With 26 races done in one day - a new UKGTP record (probably due to not having to watch every replay) - day one is done. Tomorrow the participants can look forward to karts, Eco cars, Shuffle racing, "heavy born-out-of-wedlock cars", their own hard-tuned EZ GT cars, the Integra RM endurance and maybe, if they're lucky, a constant drone of 160 cylinders.

I've discovered that the main problem with winning the very first event is that you can only get worse from that point onwards. As proven rather nicely today.

Psyching myself up for Al Gore tomorrow...

Just to let you all know, I am coming back today. I say this as I'm currently wedged between a Corsa and a mk2 Megane in what can only be described as the slowest McDonalds drive through in the world, and have been for a good... 15 minutes now. And probably will be for the next hour and a half, in all likelihood. And I was doing so well for time :(

EDIT

Would someone mind phoning Leeds to let them know I might have some issues making it back for September? Thanks.

EDIT

Discovered the source of the issue: it's being operated by one man. One man who, if I'm not mistaken starred as one of the basketball playing monsters in Space Jam. I believe he's making coffee, frying food and also doing some light structural work all at once. Marvellous.

EDIT

Day 9: still here.

Sounds very similar to what I'm doing in the GT4 forum these days.

Ooops. Sombody picked a lemon here.

Sounds like the usual fun. Wish I was there.

No, someone quit.

VEXD's Camaro had a Nissan badge on it last I saw it. I'd presume it got forcibly transferred there...

Just got back to Newcastle (well, 25 mins ago ish).

Had a great time, very much appreciate the prizes and appreciate the hospitality even more, big thanks to Famine and Milford for letting us all invade their house for a few days. Hope I wasn't too much of a pain in the backside.

Had great racing with pretty much everybody, but in common with several previous LANs I seem to remember having the most fun in battles with Daan, which usually involve a lot of swapping places and much much laughter when one or both of us does something incredibly stupid...

Did enjoy the enduro though. Will let Famine post results before I give my thoughts!

Eagerly awaiting the VEXD face avatar trend...

Sssshhhh!

He might forget all about that.

I had fun.

I am tired.

I will post pix and stuff tomorrow, if I can be bothered.

Thanx to Famine and Milford for use of the premises for the weekend.
Thanx to everyone else for putting up with me for the weekend.
Thanx to Jon for trying his best in the enduro. No offense Jon.
Thanx to Venari for setting up my stuff when I got there.
Thanx to Sureboss for the sure-tbread.
Thanx to Roo for making me laugh so hard I nearly choked on my chinese.
Thanx to the Ingrams for being such gentlemen and good, fast, cleanish racers.
Thanx to Neal for turning up and being an excellent all-round noob.
Thanx to Milford for making me Tea every morning, which was excellent Tea, so it was.
Thanx to Famine for hosting so well, and not throwing me out in a fit of rage on Sunday.
Thanx to Daan for the Mini adventure.

I am very definitely the hardest personality to swallow at a LAN, and you all coped admirably.

What an awesome weekend.

Thanx for that.

See you next Tuesday, sirs.

:mischievous:👍

Just as long as it's your personality we only have to swallow.

Back about midnight (motorway journeys at 55mph are SLOW!), now to remember my access point password so I can use the PS3 (well, most bits of it). Gone through several guesses atm. Venari, I blame you.

Excellent weekend. Thanks (see, VEXD, you can spell it properly) to Milford/Famine for the hospitality/cooking and usage of their home. Thanks to Famine and Venari for sorting events and making the GT5 phantom LAN work until Roo inevitably broke it. Thanks to everyone else for turning up and making it most amusing and good to meet Neal and Alex for the first time.

Back to finding internet PS3 goodness.

----

SUCCESS!!!!111!!!!

Windows 7, is there anything you don't do?

I arrived very deaded at half 7ish after following a terrifyingly quick Panda and then claiming my first and only solid overtaking maneuver of a LAN member this weekend.

