Upgrading CPU\Mobo\Ram\HD for Xmas, need opinion

QUESTION

Currently wiring front panel, right now im doing the HD audio, I know where it connects to the mobo however I noticed a wire that was added to it ( AC '97 ), does this go anywhere or is it an old audio wire for older mobos?

Thanks!

will be posting updates soon!

Finished my build, did all the post check, everything works....

however ive noticed that my cpu temps are at 30c/86F, mobo temps 26c/78f

is that normal? the cpu temps seem high...im guessing i screwed up the mounting or the thermal grease, even though I know I did a perfect installation on the cpu/grease

PART 2 END OF BUILD

The build if finally over, it took a couple of days because I had to order more parts and I didn't feel like working on my build at night. Overall it took about 3-4 hours build time, 3 of which came from wiring installation. This is by far my favorite budget build and I'm very pleased with it, esp making the decision to stay air cooled with a full tower setup ( I'm not overclocking this system, making it future proof).

Anyways heres the seasonic x650 full modular PSU

Phanteks mounted

As you can see it clears the ram...the fans can be moved up by many inches if you want in case you have high ram, def was not a problem.... I would say mounting the phanteks was the hardest part of this build, their instructions suck...

Your idle temperature should drop a bit over time as the Arctic Silver 5 cures - Arctic Silver say that it reaches maximum effectivness after 200 hours of use so in a few weeks you ought to see 20-25C idle temperatures. About the only thing that sticks out at me is I personally think you used a bit too much paste; Arctic Silver suggests putting a thin line down the centre of the processor (running north to south), but a small blob in the middle of the processor lid should still be fairly effective.

My 3570K overclocked to 4.3GHz with a Hyper 212 mounted on top and fully-cured AS5 paste idles at 25-30C in ~15C ambient (max under Prime95 load is just over 60C). With your cooler I'd be surprised to see anything above 25 at idle once the paste cures, if your temps haven't dropped appreciably after a few weeks I'd take the cooler off and reapply the paste using the line method.

Also depends on room temp.

My Mainboard temp is 30C
My CPU temp is 35C
My GPU temp is 37C

This is using MX-5 thermal grease.

Only issue I see is Windows 8.

The temps seem prefectly fine for an air cooled system. As Sharky mentioned you may see a slight drop eventually as the paste reaches max effectiveness. Also agree with him that you went a bit heavy on the thermal paste. You'd be surprised with how much a tiny drop of paste can spread once you've tightened down the heat sink. Temps seem fine though so probably no harm with the amount you've used.

Overall nice build. Fun isn't it?
