Turbo with no intercooler?

In GT4 you have the option of putting a turbo on NA cars, but, unlike with originally turbo cars, you can't buy an intercooler. Doesn't the car need more air, why the discrimination?

Are you sure there are N/A cars where you can buy a turbo, but no intercooler? Any examples?

All the Lotus Elise models, Toyota AE86 (both the Trueno and Levin) Mitsubishi FTO, Honda Civic and Integra.., hmm, that's about all that i can think of.., BTW, good question there, blkvzgo..,

EVERY CAR that was not designed as a turbo model is missing the intercooler upgrade, regardless of what it is. Some of them don't even get the option for the turbo.

Compare Supra RZ to Supra SZ-R or a 3000GT MR to 3000GT SR. Silvia's are the same too (K's vs Q's), and also the R32 GTS-t vs GTS25.

Yeah, but the NSX engine bay (in real-life) is so cramped, there simply would be nowhere to add a turbo, not without cutting a hole somewhere, right? That's always been my theory as to why NSXs don't get turbos in the game.

Thats true. Although superchargers can be fitted it seems, just look on YouTube.

Which raises the question: Why no supercharger for the NSX?

And for that matter, most other cars that can have supercharger upgrades (theres one for the Honda B-series motor if I remember correctly), don't in GT4.

I can answer the thread question plain and simple. The reason that cars which were originally naturally aspirated as standard and have the option of being turbo'd but not intercooled, is so people can't buy the N/A Tuning and put an intercooler on for a turbo that isn't there. Make sense? The one error in this is the Audi S4 purchased new, which can only have N/A Tuning and no option of turbo, is N/A out the factory, yet strangely can get an intercooler.

I'm not saying it's not possible to charge an NSX, I'm just saying that (in the game) to do so would require modification somewhere external; perhaps a hole would need to be cut in the hood or something, and PD is trying to model the NSX based on what it can take without changing the bodywork. That's just my guess, though.

Let's not forget displacement increase, as well 👎 Only a handful of cars can get this in the game, but in real-life, hundreds more should technically be able to be bored out. 👎

They could have given you the option to buy an intercooler, but no HP increase if used without a turbo, after all you can put an intercooler on a NA car in real life, only it would be just a decoration, like those spoilers with zero attack angle or the exhausts that only make noise and no hp.

Well putting a stage 2 turbo with no intercooler would probably make you engine explode in real life. What I was trying to say was they could do the same thing they did with the LSD and Yaw controller for the Evo. Since they're not compatible, you could only equip one, the other just unequipped itself. Why not do the same thing here - the intercooler unequippes itself if you change from turbo to NA mods.

Then we realize that this is GT instead of NFS and understand why the option wasn't given. ;)

Agreed Greycap, this is GT and not RICE A RIDE!! :irked:

Intercoolers on N/A's in real life..........*shakes head* It's no wonder the domestic car owners heap crap on the import lovers.

I think a stage 4 turbo would blow you up, but stage 2 and sometimes even stage 3 don't give that much of a powe gain unless it is a turbo model which can be intercooled. What I'm trying to say is you don't need an intercooler, and from what I understand you won't until you run higher boost/bigger turbo. An intercooler will give power gains, but are there for the most part to cool the whole process down and prevent overheating in high pressure situations.
As for the equip/unequip part, they did it with N/A and turbo doing that to each other, maybe the programming wouldn't allow N/A to unequip a turbo and intercooler at once.

And that means what exactly? This sounds specifically like "NFS sucks" rather than an actual reason why it shouldn't be an option in GT games.

Actually, no. They already have coding in the game that would prevent this (it would merely be a case of widening the scope of it), so that explains nothing.

There is an intercooler even on turbodiesel Peugeots, you think there's no need for it on a stage 2 turboed car. An intercooler is needed for cooling down the air that goes into the engine, because on a turbocharged car the air reaches higher temperatures compared to normal aspiration. The power increase is more of a side-effect I think.

