Total Combined Ranking: __57/80______

Final Thoughts: A good set-up, Cornering went really easy, because there was no severe understeer or oversteer. It was mostly neutral with a slight tendency to oversteer which I like and never became annoying. A bit of understeer whilst braking but that was easy to take care off, just brake early. Usage of Tcs could’ve made this set-up better, the car would slip away while accelerating in low gears.

Final Thoughts: I liked this set-up a lot, Cornering was really easy, but there was some understeer at High speeds and some understeer while braking. I don’t like understeer at all. Acceleration was fantastic,, good grip, only in first it would slip away. And the car has been recognized as plenty fast enough with a supercharger. Awesome work

Final Thoughts: Awesome set-up, again. Cornering just was heaven, too easy, a tiny little bit of understeer at a very rare occasion. Good usage of Tcs made acceleration fantastic, it would only slip away in 1st gear. The gearing was awesome too, Very well found. Anyways the only thing that was a bit of annoying was the understeer at braking. But I take that for granted. Damn fine work.

Final Thoughts: Not too bad, I found this a fair set-up, a bit too stiff at and understeery to me at times. You can feel that when cornering, at low and high speeds. It wasn’t too nimble whilst braking too,, but it never killed me. Cornering was the strong point with this set-up when you go early in early out, it could’ve used some TCS though. The tyres slipped away way too easy.

Final Thoughts: I have to admit that I had to get used to this set-up in the beginning, Turning in was really easy, but when braking too late this set-up killed me. It was way too understeered while braking. Also the absence of TCS made it hard to corner in low gears at High Rpm’s. But after two or three laps it suddenly went very easy, Cornering was a breeze when braking early. Everything else was just good except for the massive understeer while braking, and I would’ve liked some TCS.

Oversteer is very strongly controlled, with a slight understeer aero balance. However this does rapidly transfer to a strong understeer suspension balance as speeds drop. It was quite difficult to rotate the car under brakes and car needed to be taken to set the car well for a corner, as little rotation could be developed once the car was committed to the corner.

A car with a lot of rear roll centre movement, the set-up plays very heavily on a very rigid front end and a highly mobile rear (in terms of roll). The result is a quite ragged car that has to be hauled into corners and relies on the load transfer to dictate what it will do. Quite easy to adjust on the brakes and throttle it will understeer quite badly if the front end is not sufficiently loaded up.

Brakes could be tidier (a bit more front bias) and the traction control is a heavy factor in keeping the rear in check on corner exit. Switch it off and you need to control the throttle a lot more out of a corner.

Overall its fast and fun to thrash around in a manner that really does suit the cars image.

A well thought out set-up, the car is well balanced both in and out of turns, however the overly tight diff does make it difficult to play with the throttle mod corner. Enter a corner a touch too hot and you have to back off quite substantially to stop it pushing wide.

Brakes are nice (a touch more front bias would be even better) and easily controllable even under hard braking from high speeds. Turning off the TCS show why its been used, traction in 1st and 2nd gear becomes a major issue, requiring far more use of part throttle.

Very good in a lot of areas, the turn-in and corner entry are well controlled and pleasantly neutral. Good overall grip and strong acceleration easily controlled with the throttle. However mid corner and exits the very restrictive diff cause the car to push wide if given slightly too much throttle. Personally I would rather use the throttle and have the control of a slightly less restrictive diff.

The brakes are unfortunately horrible, far too much rear bias has increased braking distances and confidence.

Smooth racing circuits suit a firmly set-up car, but this does take things a little too far. The extremely firm nature of the damping causes problems in a few areas. While initial turn-in is good, the car does scrabble for grip, its cornering limit feeling much lower than expected for the tyres (and in comparison to the other cars).

The stiff nature does suit the downforce and helps provide reassurance at speed, but it’s still to stiff. The car could take less damping and still feel good. The stiff rear causes major traction problems in 1st and 2nd gears, which is a shame as the ratios feel well selected.

On braking the car does feel OK from high speed due to the assistance of the high downforce, but as the speed drops and the downforce reduces the brakes rear bias snap the front in far too sharply. Also the rear bias has increased the overall braking distances, both of these problems could have been solved by a front biased set-up

For me a very mixed bag, now the first thing to say is that this is a very fast set-up. The initial turn in, particularly on the brakes, is excellent. You can almost dance the car into a corner and balance it right the way around. However the back end of the car never felt well planted to the track, the advantages gained in the corner are heavily offset by a very skittish car, particularly in high speed corners. During which the car felt barely in contact with the road.

