Time ago I started to found a little error on my Playstation 3 when I plugged an USB device. It's a tiny thing: 10% of the times I connect an USB device, the video signal gets a reset, it's like a milisecond reset. 5% of those times, instead of get a reset, the video signal is lost. I only can recover the signal by unplugging the device or replugging it. At the begining I though it was a mechanical problem (fragile USB circuitery by touching another area of the internal board) but sometimes when I plug a device, I try to move the connector widely and there are no errors at all... so maybe this is something related with the software (recognizing the USB or whatever).
To avoid this and prevent a permanent damage in the future (if possible) I've been thinking about buy an USB Hub for the Playstation 3, so that, the Hub will be permanently plugged and if I need to plug something, it'll be plugged to the Hub. The worst that can happen is that even with that the error continues but I think that's not much possible (that would mean than the error is not mechanical, but electrical or something). I think that the best idea is to order one that get the electrical current supplied from its independent power supply (instead of those models that doesn't come with it and just gets the current from the main USB port). The problem is that I've heard strange comments claiming that some of the USB Hubs didn't work with Playstation 3. I was amazed since those just follow the USB standard, but I prefered to ask here.
- Does anybody uses any USB Hub without problems in Playstation 3 (which hub model)?
- Do you know about any USB Hub that didn't work?
EDIT: I've been thinking about a cheaper idea: the use of an extension USB cable, with this option it won't make mechanical damage too to the Playstation 3 USB port when connecting a device since the device will be connected to the extensor. I've found one in my house and I've plugged it to the Playstation 3, then I've plugged different devices to the extension cord. All works okey. I've done moves on the extension cord's connector, and so on, and not errors at all. This makes me think more in the software error if so when detecting the device. Anyway since it happens in a little % of the connections, I'm not sure at all. I think it may be anything related to those situations of "semiplugging" (for example when on a PC you do something like this, the USB not being fully plugged, it gets an error while recognizing the device too). Anybody had experienced something like this with its Playstation 3?
moderators note: since I've done some upgrades to this post when I've found results with the extension cord, I would like to rename the thread so that more people with the a similar problem can find it, but unfortunately I can't change the title. If any mod can change it to something like "USB connectors probem" or so, it would be nice. Thanks in advance.
