Underside modelling?

Do PD model the underside of cars. I remember a while ago the art morrison vette seemed like it was being scanned underneath by some lasers, can't remember where i've seen it now. Thing is in GT5P it seems like the underside of the cars is just black. Surely if there is going to be rollovers in GT5 they are going to have to model the underside?
I really hope there is rollovers in GT5 because this bouncing effect, especially on Daytona is just a joke, it to me makes me think the whole physics system is flawed, i mean surely just simple physical parameters would mean that the car would roll given the right circumstances, unless there is code in there to deliberatly stop the car from rolling over. The more i look at the physics in GTA4 the more i'm impressed by what has being acheived in comparison to GT in terms of dynamics, not so much handling though, obviously lol.

Well, they did in GT4, at least to the extent that those bits which were easily visible in real life were modeled. So I expect we will see at least a similar level of detail in GT5.

You can see the game (GT5P) pull the car back to the ground. I have noticed this several times, usually at Daytona:crazy:

I found a glitch in 2P mode at Eiger Nordwand.

I parked a Ferrari F50 at the top of the bridge against the railing, and with the other car, I came down the straight and rammed into it.

The car would fly like 40 or 50 metres in the air, even though there's meant to be a ceiling.

Unfortunately, I didn't take notice of the underside, but i'm sure that if you're really desperate to find out, you can just try that.

So the Eiger's course map has a fairly high ceiling (or no ceiling)? Hmm, interesting. :) Possible GPL style launches in GT5 accidents?

Rollovers would be nice, however not if they go the Forza route with the physics as it seems on quite a few video's now that it will be really easy to initiate the roll over, maybe just to show it off

The Problem with rollover is that most of the manufactures don't want there cars to appear unsafe in a crash. That is why crash damage in sim racers hasn't been as good as it could be, the car manufactures have limited how much damage the games can show. Turn 10 had to fight to get rollover included in Forza 3. Besides, I try not to hit the walls when I'm racing but will bump the other cars around a bit. I just hope they tweak the collisions between the cars to give the fill of some friction I'll be happy.

Usually in car games, if the cars can't roll, it is because it's coded into the game to keep them from flipping.

How can you say what Forza is doing, the game is not even out yet! :sly:

I personally think they'd be wasted polies. Even if there were rollovers, the amount of time in which you'd even see the underside of the car would be minimal. With this current gen tech, I think they should focus all the efforts into what we'll be actually watching.

Well if Forza 3 has modelled undersides and rollover, it's starting to make me think that maybe the 8 cars on track in that game do use a million pollys each. If so that's the equivalent of 32 cars in GT5 at 30fps, which if you do the math is the same as 16 cars of 250'000 at 60fps in GT5.
However it's a shame the lighting engine and colours in Forza 3 make the cars look half as good as GT5'S.

On the otherhand this video looks like the Forza 3 cars are textured underneath but to be honest i'd rather have a texture underneath thatn nothing. Still even if Forza properly modelled the underside i would'nt expect the count to go above half a million?

I like how he just presses a button and it rolls over.

I would love to have a developer copy of a game.

Only thing I don't like about the rollover, is not too much damage, and in all videos, the cars land back to 4 wheels again, I bet they only did that so Car Manufacturers wont complain about car landing on it's roof.

FM3 has SUVs now, I wonder if they are super easy to flip as in real life!