Traction at the top end of the rev range in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears was an issue, partly caused by the stiffly damped rear not allowing the rear suspension to react quickly enough to the sudden onslaught of torque.

Overall it is however a car that can be driven very quickly indeed, but does require the utmost care when doing so.

Some very well thought out gear ratio with just a dab of traction control help the car really lay the power down well. Out of corners the traction is put down quickly and without fuss. Even disabling the TCS simply brings about a slight need to be more cautious with the right foot, but it’s still easily controlled.

The soft suspension set-up and high ride height do generate a lot of roll, which at times is an issue, occasionally overwhelming the fronts and generating excessive understeer.

The brake stability from high speeds is also an issue, if the car is off line of even slightly rolling as you brake the car becomes rapidly unstable.

However on a good lap, with care taken under braking and the body roll used effectively it is a quick and quite entertaining drive.

TUNER: Sucahyo

764bhp /// 763ft/lb

Turn-in = 4. This car absolutely will not turn if it’s doing anything like a high speed. Brake hard and early.

Mid-Corner Response = 5. Pushes wide as soon as the throttle’s open, and sometimes when it isn’t.

Corner exit = 6. Some exit oversteer can help you correct the mess the corner got into, but this isn’t a consolation.

Stability = 6. Once it decides it would like to spin, it will unless you’re very quick in getting it under control.

Grip = 6. Surprisingly, there isn’t a real grip problem. Provided you have a rolling start, anyway. Just be careful in 2nd.

High-speed controllability = 7. Not too bad, although high-speed braking can be risky.

Handling while braking = 5. The brakes seem to have almost no effect, and must be applied early and hard.

Acceleration = 8. Once the rear tyres are under control, the power just keeps on coming.

Total = 47/80

Final Comments
I really don’t like this car. The understeer is unbelievable when pushed into a corner, it’s very hard to remember that this car weighs only 1270kg. It feels like twice that. The brakes must be hit very early too, which kills off the use of the only good thing about this car – its straight-line speed. At Laguna Seca, a car that is only capable of going in a straight line does not hold much respect.

TUNER: Sprite

532bhp /// 552ft/lb

Turn-in = 8. Very nice. This car turns in sharply, but not so hard as to be dangerous.

Mid-Corner Response = 8. Holds the line fairly well, and in 2nd it’ll gift you with power oversteer.

Corner exit = 7. Sometimes it makes the driver pay for messing around with the throttle, but mostly good.

Stability = 7. No real problems. Bit of snap-back from severe oversteer, otherwise fine.

Grip = 8. Good. Full-throttle start-offs can’t be done, but three-quarter is fine. Open her up in the middle of a turn with no worries.

High-speed controllability = 7. Not too bad, although high-speed braking can be risky.

Handling while braking = 8. These brakes are easily powerful enough for this car, and don’t try to spin you either.

Acceleration = 7. Proves how fast this car was stock.

Total = 60/80

Final Comments
A nice setup. Surprising to see a Viper using the stock power rather than going for full muscle, but this setup shows just how effective the car can be with standard power. The downforce and lightweighting can be felt, as this car responds very quickly for what it is. These gears, although not far from the standard FC ratios, work well. It got around Laguna only a second and a half slower than a 760bhp example.

TUNER: opendriver19a

532bhp /// 552ft/lb

Turn-in = 8. Nice. This car turns in quickly, but never feels dangerous.

Mid-Corner Response = 7. Holds the line well, but hard to push to the inside – the traction control stops power oversteer.

Corner exit = 8. No problems, it behaves predictably but can run a little wide.

Stability = 8. Pretty good, with soft springs it never feels about to bite you.

Grip = 9. Pretty much unassailable due to the traction control.

High-speed controllability = 7. Not too bad, although it never reaches really high speeds.

Handling while braking = 7. The traction control takes some of the responsiveness away when hard on the brakes, but not too badly.

Acceleration = 6. This is a fast car stock, but the traction control steals a bit of 2nd-gear acceleration.

