Update 1.02 DID NOT fix the input lag [UPDATE 5]

Have a look at this guys:

The software is called Direct Input viewer (DIView) if you want to do the test with your wheel and on your system.
(my above test was done under win7 32bit)

Test done with other games, using the same test conditions.

Test drive unlimited 1 (hardcore mode, 65-70fps): 82ms
Dirt2 (75fps): 90ms

I've also checked with Timo Birnschein video review (race department). He uses a G25 and a box version of the game on PC, with patch1 applied.

His latency: 237ms (same reaction time as with my Fanatec, with EADM version of the game and patch1 applied too).

So has anyone heard any update on the next patch release? I thought it was supposed to have been submitted to EA quite a while back......

I also heard that too, wonder what problems that patch will address.

I hope it addresses some driving issues on some cars, like the GT40 for the life of me i cannot stop it from swaying in a straight line. :grumpy:

So I just read over on nogrip that SMS tried to include a bunch of unapproved changes in the most recent patch submission to EA and surprise, surprise EA rejected it due to the additional unforeseen QA overhead. Looks like we'll be waiting a while for SMS to go back to the drawing board and resubmit with whatever EA had approved. Could be a while.....

Oh well, there's always GT5 patch 1.10!!!

To my understanding that was the PC patch, so it may not affect the console patches. BTW, the PC patch(es) may be in the queue before the console patches (the first one vertainly seemed to be) despite the microscopic market for the PC version.

If you're thinking of the Legends GT40, then I think we can rule out that - the Legends DLC is so new that any problem reports that SMS has taken to heart most likely came a long time after the patch was finished.

Interestingly, Ian Bell wrote the following in this posting at NoGrip:

"...Having said that, the input lag on release with PC was crap, I'm driving the lag free version of course, which you can be soon."

We know that the lag is a lot worse on consoles. Thus my question to Ian Bell is:

Will the 95% of your customers playing S2U on consoles also get this lag free version (well, not lag free, but considerably reduced lag)?

I ask here at GTP because the NoGrip S2U forum is exclusively for the PC version.

Hehe you noticed this too :)

I hope this is true ! (despite the words written down by Ian, I still can't believe it^^)

You should ask your question about console at nogrip DrJustice. Of course nogrip may be more PC oriented but well, Ian and Griff are posting there so I suggest you do not hesitate to post your question despite it is about the console version of the game.

Also iirc, it was said in Griff post (by admin Redi) that the post was also open to console feedback.

edit: oh well, someone just asked it :P

It was me hehehehe... I was just going to thank Dr J. for the heads up...

So you guys confirm I didn't misunderstood what Ian talked about. Latency is acknowledged and a fix is even promised

I hope you guys on console will get this too if this fix really comes true in the future.

Way too late...most people will have given up on S2U by the time it's released, sadly.

Darn, it took me like 15 or 20 laps in F1 2010 to get used to "real handling" again after I had only played S2U for like 2 weeks.

Yeah F1 2010 is as real as it gets

Most people would have certainly given up by that time, but that's because those are the one who just played it for carrer mode.

Also most players didn't even notice the remaining latency. After ingame steering wheel display was quicker since patch1 helped with this, most thought latency was gone and that the handling was like it was because the physics of the game was like that.

I play racing games for multiplayer so I'll continue playing it for a long time. So if latency can become like in other racing games (about 100ms) then yes, I want it !! :)
