The controller settings can be changed through Options in the main menu before going into GT Mode.

Normal Buttons
L2 - Brake
R2 - Accelerate
L1 - Rear View
R1 - Flash/Toggle High Beams
Tr - Reverse
O - (RA Function) Show Menu (in-game controls)
X - E-Brake
Sq - Ghost (License Tests)
Select - Change View
Start - Menu

D-Pad
Up - (RA Function) Select +
Down - (RA Function) Select -
Left - (RA Function) Adjust -
Right - (RA Function) Adjust +

R3/L3 Stick
R3 Pressed - Windshield Wipers
L3 Pressed - Horn
L3 Left/Right - Steering
R3 Up/Down - Gears Up/Down

I found this to be the best setup. This way you can turn off the annoying ASM option in Special Events, or even change your traction controls without leaving the race.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I had the triggers set as throttle and brake for a while but it was pretty uncomfortable so I left them as shift and I use the right stick for throttle and brake. Everything is almost the same as me.

I have dpad left and dpad right set to look left and look right.

Gotta have accelerate and brake on the triggers, was nuts being set to x!

Yeah, I'm running a similar DS3 config until I can be bothered taking the G25 away from the computer and putting it in front of the TV.

You've gotta be pretty crazy to play this game using face buttons to accelerate and brake.

I've got R1 as view change, no need for lights since they're automatic on night tracks anyway. Square and Circle for gears, select for RA Function since it's the one I'll press least.

Oh, and left/right on the right stick for looking left and right. Critical adjustment that one.

Nothing better then bombing down a long straight flashing ya lights tho :) looks cool in the replays :)

Can you set look left and right to the right stick? I couldn't find the option?

The best way(for me) has always been since GT1:

right stick up: gas
right stick down: brakes
left stick: steering
L2: shift down
R2: shift up

I find both sticks the best option for precise driving. You will never get precise accelerating or braking with the buttons even if they are presure sensitive. This is the key to dominate any car without TCS, ASM, or even ABS(in cars that don´t have it) no matter how powerful it is. DS3´s L2 and R2 are a good option, but they don´t have the feel that the stick have, plus, shifting would be very difficult.

All i did was switch the L2/R2 with L1/R1 on the DS3 and G27 and they both run amazingly for me.

(G27 so i could use paddles)
(DS3 because L1/R1 shifting is better for me. I like a button to shift, not a trigger)

See, I use the right stick for shifting up and down gears. Just a quick flick of the stick, feels like a gearstick :) There are these clip on things called real triggers, cost about £3 and they make the triggers like the 360. I'm finding it perfect for GT5!

I use R2 for gas and L2 for brake and then I use L1 to gear up and R2 to gear down. It sounds confusing but I'm always using the opposite index finger anyway.

Square changes view. Triangle looks behind me. Circle is ebrake and x is the lights.

I find if I set L3 to horn, whenever I turn I hoot... it's annoying haha.. but my set up is similar, with R1 L1 as the shifters.. :)

That's not bad, I gotta set that RA menu up quick! I really can't stand using the triggers for gas & brakes, my reason is it wears my hand out for long races and I don't want to give myself an early case of carpal tunnel syndrome squeezing my hand for too long! For the long races having the right analog for gas & brake is just so much more comfortable. Just stating my preference and not saying it's the best, just sayin! :)

Your preference is really the best way. Not only is more precise, but it is the most comfortable. I´ve been playing like this since the dual shock was release on the late 90´s:tup:

You sure can, I've been using it since day one. Although if you're using it to shift gears I'd be weary, I don't know how sensitive the left and right is and the last thing you wanna do while belting towards a corner full speed is wave to the spectators through the side window.

Great news! I'm sure I tried to set it to the right stick but thought it wasnt there, I will do this when I get home. I basically run automatic gears 95% of the time, but sometimes I use manual so I will just set gears to the square and cross buttons.

I've got my shifters on L1/R1 and I use the D-Pad to go through the RA Menu (Select opens it).

X = Handbrake
[] = Rear View
/\ = Reverse
O = Change View

L3 = Horn
R3 = Flash Lights

:)

My Dualshock 3 controls look like this.

L1 - Change Camera
L2 - Brake
R1 - Reverse
R2 - Accelerate

/\ - Look Behind
O - E-brake
X - Windshield Wipers
[] - Flash/Toggle High Beams
Select - Ghost
Start - Pause

D-Pad
Up - (RA Function) Select +
Down - (RA Function) Select -
Left - (RA Function) Adjust -
Right - (RA Function) Adjust +

Stick L3/R3
L3 Pressed - Horn
R3 Pressed - (RA Function) Show Menu (in-game controls)
Right Analog Stick Up/Down - Gears Up/Down
Right Analog Stick Left/Right -Look Left/Right

I use the defaults.

I've used the GT default ever since GT1 on my PS1 except the analog sticks, which I used with PS2. The X is gas and O to brake, I just can't get used to using index fingers with triggers. Now every time I try to turn hard on license test my car horns, I wonder why??? I still like the default setup though for when using a pad.

Default L3 is horn and R3 is wipers, The L/R3 buttons are the analogue sticks when you push them in. I had to change wipers because I was turning them on when braking hard.

I actually switch in race between the triggers and Right Stick for forward velocity controls.

R2 - Go
L2 - No
X - Upshift
Square - Downshift
Rightstick up - Careful delicate control in 1st and 2nd gear.

Kinda weird to watch I bet. lol

I just "added" R1 and R2 for the brake and accelerator. I still have X and O but I'm trying to convert. It's not easy after 5 versions of this game with X and O but the analog granularity of R1 and R2 is very tempting. I just have to "think" about it now.

if you using R2,L2 as accelerate and brake, and it annoying pressing down the button you can get one of these. A Real trigger by Gioteck

I've used defaults since GT1, but now I'm tempted to use right analog for accelerating/braking. I also want to change D-pad to RA controls but I often times find myself steering with d-pad over analog.

wasnt GT1 on PS1 w/o the sticks or am i nuts?

either way i think i like the ASM and such on the right stick

You can, I have that, plus the R2 and L2 triggers for throttle and brake (with additonal clip-on triggers you can buy, less slip-off), no L3 function as when I get really into a race i pressed the left stick down accidentally when steering sometimes :)

Only thing i would say with using the triggers, and same goes for Forza, is that I do get cramp after a while, never used to with X and square

Ah yeah missed this, what he said lol...although I have the ones made by Orb which I read are stronger, but harder to find. I got mine from play.com...it seems 99% of the ones on eBay are Gioteck though.
