Track Day Challenge

Rules:

1.) This challenge uses Gt mode as a event creator only.

2.) Main theme of this challenge is a celebration of famous real-life race event called Track Day. For this purpose we're also gonna disclose homage to a famous top roadster of all time - her majesty Honda S2000.

3.) Each driver should pick only one car from the following list (and stick with it):
  • Honda S2000 1999
  • Honda S2000 2001
*You can find both of them in Late 90's Used Car slot. I gaved you two choices because they're not too common and perfomance is almost indentical. Choice is yours, pick only one.

4.) Each week or two I'll pick a track on which you'll need to qualify (through ''race meeting'' mode) and eventually finish the race (through ''family cup'' mode for the same track).

5.) In race meeting mode you will need to aim for a hot lap; like in a real Track Day meetings drivers perform races with each other trying to set best lap times which in this case, we'll be using as a qualification time. You can run as many laps as you want and submit as many times as you wish and I'll count your best time. If you accidentaly forgot what was your lap once you exit to race menu (where AI grid is shown) just take a look at replay with your best time shown in upper right corner.
Setting your lap times on Free run mode is strictly forbidden.

6.) In a family cup mode you're officialy racing against sponsored opponents, here you need to submit your total time (which shows on first screen after the race). Aiming for that perfect total time is not reccomended, as a rough guide race for around 3-4 times; if you want to hunt your laps you have qualification for that.

7.) Submit all times (qualify time from race meeting mode and total time from family cup mode) through personal message to Matej.

8.) Points will be awarded like this:
Code:
Qualification points:
1st --- 3pts
2nd --- 2pts
3rd --- 1pts

Race points:
1st --- 10pts
2nd --- 8pts
3rd --- 6pts
4th --- 5pts
5th --- 4pts
6th --- 3pts
7th --- 2pts
8th --- 1pts

9.) There are tuning restrictions that you must follow, only parts listed in 'code' section are allowed:
Code:
Exhaust --- Sport or Semi-racing Mufflers
Brakes --- Racing Brakes
Engine --- Racing Chip
Drivetrain --- Close or Fully Customisable Transmission; Large Single Plate or Twin-Plate Clutch; Sport or Semi-Racing Flywheel; 1-Way or 1.5-Way or 2-Way Limited slip Differential
Suspension --- Sport or Semi-racing suspension
Tyres --- Sport Medium Tyres (S2)
Other --- Rigidity Refresher
GT Auto --- Washing or Oiling

*[I]Parts not listed here are strictly forbidden.[/I]

10.) TCS or ASM are allowed but usage of B-Spec mode isn't.

11.) If the driver doesn't submit his time he'll receive DNF for current track.

12.) You should keep two wheels on the track all the time (rumble strips are part of the track) and avoid collision with AI cars or walls as much as possible. In qualification mode, if you perform one of the ditto actions try not to count that lap.

13.) Wall-riding and any other cheat driving methods are forbidden.

14.) During qualification try to use pit as entry/exit method to keep realistic situation.

*In a race meeting mode you start from a pit and you can also finish lap-hunting by entering the same pit (instead of pause/exit method).

15.) 24 hours before deadline I'll post little reminder as well as list of all drivers with demonstrated submissions.

I guess I will give this a whirl for a week. I do have a few other things going even a league where I'm the only competitor.

Thanks for the invite !

I will give it a spin with the Honda S2000 1999 Model :)
I will not bother with ASM/TCS and will not fit any sort of LSD device as I have no idea on how to tune them properly :dunce:

Catch y'all later ( literally :sly: ).

...and will not fit any sort of LSD device as I have no idea on how to tune them properly :dunce:

You're spared that necessity, LSD isn't on the approved parts list anyway! ;)
Catch you (and hopefully pass you too! :P) on track!! 👍

Smallhorses, BH-21, Viperin have been signed in!! Thank you for your entries. :)

You're spared that necessity, LSD isn't on the approved parts list anyway!

LSD IS allowed. Scroll 'code' to the right, you'll see 1-way, 1.5way and 2-way LSD being available (trying to hide parts - what a bad boy I am :sly:)

You don't have to say what car have you picked as both of them are totally identical. Just don't pick new version or even worse, Type-v version.

Also, it looks like we have managed to collect enough participants, therefore new official deadline has been set up. (back to the second post, where GVE instructions are located)

Ooops. :guilty:
My mistake, however, you can't adjust any settings on the preset 1-way, 1.5-way, and 2-way diffs anyway, only the full-custom LSD, so it doesn't make too much difference 'cos we're not allowed to use that!
There's them that're faster with LSD, and them that's not. I have sensitive, curly toes so that's my throttle-control and the StooK isn't so overly powerful that it's uncontrollable without assistance, and in my humble opinion, more of a giggle without. :D

(Actually, that's a lie. Anyone who attended UKGTP5 or 7, or SFGTP1 - 6 will attest to the fact that I have pretty much square feet and I drive in socks.
It's only the fact that my toes aren't webbed that prevents me being confused with a Platypus. :()

Unfortunately yes, in GT4 you can't adjust 1, 1.5 or 2 way differentials (as in real life you can) but as far as I know there is no such thing as Fully Customizable LSD in real life (I hope I'm not wrong :ouch:). Since this challenge focuses on realism I decided to stick with ditto LSD types, I hope this will be ok.

