danoffRage Against the Machine's position on that list is also unacceptable, they shouldn't be on the list AT ALL.

Wow, there are so many things wrong with that list. I mean Lenny Kravitz?!
And I definately prefer Foreigner and Danzig over Slayer. And being a Motley Crue fan, I really think it should have been a bit higher. I agree with some of them, but the Nirvana one is a bit to high. Maiden and Priest could have been a bit higher. But anyways, I agree with a lot of the Top places.

You have to have Radiohead in your top-100, even if you didn't like them. They demand respect. 👍danoffPink Floyd's position on that list is unacceptable. They should be in the top 5. Rage Against the Machine's position on that list is also unacceptable, they shouldn't be on the list AT ALL.
Let me see... more comments coming.
WHERE THE HELL IS RADIOHEAD?
SilverzoneAC/DC Should have been number 1.. No question. They are not my favorite band, but they deserve it. Oh, and not trying to diss the Zepplin, but still, AC/DC should be number 1. and Metallica is a bit too high, Korn needs to be higher. And at all, If MM even needs to be on the list, he needs to be number 100. And where's slipknot. If MM made it, Slipknot should have been there.
I wouldn't say brilliant(lots of people will), but they are very high quality band in every way. Song writing, instruments, vocal, all pretty much flawless IMO. Sounds so haunting(in a good way, of course). I liked "The Bends" and "OK Computer". I guess I liked the Creep, too, actually.Ev0*EDIT* And what is the big deal with Radiohead? Someone please explain to me what makes them a brilliant band. Maybe I'm missing something.
What I said was just my opinion. But I related them to each other due to some of their styles. They are "shock" metal (or something like that IMO) and if I would have to choose, I would choose slipknot over MM. You know, but If I had it my way Dredg would be on therePSWhy do you say that? What relevance is Slipknot to MM? Slipknot suck, IMO. I don't think Megadeath should even be on that list.
PSBee, how can you honestly put up a list like that and rate them when you don't even know who 3/4 of those bands are?
[edit]
Especially Lynyrd Skynyrd and Steppenwolf!
Close to the smartest post I've ever seen on GTP. Period.Ev0Before I begin, I'd like to say all I'm just stating my opinion when I say stuff like 'Band X has the best guitarist'. Don't get all uptight; I'm just stating my opinion. If you want to argue with me, go ahead, although I probably won't care too much.
Now, for my novel...
Firstly, I completely agree with putting Zeppelin at #1. They are the most talented rock band ever (except for Rush), and have absolutely massive influence over the genre. Excellent choice. A lot of bands that deserved to make the list made it, and were postioned with some degree of accuracy. Rush (Kudos to VH1 for not overlooking Rush which is a very common thing), Tool, King Crimson, Iron Maiden, Frank Zappa, Boston, and many others could have easily been omitted, but thankfully they were included.
Lots of you are also grumbling about Van Halen being ranked so high. But, based on the quality of the bands included, I agree with their spot. Mind you, if they included some of the bands that really deserved a spot on the list (which I'll get to later), then they would definitley have to be moved down. And keep in mind I'm talking about David Lee Roth era Van Halen ('78-'84). This was Van Halen in their prime, they were one of the greatest bands ever at this point, they were loud, aggressive, and even towards the end of the era, they could write a halfway decent song. And besides, Eddie was the king back then. No wonder everyone else was trying to copy him for the entire span of the 80s. And for the record, aside from around 10-15 songs, Van Hagar sucked complete ass compared to '78-'84 Van Halen. They lost their edge.
It seems whoever wrote this list was a bit confused with rock's sub genres. For example, I think it's fair to classify Queen as a pop-rock band, and they deserve their high spot on the list since their popularity is undeniable, and they weren't a bad band either (Freddie Mercury needs no explanation, Brian May was a pretty good guitarist, John Deacon had flashes of sheer brilliance, and Roger Taylor was a pretty good drummer earlier in their career). But, if they are going to include pop-rock bands, then they are complete and utter morons for not including the biggest group of all time. The Beatles. This is not a small oversight, this is massive. Whoever decided to omit The Beatles from the list if Queen is on it should be fired immediately, since he/she has no place in the music industry. Also, numerous metal bands are listed, and the omission of Dream Theater is pretty big too (especially considering their immense musical skill when compared to the hacks at the bottom of the list).
But, once they got to around, oh 70, they really got lazy. Half of those bands shouldn't be on there. Ratt, Quiet Riot, Green Day, Whitesnake, they all don't deserve to be on this list. And HOLE??? WTF??? Bands like this are disgusting on the list, given the huge talent of artists who were not included (Many of whom have already been mentioned by other members).
The Guess Who, Bachman Turner Overdrive, The Allman Brothers, David Bowie, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Yes, U2 (not a great band, but their popularity and influence are not to be taken lightly), The Animals, Santana, Jeff Beck solo (he was in the Yardbirds) all definitley deserve a spot on the list. But the following ommisions are just mind boggling. Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and the Beach Boys. Korn made the list and these artists didn't? What were they smoking when they made this list?
But, at least it's better than any list Rolling Stone magazine would put out. Remember their guitarist list where they ranked David Gilmore, Angus Young, and Randy Rhodes behind people like Kurt Cobain and Joni Mitchell? What a joke...
If anyone would like to see a much more agreeable list (and others), please follow this link, and search for greatest rock bands of all time. http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/
And Bee, you are really missing out on some great artists. I'd highly suggest you get some CDs from Frank Zappa, Cream, Lynryrd Skynyrd (they did Sweet Home Alabama, although this is far from their best song), and Boston. They are all very talented musicians in their own ways.
*EDIT* And what is the big deal with Radiohead? Someone please explain to me what makes them a brilliant band. Maybe I'm missing something.
