Ugly Cars... and those who love them.

You are right. I intended to keep it short and all you have said are applicable. However correct me if I'm wrong but Jaguar, Bentley, Rover and Land Rover should belong to BMW in Europe....

I agree on the SUV models but compare a Porsche Cayenne with a VW Touareg. Don't they give you a feel of close resemblance?

Nope. BMW owns MINI and Rolls-Royce, Ford owns Jaguar and Land Rover (and others), VAG (the Volkswagen-Audi Group) own Bentley (and others), and if I recall correctly some Chinese company is pumping money into MG-Rover and is in the process of a revival.

The Cayenne and Touareg are based on the same platform and are the result of a mutual collaboration between Porsche and Volkswagen.

Yep I agree with what you mean about the SUVs looking the same.

Also, I am always amazed at how many diesel cars are sold in other countries. The only diesels we have in the United States are Ford Powerstroke's, Chevy Duramax's, and Dodge Cummin's. Are any of those sold in Turkey?

I saw a couple of Durango, Laramie and F-150 models (no Chevy models) but they are so expensive (approximately $130,000 after import duty and all other government rip off crap is added.) that people prefer to buy Nissan Navara, Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max'es instead. (Even the Indian made Tata !)

Edit : Correction : I saw a few Chevy Avalanche's... (Incredibly bulky and ugly IMO.)

One star is lots compared to the rating the Perouda Kelisa had, it did'nt even have a star, it had a vacum cleaner.

I quite like the Honda Dualnote, it's ugly enough.

Chalk up another vote for the Volvo 240 Estate.

I'm partial to it though, ever since I bought GT4 it compelled me to actually go out and buy one. I now own a '89 240DL Estate...:D

I just hope there are more Volvos in GT5.

Does anyone else like the '83 Honda City Turbo II? I love that little thing. It's such a plain jane little hatchback but with widebody fenders and a hood scoop. OEM rice-ification, LOL!

Yer, it's a great little car. Too bad you can't tell yourself it's a 'VTEC YO!' when you're sitting in it. ;)

A word or 2 of advice GTfreak666:-

I know you're happy and proud of the fact that you've won an F1 with only 26% of the game done, but don't sell yourself short now and use it for every race going to murder the competition. Aside from the fact it's not much fun, it won't teach you any racing skills which will help you progress out of WRS Div3. :( Try where you can to use a competetive car with the AI selection, and you'll learn far more about racing lines, braking points and when to pass which are all skills that'll come in handy for WRS races and, if you're lucky enough to attend one, LAN sessions.

Anyway, back on topic, :) here's a little something I knocked up with one of my favourite ugly cars, the '73 Skyline, complete with 10 full race reports, tonnes of lovely pictures and even NTSC replay files.

Polyphony Digital Cup, 100% clean, in a stock '73 Skyline!

ewww old ugly cars get a formula gran turismo :D:D

I hope that's sarcasm, because I seriously cannot understand why people are so afraid of old cars.

Yeah. "zOMG TURBO IS KICKING IN, YO!!" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Because they can't drive and they need something fast enough to get them to the next turn with enough of a lead to pull themselves out of the gravel/wall while still maintaning their lead.

What an incredible race report!!!! Possibly, the best post I have so far had the privilege of reading on this forum. Thanks for not only sharing that experience, but doing it in a brilliant way!

BTW: I would never consider the '73 Skyline as ugly, especially for those that enjoy the classic muscle car look... in a slightly smaller scale. :)

This would have been funny if it were also not true. One thing is for sure... when GT finally does go online (and not just a beta version), we will likely see a great deal of erratic driving, and soon people will start to appreciate how much better the AI cars are in comparison to some of the online competition. :)

The funny thing about the Midget is that the driver is a midget. Seriously, is it just me, or does the driver's helmet seem way too low when you're looking at it through the windows?

Sorry for the off topic..... but relative to the post above and for those of you that aren't familiar with the LAN concept, which is basically like online will be, only now you all have to be in the same room, take a look at pages 22 & 23 of this thread, where daan has recently attached a couple of race replays from UKGTP V! They're great viewing on Windows Media Player or anything that'll play .wmv files, and I believe Famine was able to YouTube one of them. 👍

Ok, technically these are on topic, since the second clip features the boxy-and-ugly, yet somehow  sleek-and-cute, at the same time, looking Nissan Silvia 240RS road car. :D

I'd only add that from my experience with LAN or live tournaments VS online ones using the same game, the live ones tend to attract more talented if not clean gamers 👍 , while the anonymity of online play unfortunately becomes a Pandora’s box for really bad and rule breaking gamers. :grumpy:

 I never noticed that before, nice find!

the jay leno tank car
Which is, in my opinion, a very good-looking car. All smooth, unpainted metal with uncovered bolts. You can see everything of it's excessive engine and suspension, a showcase of graphics for the game if nothing else. But what I like most about Jay's Tank is the sheer size of the thing - you could get your entire arm up one of the exhausts, which are less peashooters than AA guns.
And of course the sheer attitude it gives off: even when not annihilating its rear tyres, this car seems to shout, "I AM VERY POWERFUL!"

And it is.

DE

Yeah. I find it good-looking too. That round shape suits it - like some big ship. It actually is as powerfull as one, too. Especially with those two new Garrett turbos he added... Let's see how the new one is in GT5...

I'd like it, if we had all those old boxy cars. It'd be nice to drive the car your father dreamt of when HE was a kid.
