I'm in 2 minds about this, the AT helps in giving you less to think about but I find after a long time on GT4 and GT5P with MT that the lack of engine braking really hinders you. I would say MT is quicker overall, but does take a degree of getting used to. Once you have nailed the racing line I would try using it, but for race setup cars (like the Zonda F) I would certainly recommend sticking to the paddle shifter. It is one more thing to think about but, like losing TCS and ABS, is ultimately quicker when mastered.

Just my 2 pence(cents) worth

Andy

I always say it is best to learn from scratch with all assists off and MT with automatic clutch off then you really don't know any different.
I haven't played with the assists on yet nor with AT.

I may give a lap of the nurburgring a go with all assists on and AT and see how much easyer it is.

I agree that if you are already used to manual trans & no assists, it is by far the best method. On any new racing game I try to turn off the assists as quickly as possible, after I've gotten the feel of it.

And unfortunately as I'm not getting more coordinated as I get older, the switch to always using manual transmission has been slow. :ouch:

Between preparing for the League Race #1 and the RT Time Trials, I've posted some decent "Best Laps" on Silverstone and Willow Springs.

Silverstone Fast Lap: 1:39.85
Lamborgini Mercielago - Works

Willow Springs Fast Lap: 1:14.82
Lamborgini Mercielago - Works

The key thing when driving a race though, is to close the gap between your fastest lap and your average Lap Time. I think my average lap time is about 1:16.50 :yuck:
NITROVIOUS wasn't kidding when he said Willow is a technical track. There are a couple of corners there that just give me fits!

Man do I wish I did learn from scratch with all of the assists off, after about two hours of racing with all assists off it really is almost like learning a new game, especially the braking! The first couple of laps at Road America learning how to race with everything off I was bouncing off walls, skidding across grass and taking 5 second penalties like a newbie with a Lamborghini :scared: But I did notice on the corners I mastered so far it really is much faster and I can already feel this will make me faster in the long run 👍

Yea i know what you mean its going to be a fun track, i love the long bend at the end of the course full throttle into 6Th enter corner down to fifth set the front end up and then full power feels so good blasting round there

Mind i haven't tried it in any other car other that my Audi R8.

Road America - LP640 Works - No Assists - AT - 1:56.03.....I am getting used to this new car and think I have another second to second and a half to be shaved yet.

Yea i was like that at first but after a bit it just starts to click and sink in and then you will find having it all off will benefit your times, i had a go with it all on and i found it unplayable  stupid traction control kicking in at all the wrong times, the stability control just made the car feel unrealistic at high speed, and some how it didn't seem to come in and out of the corners as fast maybe due to the ABS.

Playing it last night makes me glad i did learn from scratch

Trail braking is the best part about assists off driving. Set the brakes a few notches further back, play with the diff settings, and it's like you just wiped off all of the 'corner mastered' badges fresh.

Hi guys could no one post any more times for now as i am going to tidy up the mane page and time tables and also add more tracks.
Will be back with you asap.
Thanks guys.

new links to the times and the nurburgring full times still to come so get setting some fresh times people :)
Also please not the new rule changes on page one

My first spin on NFS: Shift since playing GT5 Time Trial demo for a week straight was 1:53:139 (No assists, Manual, Pro) @ Silverstone GP in a 10.00 Audi S4, which isn't very good. The reason for posting this was to say that these physics actually feel quite good after playing another game, GT5:TT at that, for awhile. I hope that Shift continues as a series, i.e. Shift 2, with some fixes. I think it is a nice first step in a good direction as far as NFS is concerned.

OK mate i will post it up there when i get a chance.

And i think but i am not sure that need for speed are now bringing out to different types of need for speed.

if you look back you have your normal need for speed that most people know today as in you have a map you can roam round on and police chases and street racing you can get involved in and these games so far are:
need for speed
nfs underground
nfs most wanted
nfs carbon
nfs undercover

but then they seem to be making a second range of need for speed which shows more of the professional side of racing as in competitions and track races with no police proper stuff i like to call it and they are nfs pro street and now nfs shift.

so i think there basically keeping all the need for speed fans happy as they can by making the 2 types of need for speed.
judging by the success of shift and pro street i dont think there likely to stop now i cant wait for the next one.

Yea, I've noticed that. I never really played NFS, except the drag races, until Pro-Street was released. Nitro looks horrid, and the talk that the next "street/world view/arcade" NFS will have bikes in it (and "better" stereo customization, neon everything, etc) makes me puke a little.

O GOD NO!!!! i haven't really heard anything about the new one i have been to sucked in by nfs shift and online battle, if any nfs in the future has a world map and police init i am not buying it you complete them in a few days and then they sit there gathering dust at least with the likes of shift there is an online following that will never get old.