Ditto what everyone else has said about Famine & Milford's hospitality, and thanks to everyone for not murdering me when I drove various bananas at high speed into their rear ends. And uhm, sorry for doing it in the first place. Special thanks to a VEXD chap whose endurance race I killed before it had even begun, and to Venari & Ingram brother #2 who had to endure sitting either side of me while I screamed dramatically at the sight of every corner. Or other person. Or dog licking my arm. And nice to meet a number of new faces (even if two of them were regular UKGTPers).

Incidentally, how are you finding the light reading material Neal?

I had a excellent weekend at chez purple (it was like being inside Willy Wonka’s coat...the Gene Wilder version) and it was great to meet everyone, it certainly made me feel less fugly! Thanks again to Famine and Milford for the invitation and excellent hospitality and apologies for making you look like alcoholics to your neighbours come recycling day when you put out the box overflowing with empty Peroni bottles. I’m sure you had your doubts about a scouser attending but I was on my best behaviour and resisted the urge to relieve you of your wheels ;)

I thoroughly enjoyed all the racing except the NASCAR of course, no amount of Vagisil could prevent me from spinning...on that note apologies again for all the crashing and taking people out in the early races...and the later races, although I think I did readjust my enthusiasm to my talent and stop behaving like the noob :P The highlight of the weekend for me was the EZ GT event in my gonorrhea (green STI) on our home made tracks and especially the last race with a hilarious tussle with HFS and daan.

Thanks for all the food and introducing me to Parmo’s, I feel like it will be a part of me forever.
Thanks to Sureboss for saving our enduro from complete failure after I talked you out of the sensible pit strategy and then handed back to you with a seemingly insurmountable gap to make up, they were some very impressive laps you did there.
Sorry for the early dart on Monday, I hope it didn’t disrupt the rest of the day too much but I’m please to confirm I’ve not been turned into a eunuch so it was worth it and my wife is still on track with her training schedule for the race this weekend (see sig).
Thanks for all the laughs, jokes and innuendo...no offense Jon.
Thanks for all the prizes, my wife was quite impressed so I didn’t tell her the book was a booby prize for the NASCAR event.
Thanks to the dogs for giving me a second wash each morning, it was so intimate I almost feel like I should be buying flowers and chocolates for my wife.

Incidentally, how are you finding the light reading material Neal?

It’s super, thanks for asking. All things considered it couldn’t be better I must say.

That was good fun, your improvement over the weekend was very good. On Sunday in particular you were in good form. Good to meet and race with you. 👍

Still slightly kicking myself for the two mistakes I did on that 2nd run, if I could have done 29s instead of the 2 laps in the 30s I did, I could have caught Roo. 2 stop was definitely the way to go. Enjoyable race and I think we have a definite enduro car for future GT5 LANs.

Sounds like the cat isn't the only animal in the house that might have two arseholes in the near future.

Thanks, I'm glad I didn't imagine my improvement but I'd set the bar low enough for it to be virtually impossible not to be better! Ditto, I had lolz 👍

I was kicking myself I completely ballsed up the first few laps of my stint and not only lost the position to team purple but then lost sight of them before I started putting together some tidy laps...using the clutch to brake didn't help either :ouch:

Sounds like the cat isn't the only animal in the house that might have two arseholes in the near future.

 Due to the prize donated by Jon there's already way too many of them in my house at the moment

Pix or it didn't happen.

I can confirm that Jon did actually pass me on the way home.

I will add though that Jon was doing a speed that I can't discuss on here as we're not allowed to talk about illegal activities. When I caught up to him briefly I was left in no doubt as to why he never gets the quoted fuel economy in the SportKa ;)

Oi! I was keeping pace with the traffic! It's just that the traffic in question was a mile and a half away at the time...

Why didn't you tell me we were having another EZGT on the way home, I would have set off with you to join in the fun.....

Oh and Neal, everything is super when you're, don't you think I look good in this hat?.....

