Hi :)

I did a few searches but found nothing directly relating to my questions.

I am curious as to the tyres used by the AI drivers, in the Polyphony Digital cup in the extreme races and the Mercedes SL one make race.

Its just because i entered both with a stock SL 55 AMG (R230) '02 using S2 tyres, and in both competitions, there was the same car, presumably stock, with another, better car in the line-up.

So it should have been at least 60 points because of the same car in the line-up? But no. In the PD cup there was a Ford GT in the lineup - which actually beat me on a couple of the races, namely Le Sarthe (due to the long straights - my car just couldn't keep up) and Motorland (due to me requiring a pit in). However, i was only getting 5 points a race, and it was quite challenging.

A similar thing happened in the SL one make race. an SL55, and SL 600 and an SL 65 AMG all in the same lineup, which should have made it at least 60 points, but no it came to 8 points per race. It was not challenging as generally the AI are slow drivers. But i feel it should have given me a fair number of A-spec points. It is after all, the reason i bought the lesser SL55 model. With hindsight i should have bought a used late 90s model, as it would have given no more challenge for a better reward.

This leads me to ask two questions:

1) What tyres do the AI use in the mentioned events? (a list of all cars and tyres used in events would be helpful if such a list exists)

2) What affect do tyres have on A-spec points? (meaning how many points difference if it was the same line-up)

Thanks in advance :)

EDIT: I also used the car in the premium sports car race (extreme events), and i was getting 70+ points per race there, and they were significantly easier than the PD cup. My main competitor was the SLR Mclaren which finished 2nd in each race.

Seismica -
These are very good questions......Its just that they have been discussed in a number of other threads, so the Moderators may wish that this thread be short-lived. So with some trepidation I will give you some brief answers:

1) to see the other AI tire choices in a race, just preview the race before entering. This preview option will show the other AI's horsepower and tire choice. In your examples, the other AI are usually on S2 (sport medium) tires. However, there are some cars in the Polyphony Digital Cup that run on S3 tires (just to make things interesting).

2) the best place to look for information on A-spec points is in the various 200 A-spec point threads. There are many discussions of the impact of tires on A-spec points. Wild Cobra's excellant thread has a list of tire multipliers that try to show the impact on A-spec points depending upon the grade of your car's tires in relation to the tires of the other AI competitors.

The Polyphony Digital Cup race is a tough race to win if you are after high A-Spec points, so I'm not surprised that you noticed low A-spec points, but still had to sweat to win. The issue with this race is the diverse lineups. There usually is one really tough AI competitor or "rabbit", and then one or two real dogs. The problem is that the A-spec points system takes some sort of average based upon all the AI cars (not just the best car), and therefore the points are significantly lowered by the dogs in the race, but you still have to beat the "rabbit". So this race is all about lineup hunting, and requires skilled driving. For a wonderful example of lineup hunting see Sukerkin's post # 114 in the Extreme and Special Conditions thread in the 200 A-spec point threads.

The same thing is somewhat true in the SL Challenge, only to a lessor degree. If the AI lineup includes the Mercedes 300 SL Coupe '54, the points offered will be lowered, but you will still have to beat all the other SL's and maybe a "rabbit".

It sounds like you have joined the hunt for A-spec points.

Welcome aboard! Though I warn you, it gets addictive!

Happy hunting.

Respectfully,

Indeed, I'll echo the use of "Preview" feature to check on AI power & tyre type, but be aware that previewing a race burns a game day if you're concerned about that sort of thing.

As far as PD Cup goes, all cars run SM (S2) tyres except the NISMO Fairlady Z S-tune concept by GT which runs SS (S3) tyres.

In the "LOOK HERE BEFORE YOU ASK - MANY FAQs" thread stickied at the top of the board you'll find this thread:

Polyphony Digital Cup useful A-spec information!

by yours truly, :embarrassed:, which lists the first 50 available lineups and a points comparison in various cars, from which you should be able to roughly assess given the points you're awarded for entering the first lineup, what you'd therefore get for most of the other lineups.

I'll also echo what GTsail290 has said and direct you over to the 200 A-spec Point races subforum where there's a massive discussion thread on maximising A-spec points. The A-spec points calculation isn't just based on a single car in the lineup, so you'll only get 60 points generally if it's a single manufacturer event where all the AI cars are the same and you enter the same car. In the case of the Merc SL race, you'll get higher points if there's no 300SL present as it's lower power drags down points and an SL65 AMG present as it's higher power boosts the points (although in a slower SL you'll fins him difficult to catch.) Conversely if the 300SL is present you'll get lower points, especially if the SL55 AMG & SL65 AMG are not present, but it'll be easier to win without the 2 "hares" in the pack.

One thing to bear in mind is to search for "tires" as well as "tyres" as the spelling varies between US and the rest of the world.
You should try using "Advanced" search function.
Search for "Tyres" or "Tires", select "Search Titles Only" and search only within GT4 subforum.
It brings up pages of results for each, one of which was this gem:

Effect on Tyres,Horsepower, AND weight on A-Spec Points: a 'Scientific' Study Updated

Think this answers everything and you can continue discussion in one of those existing threads if you'd still like answers to ongoing questions that arise from this.
