I just bought GT2. I just found out that i need a ps1 card, but, the other question has to do with playing with the PS2 controllers sticks.

Can the sticks be used for steering and accel/braking? I cant seem to change the control options to allow the stcks to be used. Do you have to use the D-pad and buttons?

Have you pressed the "Analog" button to switch the analogue sticks on?

I used DS2 with PS1 and it worked greatly in the old GT games. The sticks can be mapped for steering and acceleration/braking, keep searching, the options are there. 👍

On a side note, I've used a dual shock 2 with GT2 and it's amazing how the game manages to interpret analog buttons. They analog button functions actually register in the game!

I'm using currently using both of the analog sticks to control the cars on GT2. The L3 is used for steering, and the R3 used for acceleration and braking.
Just go to the options screen in the main menu before starting the game. then find the control settings screen. go to acceleration and braking and change the icon to the analog stick with the up and down arrows (R3). Do the same for steering, except the arrows will be pointing to the left and right (L3).
Using the stick will help you control your cars acceleration and how heavily you brake. It'll even get you faster lap times. 👍

Me too. Analog is the best, I'll never under stand how people get by without it. I didn't know you could use the buttons PS2 controllers as variables though..not in GT2 anyways. but I'm not gonna switch. The buttons hurt my thumb after a couple minutes of holding them down constantly.

L3 and R3 are not the analog controls.

L3 and R3 are digital buttons underneath the analog sticks used in relatively rare circumstances in some games (GT4 being one of them; there L3 toggles replay speed-up, and R3 toggles license test line hints). If you press straight down on the top of the mushroom, you should hear and feel a "click". That's R3 (or L3).

The left stick and right stick are simply "left stick" and "right stick", as far as I know. They've messed the configuration interface up in GT4 with the unfortunate result that you can't properly map left stick to gas/brake and right stick to steering (for R/C veterans, e.g.)). I really don't understand. Right from GT1 the controller configuration interface has been very intuitive and easy-to-use. Why did they need to mess with it? (First started messing in GT3).