:irked:👍

...These little pants, this matching tie that I got at Vogue...

I was a little disappointed you didn't stay in my mirrors around the roundabouts :P

Talking of roundabouts if you're going to pretend the exit is one of the chicanes from Madrid you should definitely make sure there is no one looking to tell you off :guilty:

Got busted, huh? Naughty boy!

Good to meet the new guys, good to race everyone. The power of almost instant replays being what it is, some form of stewards enquiry system may be set up in future!

I was terrible for most of the weekend, I'm dreadfully inconsistent at the best of times, if someone is organising an August/October event, I need to practice the smoooooth.

Still, having a better partner than myself in the enduro FTW! :D

Thanks for the thanks and thanks to you all, can't have a party without partygoers.

See you next time, you fining finers. :D

Got busted, huh? Naughty boy!

Fortunately not, doing an impression of Tony Hayward and having a company car seems to do the trick. You'd think I'd know better at my age :ouch:

Also thanks for all the work setting things up...which reminds me I need to un-Venari my PS3!

It was the company car.
They simply can't be bothered with the paperwork.
If I had a quid for every time I've been followed/stopped by rozzers and they've worked out it's a company car and then left me alone.....

I did some drafting on the A1 on the way home.... but then I always do that.

:irked:👍

Bet your barry motor enjoyed the rain!

I had 3 people trying to drive into me on the way home. It was just like the LAN... :dopey:

The weekend was great fun as always. You can't beat racing folk in the same room as you and the banter was tremendous as usual 👍 It was great to meet Neal and Alex for the first time, and not bad to see the rest of you again. :D

Videos of my races will be forthcoming when I get round to making them, and Famine gets around to putting the rest of the results up so I can show the relevent videos... Remember if you have a good replay of your race, then feel free to send it/them to me* (with details of incidents and the time they happened, as well as best camera view, as it makes it easier for me) and I can record them.

* Don't assume I have it saved as I didn't save the races that I sucked in...

The last EZGT race is a great replay from my point of view. I'm battling with GTP_Ingram, Roo, HFS and Neal, then VEXD passes me, then you, then I get involved in a battle with Venari until he pits, then HFS and Neal join in again. It was great racing.

I so handicapped myself for the EZGT. Never mind, I still won a race, even if by a bit of luck.

There were two new experiences for me at UKGTP14: the event itself, and the parmo. Both were thoroughly enjoyable.

It was nice to put some faces to usernames, and great fun to both meet and race against you all. A big thanks to Famine and Milford for being such welcoming hosts :)

Looking at the results posted so far, the races I was most proud of were the handicap races at Cape Ring Inside and Eiger. My RX-8 got some serious abuse to race those pesky Evoras at Cape Ring, and I tried my best to keep up with Neal at Eiger :D

A shame I had to go home when I did too, I was really enjoying those Dutcho races!

I look forward to see the replays of all the other on-track action, it seems there wasn't a moment when at least someone was involved in a huge battle!

By the sounds of things fun was had by all!

Looks like the PS3/GT5 LAN worked out well too. 👍

Was it easy to set-up and did it drop connections at all?

What's the maximum amount of people you can have running at one time 12 or 16? - knowing how much fun the (twin) 6-player LANs were, i imagine double or almost triple that would be immense.

Must attend another one of these soon.

It worked brilliantly. We didn't drop anyone during a race at any time. PSN kicked us all off once, at 9:30AM on the Sunday before any racing, and Roo (who else?) was kicked out after one race. Famine and Venari set the PS3s to static IPs and that helped greatly. (My PS3 dropped PSN, on the Friday before it was given a static IP, when something else joined Famine's network)

We had 10 in most races and there was no lag at all unless there was a huge, spinny accident at Daytona.

Being able to save the replays was a huge plus too. No spending a while after every race watching the replays to find out that, yes, it was VEXD at fault.....

(Just kidding, Dave :irked:👍 )