There are differences between 1, 1.5 and 2-way differentials in GT4, small indeed but for S2000 good enough.

Important:

Honda S2000 (both versions) does not supply Super - Close Trans, so this has been changed (Fully customisable now available).

Also, I edited some name issues considering chip (Racing chip now) and cheapest clutch (Large Single clutch now).

Finally, rule number 12 has been edited ('rumble strips are part of the track' part added).

Hiya Matej:
Very interesting & well thought out comp! 👍 Thanx for the invitation but I'm running several series with BH-21 right now on Racing Tyres. Just getting the hang of them again after running "N" & "S" tyres for a couple of months in pursuit of 200 point races. I'm going to stick with the Racing Tyre comps for a bit but please keep me in mind for any future races you may run. Many THANX...O.G.

Sounds good, but I'm right in between exams and still have to do most of the JGTC. Unfortunate.
Good luck with your tests, happy passing!! (I apologize for late response)

No problem, remember that everyone can join and retreat whenever they want, hopefully this season will last long enough to give future participants more chances to collect some points. Good luck!! :)

You've been signed in Thc118, good luck!!

Also, I'll declare results as soon as I finish with my college work; since that can take a whole day count on interval between 6:00 pm and 11.00 pm (GMT=+1).

This interval will probably work for further weeks.

G'Day all,

Have not done the official racing yet but enjoying the lead up work which involves working with the Car I had in my Garage as well as looking for and buying a "new" second hand to use for racing.
The '99 S2000 I already had was heavily modified, for some reason which escapes me, but I thought I would use it as a Mule just to ease into things.
I stripped off all tuneups and returned it to stock ( which is how I run all these sort of comps, start at stock as a base level then add things as required).
The only problem was my Car had been through all the weight reduction mods, so I thought, just for interest and as a bit of research, to add the required weight as ballast ( 149 kg in total ) and see if there was any difference in performance and handling compared to the unmodified stock, second hand Car.
May be a bit of useful info for other Cars that I may wish to return to original condition 💡
Also had fun waiting for a Car to turn up in the second hand yard by redoing some Licence tests, lowering some Gold times :) and getting a bit of practice using MT.
Anyway I now have a Car and will get the Qualifying and Race done tomorrow.
Good luck all !

Later.

Edit : All Done , Times sent

Wow, getting my times submitted for JGTC Season 3 ate up a whole lotta time this week, so I'll only just be getting to this today! :guilty:
Looking forward to giving the Honda an good 9K RPM thrashing though! :mischievous:

When on 6th Feb are we allowed to submit times until?
Bear in mind 6th Feb ends 9hrs earlier for you Matej in Croatia, than it will for me on the west coast of the USA, and yet it will end 11hrs sooner than you for viperin down in Tasmania. (That's a 20hr difference between participants!!!)

Ok, then 5:00am -7.00am (GMT=+1) is my new interval to give all USA players those 8 clocks to submit their times. All players from Croatia to east should now have extra 8 hours to submit their times. If my calculation is right, by the time you sent those times in my country will be dawn (7.2.2012)

I apologize for my timezone ignorance.

No worries, it just means there's no disputes!
If, for example, I posted my time at 11PM my time on 6th Feb, it would appear to you as if I'd posted it at 8AM on the 7th, and to viperin like I'd posted it at 7PM on the 7th!!!
Thus you'd both think I'd missed the deadline by your own standards!

Now we've got a defined window which is 5-7Am (6th) for you, 4-6PM (6th) for where viperin is at, and 9-11PM (5th) for me!
Best get my skates on that's only 5 - 7 hrs away!!!

*Edit* Just as another side note, the "Race Meeting" option in PAL version is called "Track Meet" (other cars on track) in the NTSC version and what you'll have as "Free Run" in PAL is called "Practice" (no traffic hotlapping) in NTSC. 👍

*Edit 2* Times submitted. Happy with the setup I produced for the suspension/transmission and got some nice times in a '99 S2000.

Last edited:
Thanks for the tip Smallhorses, to sum everything up, PAL/NTSC players should use Race Meeting/Track Meet for qualification and submitting times from Free Run/Practice mode is forbidden.

Also, by the time I reach my deadline (5-7am), it will be 7th not 6th February in my country.
Next time I'll try to calculate clocks precisely to avoid any disorders. :)

Finally, Northmeade is the only driver who didn't submit anything so far. In future weeks I'll post reminder 24 hours before deadline as well as list of drivers without a submission.

times submitted late so no points for me. I'll be last anyway
By the time this message was written there were still 5 hours left for everybody so, I WILL count your times.

damn i wanted to enter also, but its now to late, need to play GT4 again

You can still enter if you want GTRufus, each participant can enter or retreat whenever he likes - there will be enough weeks for everyone to collect some points.
