I am currently tuning a '95 Civic (EG) I can't decide between either the turbo or the na tuning. The turbo really lags in the lower rpms but it provides more power in the higher rpms than the na tuning. The na tuning doesn't give as much power but there is no lag what do you think I should use.

well you should do a review on a tuners garage car...consider this...what tracks is this car going to be running on...cars it will be running against...and how much wheelspin do you want

First of all, seeing as how this is a FWD car, you're probably better off not using the maximum power available as it'll slow you down badly through the corners with wheelspin and understeer.

But if you decide to do that, if you drive with auto gearing, take the car for a drive first to see what range of revs the motor operates on between shifts. Then, look at the power curves for NA vs. Turbo to determine which has a better band in that range of revs only. Its likely the turbo would be your best choice in that situation, as it sounds like you'd be reasonably well up the curve, past most of the lag, on the upshift.

If you drive manual, you can probably opt for the NA, as you can shift as desired to use the optimum range of the band.

Do take into account the torque curve as well though, in relation to wheelspin. With a turbo, you're likely to have a sudden peak of torque that could cause your front tires to unhook mid-corner. This is the single worst thing that can happen in a FWD car.

So basically, the best way to handle this is to follow the above line of logic, then just experiment.

<edit> or as dimplz said, review a car at one of the tuning garages and then request one to be built for you 👍

wow two more points for eg6 dude from me, good effort!

Green flag, i suggest you tune the car yourself, it's way more rewarding to make the car fit you rather then try to overdrive something made for a different style.

considering we're probably not talking about a huge amount of power in this eg, and considering that you haven't specified a tire for the car, i'd say go for turbo, gear it tightly to keep it in the top revs but also slide 1st and 2nd to the left as much as needed to keep power manageable on launch.

the lag may be usefull at getting you out of the hole if you balance the timing of the lag and the gearing as well as the suspensions timing (primarily the front shocks on rebound setting) so that you're already rolling when you hit your turbo band decreasing the weight shift and tire overload. Some work on 1st gear individually helps alot here as well, and don't forget camber either, more camber means less launching traction.

Ugh finally, if the camber is matched to the amount of nose lift you may be able to find sweet spot where more rubber hits the road as the nose lifts on takeoff.

hope that all helps, oh and have you played with left foot braking??

Tuning to your own style is a good idea, but I was simply giving a direction to start. I would reccomend not using a turbo in this application, but to keep the gearing tight anyhow. NA tune 1 often provides a excellent result and a great fun to drive feel.

If this is not a drag car and is a low horsepower application I wouldn't worry about camber angles too much. The camber used on the setup I provided above is drastic and still will pull the car out of corners at a very good rate.

Trail braking or Left foot braking are both good techniques for driving FFs. Good advice! :)
