Ugly Cars... and those who love them.

Am I the only one here who loves to check out the historic showroom every new game week, checking out all those boxy looking wonders? For some reason, I just seem to have fun with older, boxier cars, even if they don't have very much horsepower, or aren't sleek and streamlined. Plus, especially with the Volvo 240, they seem to have a lot more character to them than newer cars.

That Volvo rocks! I was more interested in the ugly Volvo wagon than the S80 sports sedan. Some of those older, ugly cars are cool looking the way the A-10 Warthog is cool looking: they look tough. They look like they can take a beating, unlike some of the more delicate looking Miatas, late-model Civics, etc.

My vote has to go to the Citroën 2CV. Especially since James Bond drove it in "For Your Eyes Only". I'm also a fan of the 1971 Nissan Skyline GT-R. It almost looks like something you'd see in the movie "The Road Warrior". Albeit with odd-looking body panels and spikes everywhere, but I think that one's pretty cool.

i sorta like to look at them once in a while. but there usually all japanese. the only others ive seen in there are the volvo estate, mercury cougar, and i think thats it. the rest are like old rx-7, pao, skyline, and a whole bunch of other cars that i would never buy. i just got an idea. im going to see how much hp i can get out of the pao then race it around nurburg (dont know how to spell)

I think that's the only Volvo in the game too. I get extremely annoyed at the amount of Japanese 'landfill' cars that appear in the game. Why couldn't some Western people make a game like this? Why did it take Japanese to do it, along with all their vested interests. :grumpy:

I prefer some of the older cars to the new ones. But I wouldn't say I drive them more then the modern ones...though I do like arsing about the Ring with the 240 Estate, sparks, joy!

The Supra MkII (aka Celica-Supra, Celica XX) is ugly enough that it looks good (except for the crappy mirrors over the fender...the later models look much better with "normal" mirrors. A change of rims is needed as well...there are some black/chrome enkei rims I like to use..forgot the number). Also handles great...craptastic top-end, though. Liked it enough that I'd seriously consider buying one if I was in the market for a car, and I came across one that wasn't a rust bucket....only in the market for a 5.0 SN-95 right now, though...

My "new" red and black Levin, full NA tune 244HP, rolling on black steelies, around 850kg, fully-tuned everything.(exept wing) This thing is a beast!:scared: It trys to go sideways with any hint of steering, it also pretty much out-accelerates any "normal" car in GT4.(with the right gearing, of course ;) ) This is why I love the AE86.

👍

I love ugly Trucks, but not really ugly cars. but I guess I need to know the parameters for ugly first. I think the RX8 is the most hideous automobile ever to touch asphalt :yuck: but Obviously others love it /shrug

I like taking the 1915 Ford Model T (Got to have all Gold S-Licenses first) on the road course Citta di Aria Reverse. But beware you cannot complete a lap of it becuase on the straight it gets stuck going up the hill on the straightaway. But going downhill is fun, though.

I took it on Nurburgring and completed a lap in 13:25:459. It took almost too long!!!!!!!!!!!!

How dare you call a car ugly just because it's boxy and/or old!

I'm just kidding, but really, who taught you what you know about cars? That's a very "average american suburbanite" outlook to have -- thinking that appreciating old, outdated cars is some sort of "guilty pleasure."

I'll give you a tip -- older cars may not be "beautiful," but you can still call them "handsome." 👍

well in every country your going to have people that dont care about cars but i probably can agree that most americans dont respect older cars. i talk to my friends about my dreams and ideas i have ( i want to make a car company later in life) and about muscle cars and they're like who cares. they think a civic could beat a cuda because a civic is newer. its like trying to teach physics to a baby. bunch of retards :dunce: . and i find older cars to be beutiful and have the kind of design that alot of new cars have lost

Oh of course. I just assumed that he's an american.

In fact, I've heard that "ordinary" Japanese citizens (in other words, those who aren't enthusiasts) hate driving old, outdated cars even more than americans and Europeans do. The safety and reliability benefits outweigh everything else.

I've come to warming up to those '60s japanese cars, like the Fairlady 2000, '64 silvia, and so on. They have some nice classic styling cues, and in the absense of decent classic european cars (i've driven the mercedes 300sl and e-type jag into the ground) i buy them when i see them.

Ahem, E-Type. That is a beautiful car, and a word shouldn't be said against it.

Alfa Spider Duetto 1600 and Sprint Speciale get the 👍 from me for sure.

Oh and many of the American Classics...droolage

All considered ugly by many I know but I think they're 'teh sex' as it were

Explains it then lol, not a fan of whiskey myself so considering, my guess was close...but that's another story for another thread that'll never be created.
