Video: Pushing The Limits

OK guys, here is a new spin to background sound in drifting videos. I have produced this video where I'm drifting my RX7 around Grand Valley, doing 3 laps (No video cuts), drifting the straights, and maintaining nice opposite lock control. The background sound contains sounds of turbos, peel outs, redlines, etc....all to help enmurse you in the video. I hope you enjoy.

I use my video capture card, ATI All In Wonder, to capture the mpg. Then I use window movie maker to add the titles, credits, and background music.

I didn't like how the game sound kind of drowned out the background music. I'm thinking of uploaded another version. hmmm....
 
I dont care how bad the drifting was, that was fekking sweet, cept maybe some cut breaks between drifts, and something besides 1 track woulda been nice :)
 
I like the editing, and the camera angles. I didn't think the drifting was very good though. Very small angles, and a lot of missed link opportunities. However, I kinda liked the background noises, it gave it some flare IMHO.

I have an ATI All-In-Wonder too, and most of my vids are made with WMM........

I don't know what missed links you are refering to, can you tell me? I thought I manjied the whole course. You have to consider that when you drift the straights, you don't produce the same angles for when you drift corners, also if you look at my wheel, you can see when its at full opposite lock, that in a way shows you that I'm pushing it at its full angle limit.

The corner I had trouble on was the 180 turn on the bottm right of the map, thats where I could have done it better, But IMO I thought my drifts were good, my angle is there, you have to observe my wheel and know that the greater angles come in corners. I manji the straits to set up for the corners....or I try to.

Yea :) other tracks would have been nice, but I was on a roll and i just recorded it till I wiped out, and then I had the idea to mix the backround from another video into the recording. What do you mean by cut breaks between drifts? The video was recorded straight through, no breaks, only camera changes in the movie mode, I have no control over what it decides for the next camera, I can only pass and move to the next camera.

Sorry man, but you can get big angles on the straits too, I do it all the time. Also, you were not getting the angles that are possible with that car, in the corners or otherwise. It's not really your fault that you missed some of the link opportunities. Some of them are not very well known to most people. If you tweaked your settings a bit, you might be able to get some bigger angles. I'm just trying to help you out bro, so I hope you don't take this the wrong way. I would love to try out your settings, but my GT3 disc is broke, so I guess that won't be possible, at least not yet......

It's been getting harder and harder as the days go by, I must admit. However, I don't think i will be able to get a new disc for a while, due to my current financial problems (don't ask)......

trust me, you cant get alot better angles with that car, it happens to be one of my favs (check my vids), and I know for a fact that its quite forgiving angle-wise, and has ALOT more control than you displayed, but we all gotta start somewhere :)

Is the "can't" a typo? Because judging by the rest of your reply, I would think it should be "can".............

I'm able to get insane angles with the RX7, so I am positive that it can....

What exactly is the car??? I dont want to pass my stupid download limit so i dont download many movies.
 
can one of u guys submit at least one full lap of u demonstrating the suggestions u mentioned unedited so we can see wut ur talking about?

I would love to, but without a GT3 disc, it's just not possible to get the replays onto my comp.... sorry....

I don't take it the wrong way... opinions help me improve.
To some extent, I see where you might think that the angles could be more, the video is not a reflection of my angle skills, I can do bigger angles. The video was a demonstration of smoking the tires as much as possible, to not go trough any roads without drifting and staying in opposite lock as much as possible without having to center the wheel to adjust for more angle. The reason I strive for this is because I see in real life, thats the way the front wheels are, they opposite lock and are parallel with the direction of the path of the road, they don't straighten or turn into the corner to get more angle.

It's a shame that your GT3 disc broke, I'd like to see a vid of you doing a complete lap where I can the bigger angles and link places I might have missed on that course.

So in a way I sacraficed my entrance speed from approaching it with less forward momentum, I'm producing the drifts through powerover for most of the turns, not enough enterance speed to get some high angle slides that turn into exit drifts, thats what most of the high angle drifts are.

i liked the first camera view and how it stayed on that view for awhile ( how you do that? )...

the drifts were okay... i know what silviadrifter and bryan c. are talking about when they say you miss opportunities to link drifts...
one example would be the hairpin right after the downhill straight... you can link that, but you chose to do another manji drift.

the video was alrite and the added sounds were okay, but some of them were played at the wrong time (IMO). it would've been a better vid if there was more courses/cars involved...