It means that the NFS games are focused on making the car look fast, the GT games are focused on making the car go fast. An intercooler on a naturally aspirated car is all show no go, so why even give the option in the first place? I would certainly understand fitting the intercooler WITH a turbo but the point was that there's absolutely no sense to fit an intercooler without one.

You don't have to rice your car to progress in Most Wanted and Carbon. NFSU and NFSU2 needed ricing to progress though, something about magazine covers. ProStreet I'm not sure of. UGLY kits, but they did increase the aero of the car.

But I do agree with you on the intercooler bit. It just adds weight (in the real world anyway, it seems to weigh nothing in games), which makes you go slower. Maybe not that much of a difference, but its still useless weight. 💡

what do you mean by "ricing your car"?? why are theses people called "ricers"""

I'll explain with images. Or try to. :indiff:

This Mugen kit for the Civic looks nice, and I'm sure you'll agree. Its clean, simple, you wouldn't puke at it if you saw it driving down your street.

ricer_civic_2.jpg

This however, no matter how much the owner thinks its "cool", looks like balls. :yuck: This is generally considered "rice", and therefore not nice!

I apologise to anyone who lost their stomach looking at the 2nd image. :dopey:

Autobots, transform and move out!!

I can provide MANY MANY MANY examples of 'RICING' a car up. Infact, if I threw up just 1/2 the cars I know that look ridiculous like that, GTP's servers would have a hard time with bandwidth.

Here is one example of how 1 person can rebuild their car again and again and make it ricier each time......ladies and gentlemen I present....RBABY!! :mischievous: The start is just a description of what has been spent and the opinions expressed below are most definitely NOT MINE, just copied and pasted from ssgti.com!!

Here we have a 'R Baby', one of the wildest GTi's in the world. According to the owner Rabih this is a "swift like no other". That's for certain. As you will see below this car has undergone many transformations to help it win alot of shows in Australia. It's unique to say the least. You won't confuse this car with any other GTi you see on the road. Over $120,000 aud has been spent on this car during the many changes and buildups.

rbaby1.jpg
- Starts life as a normal Swift (Cultus) GTi.
rbaby4.jpg
- Some 17's get thrown on and paint job, nothing too overdone......YET!!
rbaby5.jpg
- This is where it starts getting ridiculous, Phase 1 of ricing.
rbaby6.jpg
- Rebuilt whole car, Phase 2 of ricing.
rbaby10.jpg
- Rebuilt whole car again, added turbo and intercooler and disgusting airbrushing!! :yuck:
rbaby12.jpg
- More feral airbrushing on the car!!

That's how you turn a car into a metallic abortion. ;)

Dammit, it linked the first time and no problems........maybe ssgti doesn't want me to link the images. :irked: They can bite me then.

Ohwell, copy and paste the following url's. ;)

And then after looking at them, look at this WELL DONE SWIFT!! :D Converted to 4WD turbo, nitrous system, OVER $100k spent on this one aswell, but done a lot better. ;) This is the car formerly known in Sydney as ITSMAD. Was Australia's fastest street driven FWD at one time in the early 90's. :)

The .jpg links just link me to the homepage itself O.o

That blue Swift looks badass though. :D

No problem.

Actually Mafs, I found the car on the site. I have 1 word for it.

UGH.

You AND the whole of Australia say that Roj. :P And his behaviour at the car shows would make any true hot rodder want to lynch the owner and hang him from the tallest tree in the forest!! :sly:

Think of him, plus his cousins in the dozens all hanging around that P.O.S. at a car show. All of them acting like tryhards, picking fights with anyone who gave them eye contact for more than 1 second and insulting any lady under 20 with a miniskirt on. :irked:

I'm so glad that muppet (along with many like him) got out of the show car scene. :D They spoiled the fun of going to a car show for many normal people who didn't have a full passion for cars but were interested in what was being done to the cars over time. :(
