Ohhh...kaaaay....

We've got a mopar-hater on our hands....

On the contrary, I love mopars...just the ORIGNAL muscle car variants. Anything Chrysler puts out after 1972~1975 in the US is quite rubbish. The only Dodge/Chrysler product I'd be caught dead in is a used SRT-4 Neon.

People care about post rep?

I was only kidding. Note the: :sly: smile.

Hey now, the old E-class...

I mean new Charger...rocks.

I compared the 300C and Charger to big muscular guys, the 300 is one in a suit, the Charger is one in a T-shirt.

The new Charager is a joke, no Charger should EVER be 4dr...EVER. And the Charger uses the same chassis as the 300 so what does it matter that it has a different rear and front end. I truely hate Chrysler for hiting the Charger with an ugly pointless stick.

Eh, they had a chance to bring a car into a market that was untapped.

It's a good car, and the fact that most original Charger owners/fans are now older and would be in the market for a Sedan, I think it's a damn good move. They will have the Challenger Coupe in a few years.

Technically they should have called the Charger the Coronet, but Dodge must have assumed that more folks would go for the Charger name, and they were right.

I'm not pissed that they made the Charger a sedan, but that still doesn't make it right.

It's safe to say the P71 is seriously beating down on the others. I'm actually surprised that 4 people have voted for the Intrepid...I didn't think it'd get more than 1 vote...and only that vote because of sympathy. I honestly thought the Caprice and Vic would be neck and neck...

[voice of Dr. Byron Orpheus]Well, some people are ignorant and cannot appreciate the past's legends and record breakers. Of course, some people choose the P71 for approval, others for lack of commonly-known choises, but I say ignorance is the problem in this thread.

I SHAL SAY IT ONCE MORE, NEE, TWICE MORE! IGNORANCE, IGNORANCE![/voice of Dr. Byron Orpheus]

Doesn't the Intrepid have more power, better acceleration, and better fuel economy than the Crown Victoria? I'll never understand why so few jurisdictions use the Intrepid.

Nope, nope, and yes. They have the same 0-60 according to some websites but I think the Ford has about half a second less than the Dodge, the same with the ¼ mile--the Vic should be about half a second faster, and the gas mileage is slightly better in the Dodge in the city but not the highway. The Dodge gets 20mpg city compared to the 18 of the Vic, and the highway is even. But these numbers are in controlled enviorments...I think the real numbers are much worse for both cars. Cops do not drive slow, they accelerate quickly from a stop and do use the gas pedal more than what the "tests" show. In which case the V8 in the Vic sucks more gas...obviously.

Power:
Intrepid Interceptor = 3.5L V6 rated at 242bhp & 248lb.ft. of torque.
Crown Vic P71 Inteceptor = 4.6L V8 rated at 250bhp & 287lb.ft. of torque.

Ah. The police ones must be different than the stock ones then because the stock Crown Vic doesn't have more than 239hp, which makes the Intrepid more powerful. The figures I've seen show a significant acceleration and fuel advantage with the Dodge. It's all moot anyway though since the Dodge was cancelled.

The Dodge is FWD, and has a problem with rear end float and bob at speed, plus nasty lift throttle oversteer issues.

The Intrepid kills Officers, it is a god awful car, and no one should be forced to drive one.

The Impala gets floaty at speed too, and has some issues where the back end gets loose when you mash the gas, but it doesn't snap around like the Intrepid does.

As for the P71 versus the Caprice, I don't like the Caprice's looks, frankly.

Always been more of a Ford guy, perhaps because my dad was a Chevy guy, and a psychopath, so they have a bad assosciation in my subconcious.

Well, obviously a FWD car is going to be floaty at top speed as compared to a RWD model, thats called physics there. Most of the Impalas and Intrepid Cop Cars I've seen have been regulated to smaller towns, and occasionally mid-sized cities, and for the most part are used for detectives, etc. Their low-cost, combined with "better" fuel economy compared to the P71 makes them a decent option, but most serious police forces in North America know that the P71 is the model to go with.

...But hey, Volkswagen is apparently developing a Persuit Package for the Jetta here in the US (according to the "Driver" Magazine they publish). Makes you wonder how well a GLI DSG would hold up against the P71...?

the crown victoria has to be best, but the ga state patrol are gunna start using Dodge Chargers

anyway my mammaws '95 tuarus looks like a crown vic, so its funny seeing people slamming on there breakes.

You must not have lived in a city that made heavy use of the Intrepids.

Louisville had 2 or 3 Police Officers killed in one week in them.

The cops here in Memphis despise the Impala's, between the floaty rear end, the way it wanders when braking from speed, and the apparently self destructive brake rotors, I can't blame them.

It isn't just that they are FWD, it's that they are bad cars to begin with, much less put heavy mileage on.

YSS, the city of DALLAS uses them...along with the Impalas. I've heard from a couple of officers that the Intrepids are horrid and they'd prefer the Crown Vics. Our local guys around here used Vics and Impalas and I can tell you they prefer the Vics. Perhaps the Charger will change things...but for now you have little choice.

And about the Jetta pursuit car...more power to VeeDub. I hope they go for it. 👍

There are only two local towns that I know of that use the Intrepid police car... Rockford, Michigan and Lowell, Michigan. The state and county police across Michigan use the P71, 9C1 (Impala), 9C1 Tahoe, and my most local police department (Kentwood, Michigan) uses P71 Crown Vics and whatever the code is for the Expeditions.

We have a few local municipalities with Tahoes, Explorers, F150s, and shockingly Geo/Chevy Trackers.

Police here mostly use the crown vic, although i've also seen expeditions, tahoes, and once, I saw someone getting pulled over by a unmarked camaro.

DARE officers used to drive a VW Bug and now a PT Cruiser. I don't know if they count as real police officers though.

A couple of years back, I went to a local fair (Puyallup Fair for those of you in WA) and there was a booth hosted by a police (perahps sheriff) department. They showed off an unmarked police car, and unexpectedly, it was a Volvo XC70 wagon.

I myself like the Crown Vic (Police Interceptor). I've been in a CHP Crown Vic and the ride is pretty smooth. The engine is really good and well, its pretty fast. Now most of L.A.P.D's cars are Crown vics, its rare...or atleast for me, to see an L.A.P.D Crown Vic. Now one car I do see quite often is the Old Caprice, and here in L.A the Sheriff's got them. Lots of them. I saw atleast 3 of them today at work and about 2 on my way home. So in my humble opinion....the crown vics are the favourites...but I really like the old caprice...more room and alot more power.