Total = 60/80

Final Comments
A good setup. Stock power is plenty here, it feels just right for this chassis setup (which, for being so soft, is surprisingly agile). It’s a very easy car to drive. This is partially the traction control, which means the car requires a lot less effort to get out of a slow corner without ripping up the rear tyres. The downforce, too, holds the rear end in line and makes the car feel very well-planted on the track.
Interestingly, despite the setups being so different, this car runs almost exactly the same times as Sprite’s.

TUNER: zefff

590bhp /// 600ft/lb

Turn-in = 9. Very good indeed. Agile and sharp in most any situation.

Mid-Corner Response = 9. The throttle can be used to induce power oversteer very easily, making this an easy – and fun - car to keep on the line.

Corner exit = 8. Sometimes out a little wide if you’re on the power too early, but overall good.

Stability = 7. Occasionally it can take you by surprise, but once accustomed to its ways you can keep it in line.

Grip = 8. The diff and downforce do a very good job of taming almost 600bhp.

High-speed controllability = 8. Nice, not understeery but not liable to swap ends at 150mph either.

Handling while braking = 8. Very good, and stable for such powerful rear brakes. Turns in easily on the brakes.

Acceleration = 8. The gears really help the acceleration here, and the extra power can also be felt.

Total = 65/80

Final Comments
I really do like this one. It feels very agile and connected all the time, despite the downforce, and the tight diff works wonders here. The gears are well thought-out and using 6th as an ‘overdrive’ like this works well at Laguna, as the only place it’s needed is downhill anyway. The closeness of the rest of the cogs means you can always find the right gear. This car isn’t averse to power oversteer, in fact it seems to rather enjoy it, and so long as the driver is reasonably skilled it won’t bite. This car easily ran faster (and more consistent) laps than far more powerful examples.

TUNER: Greycap

802bhp /// 802ft/lb

Turn-in = 7. Not bad, but still feels understeery at speed. Largely because it moves much faster than expected.

Mid-Corner Response = 8. The traction control holds the rear end in line, and so the throttle can be opened early.

Corner exit = 8. No problems, it behaves predictably but can run a little wide.

Stability = 8. I couldn’t find a way to upset this car. Aside from braking with a wheel on grass, it’s very stable (sometimes even then)

Grip = 9. Pretty much unassailable due to the traction control.

High-speed controllability = 7. No stability problems, but sometimes a little hard to turn. Again because it moves so quickly.

Handling while braking = 7. The traction control takes some of the responsiveness on hard braking, and understeer creeps in.

Acceleration = 9. Very, very quick. The close ratios work really well, this is the only car on test that can fully use all six gears.

Total = 63/80

Final Comments
This is the fastest car here, and by a very long way. It’s clearly a focused fast setup, not designed to be spectacular to watch but a car that races for the clock rather than the crowds. For this, it works very well. It’s not excessively powerful over some of the other cars, but it is still much faster. The traction control is probably needed to keep it in line, which it does well. It does the job it was designed for, and for that I quite like it.

______________________________________________________

TUNER: Team666

707bhp /// 798ft/lb

Turn-in = 7. Not too bad, although sometimes prone to understeer.

Mid-Corner Response = 8. The traction control holds the rear end in line, and so the throttle can be opened early.

Corner exit = 7. Has a tendancy to run wide on the power, likely due to the downforce balance.

Stability = 8. I couldn’t find a way to upset this car. Aside from braking with a wheel on grass, it’s very stable (sometimes even then)

Grip = 9. Pretty much unassailable due to the traction control.

High-speed controllability = 7. No real problems, although a little more understeery than expected. The downforce balance is shown here.

Handling while braking = 7. The traction control can’t really be felt, but turning in on the brakes still isn’t too sharp.

Acceleration = 8. The (surprisingly high) torque pulls the car out of corners hard, and takes it up to high speed easily.

Total = 61/80

Final Comments
This is another setup that is clearly focused on setting fast times, and although it is not as fast as Greycap’s car is it still effective. It doesn’t grant the driver power oversteer, or indeed any sort of instability at all, but stays in line and on the line. The gearing is simple but effective, and I like the overall feel of the setup – it does the job it was intended for.

______________________________________________________

TUNER: Du?k

757bhp /// 757ft/lb

Turn-in = 9. Sharp and quick, but not so much so to slide the rear out.

Mid-Corner Response = 9. Easily adjusted, and no real understeer to speak of.

