TOYOYTA 88C-V Race Car (MINOLTA) '89

 looking forward to Duke's response
Hey, I'm just grateful he's pointing to the used car lists and offering information...

Thank you, I did know about the Black Beauties. I'm hoping that by the time they come around for the 3rd or 4th cycle, I'll be able to afford them. I tend to burn days and not make much money, and I don't really feel like credit pharming just to get the money.

There's nothing 'wrong' with it, it's just flawed.

It's skittish, and while yes it's fun to drive, I don't think you could describe it as 'nice', it's just a sledgehammer. If there was an online mode, I promise you, it would get left for dead by the more experienced players in the better rounded Le Mans/Group C cars.

It reminds me of the McLaren F1 road car. Haha.

Now tell me that will struggle for pace against good opponents. Now personally I prefare the Sauber C9 but be under no illusion, this is a fast car, and is no slower than the Sauber C9 and the R92CP.

Stevisiov90, God himself, the creator of the universe is driving that car. You could have given him a bus with a rocket strapped to it and he'd have lapped it just as quickly!!

The fact the person can do that on the outside view alone is astonishing, also it appears they're using a wheel. I don't have a wheel, so I don't know the differences in handling. Either way, only an elite driver can get the best out of that car, and it's not a car I'd reccomend to people who might not be so confident with their drivining skills. - We all know it's fast. We're under no illusions, it's a sledgehammer, like I said. :)

I will meet with you half way here, I do believe it is fast and doesn't require God himself to drive it fast, I can drive it fast, just as fast as I can drive the Sauber and I am no driving god, however I can understand how people find it difficult to drive, it is quite a twitchy car and slightly tail happy without driving aids.

Hey, come on!! There's a chance he doesn't know about the black cars... I mean come on!! They're secret, right!? :D

Yeah I suppose hypothetically there is a chance :D I'll also concede that they could be considered easter eggs and special because they only pop up once a year, and all at the same time...

I also wouldn't be surprised if those four secret black cars are amongst the most popular 2nd hand purchases amongst GTP's GT4 gamers ..

Yeah, Holl01 is amazing.

The thing I can't understand is how he uses so much curb and grass without wiping out. If I drive any car at any speed, if a tire touches so much as a blade of grass at Schwedenkreuz, I'm off the track, into the wall, back across the track sideways, and into the sand backwards at Aremberg. Somehow, he pulls it off. And nearly flat-out through Flugplatz, too. I have no idea how he carries that much speed through Hohenrain, either. I'd be pingponging between the walls if I tried that.

He's on R5 tyres... that might be about 60% of it. Also, whenever I touch grass, and later lose control, at the second i touch the grass I try to counter steer and solve it someway... Holl01 just keeps going as if nothing has happened.

Holl01 is not a role model, though. Whenever he does it, it works amazingly. Whenever you do it, well... read above.

Like I said, God is driving that car.

He knows that car in and out, he knows exactly what it's going to do, he has the throttle control down, he's mastered the car...

Now, if only I could find out what set up he was using... :D

Even if I knew his setup I doubt it would help me get anywhere close to his times, heh.

The Bentley's an LMGTP. Though Le Mans classes are just confusing.

The Bentley isn't an LMGTP because it has no road-legal homologation incarnation. Therefore it counts as a Le Mans Prototype.

Check www.mulsannescorner.com The Speed 8 is listed there as an LMGTP. Remember, to meet homologation there needs to be only ONE street-legal incarnation of the vehicle, and ONLY the officials (ACO) must see it. Just because you have not doesn't mean it does not exist.

Also, Hypnotoad, I guess we can reach an agreement on that account. Different strokes for different folks, right? As for the 905, if you shift NO LOWER than 3rd gear, you'll be golden. The shift lag is worst between 1st>2nd and 2nd>3rd gears, so if you eliminate those two unnecessary shifts, you've still got a rocket to 320 km/h AND an uberfast prototype. As for that, the 88C-V is better as a 6-speed because it has little to no lag between gears. Just an instantaneous blip and you're shifted.

Someone once claimed that all the prototypes (LMP, LMGTP, Group C, etc.) were identical to each other. I think it is safe to say that they are not. Each prototype has quite different characteristics from its brethren. The 787B is one of my favorites, as well, and there's not another that handles like it, IMHO.

As for your naming the 88C-V the "sledgehammer," I would only partially agree. That nickname is more appropriate for the 1001bhp R92CP, if you ask me.

Indeed - it's listed everywhere as an LMGTP, as is the Audi R8C.

Aye, I bought the 905, and you know what?? I love it, yes it's a little laggy, but still competent, and not the type of Prototype you see people driving every day.

Also - yes, the powerful Nissan could also be described as a sledgehammer. :)

I think LMP2 translates into LMGTP, I'm not sure on the rules, but I don't think GTP needs homologation, that was Gt1. :\

The TS020 is a good example, the '98 model needed homologating, the '99 one didn't. (The '99 counts as a prototype)

The 1998 TS020 was a GT1, the 1999 one was an LMGTP... :D

I give up with Le Mans rules. LMP1 is LMP900, LMP2 is LMP675 but the Bentley's three races saw it competing against both LMP900 and LMP675 as an LMGTP, despite being practically an LMP1 car.

*wibbles*

Is there an echo in here? Haha.

That's exactly what I was saying!! :D

Also, yes, Le Mans rules are stupid, and they favour German teams too heavily. 'O noez!! Mazda can go longer without pitting zan us!!'

Im Glad my first post got 3 pages of replies and I was wondering , The guys who got 300+mph out of the minolta what setup do you guys use as mine does 250max.

Liam.

Liam.

The first post in this thread has enough information to get you started. The rest of the thread has a lot of good information, however it's a very long thread.

General principles:
Maximize your horsepower
Lower the car
Reduce downforce
Soften suspension
Adjust the gearing

Best of luck!
