3 as a Supra Gr.3??

Some clarification about the Toyota license.

As PD and Toyota are both Japanese companies, they don't necessarily have to apply for a license contract to put Toyota in the game as that is all under US copyright law. Toyota could have simply granted PD the approval to put their cars in without a lot of paper work. Perhaps the Toyota problems in other racing games is due to change of opinions for Toyota USA and not the Japanese Toyota.

The GR Supra may as well be a timed exclusivity deal that other driving games have been doing in the past. See the Toyota 86 GT, Corvette C7, BMW M4, GT-R LMP1, as GT examples.
