Veyron

So what are people's thoughts on the Veyron?

I have just gone back to Modern A. Originally I tried a Gumpert Apollo but didn't have much success with that, so I backed off, played Legends for a while, changed my settings to Elite and redid a bunch of the lower levels. Now I'm back at Modern A, I sold a lot of the rubbish cars I had hanging around and bought Veyron.

I'm surprised at how well it drives. I mean, it's big and heavy, certainly not a nimble car, but oddly enough it suits my driving style. I have to say at this point that I'm not a finessed drive and I definitely don't hit the seriously fast times.

You accelerate hard, leave plenty of lead to the corner and brake hard to give it a chance to get around the corner, but overall, you can throw it around the track and it sits very steady on the road. You can turn under brakes at a surprisingly high speed (for a 2.5 ton car) and on the tracks with long straights (Road America) you pretty much smoke every other car through sheer top speed. Conversely, it wasn't a bad car even in Dubai, which has a few twisty bits.

I too like the car, when tuned properly.

For me the weakness is its brakes. I'm sure that in the real world the car has vastly superior braking to what you find on the car in the game, and in the real world that's what makes a car quick almost as much as its bhp, power to weight ratio etc.

The Apollo is superior in every respect however, other than outright power.

Yes, most of my fastest timed laps on most of the tracks have been done with the Veyron, but it's such hard work compared to the Apollo, with its incredible brakes and handling. (I don't have a Murci)

It's always a difficult decision choosing which one to use for the hustle and madness of online driving. I feel much more confident with the Apollo's manners and it is a pleasure to drive, but on the high speed tracks you really have no choice when every (boring) lobby is full of Veyrons.

I'm not quite good enough to beat the Veyrons with a 'slower' car yet, except on some of the tighter tracks.

Hmm...I must try constructing a good A-class R35 too, as that is my normal B-class car of choice. 👍 (A bit exciting to control though, with the engine conversion.)

Yeah, probably a good point. To be honest, I've only driven the Veyron twice - once in Dubai and once on Road America.

More than anything, I was surprised at how driveable it was, I really had expected it to be an absolute beast.

I might have to go back and have another look at the Apollo. The last time I drove it was some time ago, perhaps my driving has simply improved.

Oh, if tuned properly make no mistake about it the Veyron WILL beat all comers...certainly online, and definitely on Road America, which is why so many of the lobbies are reduced to line-ups of these cars. Shame really, because it would be nice to see a more varied field in A-class, and have the possibility of any of them being potential winners.

The Apollo for me is a fantastic drive round the tight and varied Miami tracks for instance, but when push comes to shove that pesky Veyron when grabbed by the scruff of the neck will still produce a better time (for me anyway) :ouch:

big fat heffalump of a car i hate it, its fast its realy fast but in a a class race its the only option, shame tho there are so many cars in the game and every a class race there are a sea off veyrons with me depending on who is on i a A class corvette, i normaly finish mid table but hay i was the one having the most fun, i only wish that there was a way to cap the cars in the races, i.e. no 4x4 car or no veyrons, how much better would that be. :sly:

Worst is when the game selects the Veyron for you and you get kicked out of the lobby before you get chance to change it to something more 'friendly' .:ouch:

Same thing happens with the F1 in retro type races.

Some poor newbie sets up a race with his super-tuned RX7 and your game automatically sticks your F1 down next to him.

He promptly craps his pants and boots you off.

Driving Veyron is like driving old B Group rally car. It's pure fun but you have to put a lot of hard work to have that fun, it's not effortless. I would suspect that tuned Lamborghini LP 640 is the same kind of car to handle.

The only time I got to drive the LP640 online was because someone had specified all Lambos in his lobby.....so the game temporarily 'gifted' me one.

Even though I was not able to tune that car it still holds the record for me on autolog on the Miami race that we ran that day.

I thought it was a great car to drive...possibly coming close to that holy grail of Veyron power combined with Apollo handling, which only makes it even more frustrating not having one in my garage. :banghead:

I have to say though, that when I come up against them online (Murcis) and I've got the Veyron....very rare that they are quicker than me around any track, so maybe I was just inspired in that Miami race.
