Turbo with no intercooler?

Come on now, I'm sure that bodykit on the blue civic provides enough downforce to let it drive upside down in a tunnel at 100mph. :P:lol:

You AND the whole of Australia say that Roj. :P And his behaviour at the car shows would make any true hot rodder want to lynch the owner and hang him from the tallest tree in the forest!! :sly:
I think towing him by his legs and going down a motorway at 100mph would be better. :D

Think of him, plus his cousins in the dozens all hanging around that P.O.S. at a car show. All of them acting like tryhards, picking fights with anyone who gave them eye contact for more than 1 second and insulting any lady under 20 with a miniskirt on. :irked:
We call that type of person/people Chavs over here.
I'm so glad that muppet (along with many like him) got out of the show car scene. :D They spoiled the fun of going to a car show for many normal people who didn't have a full passion for cars but were interested in what was being done to the cars over time. :(

I've never been to a tuning car show myself but I know what you mean. Been to a few shows with classic cars and the '97 NEC motorshow though. :D

If it could do 100mph. Its probably got a 1.3L engine thats struggling to carry around the extra 2 tonnes of plastic

I think that Civic would look better being upside down. 👍

On it's roof!! :mischievous::lol:

Here's a Civic with a little bit more taste.

You call that taste? That is still what we muscle car boys call a riced up Civic.
Try this for taste:

Or even this:

Mafs, NOTHING from Max Power is tasteful. :P Its only now they hopped onto the JDM bandwagon they feature nice cars.

Ricing doesn't make sense - why pretend to be something you're not? I personally like werewolfs, cars that are fast but don't show it. Example - Audi RS6. The average viewer will probably mistake it for a regular A6.

Edit the first post of the thread, you'll get a chance to change the name in the upper box. OR, alternatively, double click the empty area next to the thread name in the forum view, it'll do the same. 👍

An intercooler on a naturally aspirated car is all show no go, so why even give the option in the first place?
I dunno. But considering that isn't what the thread starter was talking about (he was talking about turboed cars that weren't turboed stock not accepting intercoolers, not NA cars not accepting intercoolers), what is the relevance?

Edit: Never mind, I just noticed that you were replying to someone else. Now I understand.

No, that blue one is fully riced up, the Candy Red one atleast looks more eye appealing. Not saying it's fast Holdenboy, if this was just based on speed I'll throw up some quick imports that look like gold. ;)

That should tease the senses. ;)

The first 2 and the last 2 (VLs may have an RB engine, but they're not imports) look nice. But that yellow one is pretty ugly. Not the mods, just the car itself :yuck:

The yellow one is Australia's quickest street Evo. Mid 9's on the 1/4. There's pics of it without the stickers and w/wing around the net. He also lives in QLD too.

It's still pretty ugly. Evos don't suit my styling tastes, except the new one which is just a little better.

I can answer the thread question plain and simple. The reason that cars which were originally naturally aspirated as standard and have the option of being turbo'd but not intercooled, is so people can't buy the N/A Tuning and put an intercooler on for a turbo that isn't there. Make sense? The one error in this is the Audi S4 purchased new, which can only have N/A Tuning and no option of turbo, is N/A out the factory, yet strangely can get an intercooler.

That's a great observation mate, about the S4. My initial reaction was that the S4 was turbocharged standard out of the factory, but then realized you weren't talking about the '98 S4, but the '03 model, the only S4 of recent memory which hasn't had a turbocharger strapped to the exhaust manifold.

I did believe that in Gran Turismo 1, the only things that couldn't have intercoolers fitted were cars that generally had a lack of underbonnet space, and machines that were from hardcore naturally aspirated manufacturers(Honda, Chev, etc). The one thing that disappoints me about the whole tuning process in Gran Turismo is the clear lack of cars that you can perform a displacement increase for. Most muscle cars are well open to a larger crank and more cubic inches, but the Polyphony Digital team seem to think that Skylines are the only cars in the world that can be bumped from 2.6 to 2.8 litres, hehe.

The intercooler is clearly an error, but I remember some time ago, a guy in a VL Commodore had an intercooler fitted to his N/A car with no plumbing, just for show and had a BOV fitted to the intake piping. The idiot didn't realise that without a turbo, he'd never get the valve to open by simple atmospheric pressure and wasted his money. He also stuck the intercooler behind his front bar with zip ties and the thing was as loose as all buggery and rattled like hell. It was the funniest thing I'd ever seen but much more stupid than the kitted Civics, hehe.

Nice to see some people on this forum who know what a Commodore is. Most other people on other forums give you a blank look when you say Holden or XR8, hehe!

;)

if i'm not mistaken doesn't the blue car have a 20b in it? it's probably gutted too i don't really think that is "ricer" because ricers do like no performance mods except intake most of the time

I've heard the opinion that applying a turbo without an intercooler is possible provided that the ambient temperature of the surroundings are sufficient to cool the car down - cold climate countries.

Sometimes the use of an intercooler isn't always warranted. I've seen some Supras (2jzs) run on twin intake charges for a single turbo - in a way providing enough cool air for the turbo to run at optimum.

Yes having an intercooler is better but not completely necessary.

People with Honda Integra's (Acuras for Americans) have just gone with a small capacity turbo and no intercooler, perhaps to save front end weight or perhaps to save on fabrication work.

I might just be babbling but i think there are some valid points.

As to why the game itself allows turbos on some cars and others not? I figure it was solely up to the designers of the game.

I mean Spoon doesn't build turbo DC5Rs or EP3Rs but you can certainly buy the turbo upgrade for those cars. But strangely enough Spoon has built a turbo NSX but there is no turbo upgrade for an NSX in the game, other than getting the LM model.

It may have boiled down to feasibility and how many tuners have built turbo kits for various cars in real life. The more you've heard of a turbo Integra increases the possibility of having the turbo option put into the game.

Conversely the NSX was far to expensive to modify and own let alone turbo in real life, it wouldn't be completely unbelievable to assume that the game developers decided that it wasn't a feasible modification to include in the game because rarely anyone has heard of it in a daily driven NSX.

On an interesting side note, NSX's do not need cutting and welding to accommodate turbos. I believe it is just a matter of relocating the piping needed to get one to work effectively. In JGTC/Super GT they placed the V6 of the NSX longitudinally rather than its usual position. It may have been for balance purposes as well.

Considering the popularity of the GT series, i always hoped they would have brought a version of the supercharged real time racing Acura NSX into the game. It was a championship winner in the U.S. Mmmm vortech supercharger droooool.

Guess PD is still a little ethnocentric as a most Japanese are. *Shrug*