Corner exit = 9. If you would like power oversteer, use the throttle, if you would like a straight exit then that’s fine too.

Stability = 7. A bit prone to tail-happiness, but easy to keep it under control.

Grip = 7. Surprisingly good for 750bhp, throttle control will keep the rear tyres intact easily enough.

High-speed controllability = 8. Responsive enough, although it can sometimes feel a little precarious.

Handling while braking = 8. No problems, although don’t leave the braking too late.

Acceleration = 8. All 750 horses are being used here – the engine revs cleanly and sharply, making this a fast straight-line car.

Total = 65/80

Final Comments
I really like this car. It took just one lap to get fully used to it and start to explore its limits, which are very high. The driver feels connected to the car all the time, taking an active part in keeping it under control – all that agility and power-oversteer takes some taming – but this makes it all the more rewarding. Being the second-fastest around the track, despite not really feeling like a race car, makes it great fun to drive.

The Verdict
Highest Points Score = Tied between Duck & zefff
Despite the points tie, Duck's car is my winner for this week. It manages to be responsive and sharp all the time without ever feeling too dangerous to be pushed hard. The result is a very fun and very fast car.

Moral of the Story: American muscle isn't enough without a good setup behind it.

Ranking (1-10): 5 - plenty of power, but nowhere near enough grip.

Total Combined Ranking: 33

Final Thoughts: Not good. Understeer all over the place, except when there's snap oversteer. I had to allow roughly 1 ice age for braking to get it turned in. Suffice to say I didn't get on with this car at all, it's a real Jekyll and Hyde - understeer, understeer, understeer, nothing, SNAP OVERSTEER NOW!

It didn't suit me at all, I'm afraid.

Grip (start-offs, how much power can be used without the drive wheels losing traction? Does the car oversteer excessively?)
Ranking (1-10): 9 - very good, helped by the TCS.

High-speed controllability (whether the car becomes 'frantic' and turns far too sharply at high speeds)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - a bit of twitchiness spoils it.

Handling while braking (are you able to easily turn the car while braking, and without going into oversteer?)
Ranking (1-10): 5 - too much understeer on the brakes.

Acceleration (how good is it? Is there a lot of traction while doing it?)
Ranking (1-10): 5 - Once again, it could use more power.

Total Combined Ranking: 59

Final Thoughts:A good tune, but with a little too much understeer for me. Also, there's too much TCS for the lower power level here.

An odd one this - I've given it fairly high marks but been quite critical too.

Tuner - Greycap

Turn-in (entry to corners)
Ranking (1-10): 9 - Almost spot on for me.

Mid-Corner response (whether the car under/oversteers mid-corner or holds the racing line well)
Ranking (1-10): 9 - Just the slightest bit of understeer.

Corner exit (how quickly you can exit a corner whilst staying in good control)
Ranking (1-10): 9 - good under power.

Stability (rear end staying in line, car not 'jumping' or feeling skittish in turns)
Ranking (1-10): 9 - very good.

Grip (start-offs, how much power can be used without the drive wheels losing traction? Does the car oversteer excessively?)
Ranking (1-10): 9 - the amount of TCS is spot on.

High-speed controllability (whether the car becomes 'frantic' and turns far too sharply at high speeds)
Ranking (1-10): 8 - slightest bit of twitchiness.

Handling while braking (are you able to easily turn the car while braking, and without going into oversteer?)
Ranking (1-10): 8 - nicely controllable, just a bit of oversteer.

Acceleration (how good is it? Is there a lot of traction while doing it?)
Ranking (1-10): 9 - very good.

Total Combined Ranking: 70

Final Thoughts: Very good work, fast and controllable. One of those cars that I just wanted to keep driving to shave another tenth off. I call them "one more lap" cars and this is definitely one of them.

Good stuff 👍

Tuner - Team666

Turn-in (entry to corners)
Ranking (1-10): 9 - once again, works for me.

Mid-Corner response (whether the car under/oversteers mid-corner or holds the racing line well)
Ranking (1-10): 10 - absolutely right. I can't say enough about this, just so controllable.

Corner exit (how quickly you can exit a corner whilst staying in good control)
Ranking (1-10): 9 - just the merest hint of understeer, very nearly perfect.

Stability (rear end staying in line, car not 'jumping' or feeling skittish in turns)
Ranking (1-10): 9 - very good.

