TVR Speed Twelve handling

I have saved up for ages to get this beast of a car, and I have found that it handles badly.

I have bought fully customisable suspension, brake controller and a spoiler and still find that it handles badly.

Also when I accelerate in it, no matter how gently, it always makes tonnes of tire screeching noises, even with full TCS.

Is this car just a dud, or can I tune it up to be a super stud? sorry ;)

Cheers.

EDIT: I have just found some acceleration tips for this a few pages down, but it still understeers tonnes, and that hasn't been covered yet.

The site "GT Vault" is habituated by Gran Turismo chassis-tuning afficionados. The ace setup guy there calls himself "Fumes". He used to be a racing mechanic, and his GT3 setups were always outstanding. They all seem to transfer well to GT4.

Fumes declared the Speed 12 to be untuneable. He says it "does not respond to normal tuning techniques", and wrote it off. He refused to even post a setup for it on this page:

http://www.gtvault.com/CarSetupsLis...VR&CarName=Speed 12&GroupBy=SetupID&Order=asc

Click the icons with the glasses under "Actions" to view the setups these guys have posted. Most comments are negative, but a few claim their setups sort of work. I never tried the Speed 12, so I wouldn't know.

Good luck.

I am in the middle of the 24 HR Nurburgring right now, so I can't check settings, but I did find that the speed 12 in GT4 has been improved. I can't recall which if thise setups I used, but I will check in, oh, 12 hours or so. I used it in the TVR meet, and I was really quite happy with it. In fact, I used it for a few other races just because I could...

Cheers guys. I've just won the Nissan OPTION Stream Z. This thing is garishly coloured but drives beautifully, I won it in my pimped up sweet Amuse Carbon R with Turbo Stage 4. Oh Yeah!!!

Ok, so we know how people got their TVR Speed 12 and how much power and torque it has......
BUT, does anyone have any settings? If so i would much appreciate it as i love this car.... kinda.

Cheers

In GT3 I never modified mine. I always drove it stock. I've never driven it in GT4 yet, but I don't plan on modifying it.

Throttle Modulation. Or maybe i should phrase it as "Throttle Control". However you want to say it, this car has needed it in every one of the GT games, and this car alone is only reason i started using the analogue stick for the throttle when playing. You can't simply mash the gas on the apex or exit without wheelspin, fact is it'll lay tire in every gear up to around 100mph. So its just a challenge to drive basically, but there are some things that can help. Mine is still stock, but two things that improved my times were the addition of a wing for downforce and the right ASM/TCS setup... by "right" i mean right for you. It is just one of those cars you have to take time to get used to.

*edit* i just re-read the original post... he said UNDERSTEER? /boggle

I think this car is fine. It does wheelspin but i think the handlings fine.

Ive done the ring in a 6.45 which i thought was pretty quick.

You just have to be a bit careful with it.

I like it its my favourite car

I've tried all kinds of settings for that car and no luck. two words.....Show Piece

Four words - British GT Race Winner

Don't confuse the game with the real world, gentlemen. Out on the track, the Speed 12 actually kicks butt and takes names. The only car in recent years to give it any real trouble was the Saleen S7 and that was largely due to the LM bodywork it has (shouldn't really have been in the GT series at all ... grumble, grumble - soapbox alert :D).

The speed 6 and speed 12 are quite impressive just by putting supersoft tires on them. At first my Speed 12 was terrible too then I bought stage 1 and 2 weight reduction and threw some soft tires on and I was shocked how well it handled. And dont foget how incredible the exhaust is. :dopey:
I also won mine from the TVR cup. Used a speed 6 with the best tires and won those races with ease. I started with Laguna seca with a bone stock Speed 6 and it gave me over 120 A-Spec points. After that it was a little tough so I put better tires on and lightweight and won the rest with no problem.

The Speed 12 does two things -- and only two things -- well. Look pretty and go fast in a straight line.

Even if you DID get it driveable, the same tuning effort put into any other car would be much better served.

I won mine, then took a photo of it in photomode. That's what it's best at. :)

I use this car quite a bit, and love it. However, going full throttle with it takes more work than usual, as you have to gradually build up to it, using your ears to tell you if you're pushing to hard. I destroyed the British GT series without any problems with this car, fully tuned.

The car is very unique in that it is so incredibly light for all its horsepower, but that does not mean you can't tractably channel that power to the road. I had similar problems with it in GT2 until I remember reading somewhere that the old Brit formula for good traction was to concentrate on the rebound stroke with as little compression damping as possible. So I tried that formula on the Speed 12, I think I used 1/8 front & rear and it absolutely opened it up; I had no problem tuning in to be able to fully mash my throttle button (what? these things are pressure sensetive?) coming out of the bumpiest of corners with smooth tractable oversteer.

I ran a 6:30 with mine on the N-ring. I can shave off about 10-15 seconds with more time on it. All I did was tame it I didn't even add any power which would be stupid anyway.

LOL, I'm just an unemployed auto tech with no experience but I think I tamed the Speed 12 pretty damn well. I can give it good throttle in second and full in third provided the road is smooth (the n ring has plenty of imperfections). Besides being a tech may help a little bit but GT4 tells you what each thing you are doing does. You dont' have to be car savy to work with it.

What set up works for one racer may not work well for the others. Plenty of my friends hate on my set ups while I love mine.
