Duke
The White Stripes
Did you know that they remarried last year, and Meg just delivered their daughter earlier this month? Amazing what you learn from Wikipedia.

Amazingly wrong, anyway. He did get married again and his wife did have a baby, but it wasn't Meg in either case.

Interesting nominations. They Might Be Giants, I've liked them since the 80's! The The had a song in some Docker's khaki commercial that was really good. And some names I've never heard, so they must be underrated. :D

AC/DC is one of the most popular bands around here, and I'd imagine in most of the U.S. I guess the point is that they could have sold more records, but I don't think for second they are underrated by any means.

My nomination(and the reason why I'm digging this thread up) is Train. When their songs were on the radio, I found them dull and boring. Actually, that was just until Sunday night. Did anyone see them on the "Sound Stage" on PBS? They were amazing, and very talented. I was pretty impressed, so I borrowed their CD from a coworker of mine, but it still sucked. I guess I just don't like their recordings. I'm going to check out the used CD store tonight to see if I can score their "live" CD. From what I've sampled on iTunes, I'm liking it.

I'll throw in The Black Keys - similar concept as the White Stripes (not to mention similar name), the stripped down blues-rock. It's really cool stuff.

Spoon -- Sad that almost nobody has herd of them, their songs have a great beat, it's not rap, it's not loud (which I can deal with loud), and it's overall good music.

"Insane in the membrane - insane, he's got no brain!"

ya, cypress is under-rated. Good thing that the producers of the Simpsons did a lot of searching and, by putting them on an episode, brought them to the world.

(the previous sentence is completely sarcastic...)

Earthless - Kind of hard to out jam this band. Just listening to the music a trip, its just really freakin' good. Makes you feel damn good as well.

Black Cobra - I don't think there will ever be two humans that shatter the rafters like these guys. They can put on a show.

Red Fang - Kind of hard not to like these guys... The raw simplistic riffs along with well executed lyrics. Mix in a few 12 packs and you have the makings for a fun time.

Pentagram - First US born metal band, and never an inch of recognition outside a select cult following. Along with quite possibly the best song writer of all time.

Mark Langegan - People sure love Kurt Cobain, Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell etc... Do any of them really hold a candle of Mark? I really don't think so. His solo stuff is so mindbogglingly good. Period. Maybe its because he didn't kill himself.

Eyehategod - No one out riffed EHG in the late 80's into the 90's. No one.

Ra.
A rock band that has some really good songs.

They had one of their songs in MX Unleashed, but I haven't seen them around anywhere else.

ALEX FREAKING LIFESON!

Rush is not underrated. They have lots of fans and a lot of people know of them.

My nomination would be Wavves:

The only mainstream notability they ever get is the occasional MTV drama. But they deserve a lot more. They're debut album was recorded using the mic from a Mac Book. But they're followup is a much better effort, and a great album all around. They kinda have that stoner surf rock sound about them.

Roll Kiley (Jenny Lewis) - The album "More Adventurous" is excellent. Not always my style, but it's folksy rock with an occassional "was that a few country chords?" thrown in? Or maybe they weren't...

I know, I know, the description sounds horrific. Does it help if Jenny Lewis is absolutely scorching, sings lead, plays guitar, bass and keys?