Grip (start-offs, how much power can be used without the drive wheels losing traction? Does the car oversteer excessively?)
Ranking (1-10): 9 - again, very good. I'm running out of things to say.

High-speed controllability (whether the car becomes 'frantic' and turns far too sharply at high speeds)
Ranking (1-10): 9 again, very nice.

Handling while braking (are you able to easily turn the car while braking, and without going into oversteer?)
Ranking (1-10): 9 - extremely stable and controllable.

Acceleration (how good is it? Is there a lot of traction while doing it?)
Ranking (1-10): 9 - excellent again.

Total Combined Ranking: 73

Final Thoughts: Fantastic - another "one more lap" job, every area pretty much spot on for me. Driving styles differ of course, but I just clicked with this car straight off.

Turn-in (entry to corners)
Ranking (1-10): 8 - slight tendency towards understeer.

Mid-Corner response (whether the car under/oversteers mid-corner or holds the racing line well)
Ranking (1-10): 8 - pretty good.

Corner exit (how quickly you can exit a corner whilst staying in good control)
Ranking (1-10): 6 - too eager to stray into oversteer.

Stability (rear end staying in line, car not 'jumping' or feeling skittish in turns)
Ranking (1-10): 8 - pretty good.

Grip (start-offs, how much power can be used without the drive wheels losing traction? Does the car oversteer excessively?)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - not bad, maybe needs more camber.

High-speed controllability (whether the car becomes 'frantic' and turns far too sharply at high speeds)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - just too nervous for me.

Handling while braking (are you able to easily turn the car while braking, and without going into oversteer?)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - not adjustable enough.

Acceleration (how good is it? Is there a lot of traction while doing it?)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - lacks rear traction for me.

Total Combined Ranking: 58

Final Thoughts: A pretty good job, my only issues were twitchiness at high speed and on-throttle traction. The back end steps out if you're the tiniest bit firm with the power. Overall a good tune.

Turn-in (entry to corners)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - a bit understeery for me.

Mid-Corner response (whether the car under/oversteers mid-corner or holds the racing line well)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - I can adjust the line, but the bias is still towards understeer.

Corner exit (how quickly you can exit a corner whilst staying in good control)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - and the bias here leans towards oversteer.

Stability (rear end staying in line, car not 'jumping' or feeling skittish in turns)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - it's OK, but not very forgiving at the Corkscrew.

Grip (start-offs, how much power can be used without the drive wheels losing traction? Does the car oversteer excessively?)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - not too bad.

High-speed controllability (whether the car becomes 'frantic' and turns far too sharply at high speeds)
Ranking (1-10): 8 - pretty good.

Handling while braking (are you able to easily turn the car while braking, and without going into oversteer?)
Ranking (1-10): 6 - flips into oversteer too easily.

Acceleration (how good is it? Is there a lot of traction while doing it?)
Ranking (1-10): 9 - very good.

Total Combined Ranking: 58

Final Thoughts: A nice tune, though it's outdone by others here it's still a nice piece of work. My criticisms would be bit of understeer under braking and it's unforgiving nature through the Corkscrew. Get the CS right and it's fine, get it wrong and it bounces around all over the place.'

Final, final thoughts

Two clear winners for me - Greycap and Team666. Team666 gets it on points, but they are very close in terms of being fun to drive. I like them both very much.

Thanks to all the tuners for giving me track time at a circuit I'm not very good at

Im slowly creeping up...well im up to 3rd this week. I wasnt expecting suck a high rating in some of the catagories. However, the underster was a bitch to tune out and have tried all that I could to get rid of it, but in the end it was still there. I like thee track, but the car could have been changed to, lets say, a new mustang?

Thank you all for your generous points! I didn´t expect this at all, and it was after all a very tight margin! One point... Hats off to everybody!

Good fun judging this one, and it looked like all the judges had very different thoughts!
I'm quite glad Greycap's setup came second by such a narrow margin, because although the points system doesn't really let me display it I thought it was the best setup for doing very fast laps. :) But, I like power oversteer too much to rate quite so highly with a race-car-steady setup like that :dopey: despite it doing the job it was clearly made for so well :indiff:

Great job by everyone who took part! 👍

Wow! Thanks to the judges. I thought I did really well with a car I dont like that much and the comments really did reflect well on where I had and had not put the work in. :)
