Howdy guys (and girls)!
As a sequel to my Ultimate Dream Car thread, I thought I would make one for trains. You're dream train could be an old steam train, or even a band new train (like those new fancy-pancy bullet trains the Japanese have got). :P

So, tell us what your Ultimate Dream Train might be, and give us some specs and even a pic. For me (I'm a big fan of the stemies) would have to be the 4-8-8-4 Big Boy Steam Locomotive

P.S.: Warning to all slow connections, pictures ahead. Major lag warning!

P.S.S: This thread is meant to be a bit of fun, so keep it real ;)

I always liked the GM AeroTrain:

But my real favorites are any of the Raymond Loewy designs for the Pennsylvania RR:

Uhhhh... Nobody has mentioned Ivor the Engine yet. Why not???

Clearly the best train. Mainly for the sound effects ;)

Lyle Lanley: Well, sir, there's nothing on earth like a genuine, bona fide, electrified, six-car Monorail! What'd I say?
Flanders: Monorail!
Lanley: What's it called?
Patty & Selma: Monorail!
Lanley: That's right! Monorail!
[crowd chants 'Monorail']

Miss Hoover: I hear those things are awfully loud...
Lanley: It glides as softly as a cloud
Apu: Is there a chance the track could bend?
Lanley: Not on your life, my Hindu friend.

Barney: What about us brain-dead slobs?
Lanley: You'll be given cushy jobs
Abe: Were you sent here by the devil?
Lanley: No, good sir, I'm on the level.

Wiggum: The ring came off my pudding can
Lanley: Take my pen knife, my good man
I swear it's Springfield's only choice
Throw up your hands and raise your voice!
All: Monorail!
Lanley: What's it called?
All: Monorail!
Lanley: Once again...
All: Monorail!

Marge: But Main Street's still all cracked and broken...
Bart: Sorry, Mom, the mob has spoken!
All: Monorail! Monorail! Monorail!
[big finish] Monorail!
Homer: Mono... D'oh!

Who is that bloke in the blue standing right behind your train?

:D

I'm not that old although to you it may seem like it ;)

:embarrassed: Where is that real Thomas the Tank Engine place. Id love to take my little cousin (secretly id like to go too)

This was in Llangollen, North Wales although I think they move around the country, they are in Llangollen 3 times a year at school holidays...it was brilliant.

Allyn - They do Ivor too :D

...I've got that bloody monorail song going round my head now :ouch:

HAHA That's really funny. WIN!

Union Pacific Big Boy: the largest steam locomotive ever built.

Coupled directly behind the big boy is this:

C&O Allegheny: the most powerful steam locomotive ever built.

After these two lead engines comes a trio of diesel locomotives:

Chessie System SD40-2, facing forwards.

Burlington Northern SD40-2, facing backwards.

http://www.trainweb.org/csxphotos/photos/GP38-2/2792CSX-yn3.jpg
CSX Dark Future GP38-2, facing forwards.

Coupled behind these 5 locomotives is a 200-car freight train that has autorack cars, hopper cars, covered hopper cars, boxcars and intermodal cars in it, fully loaded.

At the back of the train, functioning as a distributive power unit, we have this:

http://www.jefflubchanskycpa.com/UP7531-OI-JA12-99-030298-7.jpg
Union Pacific AC6000CW, the most powerful diesel locomotive currently in production, facing forwards.

The train is a high priority fast freight, and travels at speeds of 50 mph to 80 mph, depending on the trackage. Because you cannot multiple unit steam locomotives, three engineers are required: one to run each of the two steam locomotives, and one to run the multiple unit capable diesel locomotives. The best part is that all three engineers wail on the horns/whistles at railroad crossings. The lead SD40-2 must of a Nathan K5LA or similar horn.

As you can see, I'm a bit of a railfan. :D
