I was watching the Late News a couple of nights ago, and I saw a news reporter board a parked aircraft with replica guns in his bag. I mean, he went through security, the X-Ray machine and all the works. When he was on the plane he took all the gear out and got photos of him sitting on the seats with guns in his hands and even went into the cockpit and filmed himself with them. What' going on? I think someone needs to check their security . . .

Replica guns,..... meaning they were most likely plastic and couldn't support the full functions of an effective weapon. But still disturbing......

Having been through Heathrow Airport a number of times, and having two of my best mates (one of them slept on my sofa last night) work as baggage handlers there, i find this more than a little dubious.

As Red Eye says most likely plastic guns to get through x-ray and there are indeed instances where you can get access to cockpits and if you were bullish enough to a skinny little flight attendant etc etc......

Also how many times did they attempt it, did they have inside help? Are we sure it's not a simulator the guys posing in? But, I'm sure if i asked my two mates to smuggle me on to the airport they could. However they wouldn't, because people who work in airports don't do that sort of thing!

I would put this down to one of two things or possibly a little or lot of both...

1. A newsreporter on a mission to make a name for himself using inside help (at whatever level) to fake up some photo's.

2. Scaremongering by "the authorities" to justify future actions.

I'm prepared to be wrong but like i said having experienced Heathrow security i find this highly unlikely although not impossible.

Definitely. He reckons that if he had come acros a guard, said guard may have shot first and asked questions later.

Slip, what worries me is that security didn't pick up the guns (albiet fake, they still hold the same shape of real guns) and the reporter was able to get past security and onto the plane (may have been a sim, and the photos may have been faked up, but I'm not sure - they didn't mention that).

But then, the whole thing could have been faked up by some sickos who just wanted their face on TV.
