Hey there guys, Top GT5ear is a Youtube Series idea consisting of small episodes on certain cars, reviewing them and testing against their biggest rivals etc.

We have our own stig, but we are not saying who he is because if we did he would have to be sent off the edge of an RAF ship in a nitrous injected Jaguar.

Some say that we stole the idea of him from a well known British Car Show,
and that he doesn't like the Top Gear Test Track challenges in the Lotus Elise. All we know is, hes called the Stig!

Episode 1: (Green = Done) (Red = Not Done) (Orange = In Process)
  • Ferrari Enzo Review
  • Ferrari Enzo Lap Time
  • AstonMartin DB9 vs Maserati GT vs BMW M5

I have already lapped several stock vehicles in GT5, which are in Top Gear's lapboard.

Are you trying to help or say that this is pointless?

We are reviewing the cars fully and then lapping them, weather they are on the top gear lap boards or not.

I think this could be quite fun if done right. Just takes some good creativity and I think there's plenty of that around here. There are tons of possibilities besides just testing/reviewing cars too. You could do silly challenges, either with the same 2 or 3 guys every week, or you could pick 3 different volunteers from GTPlanet every week and give them some ground rules and challenges.

Idea 1: Extreme Karting Challenge
All 3 participants get their go karts and compete in 3 events. The first event is karts on a dirt track. Second event is karts on a snow track. Final event is a one lap night race at the la Sarthe with chicanes.

Idea 2: Extreme German Challenge
Event one is Schwimmwagen at Eiger Norwald K Trail. Second event is Kubelwagen at Nurburgring GP. Third event is Samba Bus at Nordschlife.

Or maybe just do one individual event per episode so you don't get overloaded with material.

Or something along those lines. If you have the ability to edit this all you could just put the highlights (lowlights) instead of the entire races/laps and mix that in with a car test/review. Would be awesome if the 3 participants had mics and you could record their banter/dialogue to mix in with the video.

If you pick volunteers from GTP for the challenge participants, maybe you could do a quick little chat with them over Skype audio or video and mix that in for the interview section. You could have a GT5-related news section too, not just game related news but anything of interest to GT5'ers (like new wheels or racing seats/game peripherals).

With all that I think you'd have everything you need to make a good GT5/Top Gear themed web series!

Brilliant suggestions!! Thank you!!
I was going to do it with 2 mates but ofcourse others would be welcome too. Love the ideas, especially extreme carting and news :)

I don't think he's saying it's pointless. Just that he's done something sort of similar.

this is such a great idea, im looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Will this be a youtube thing or are we talking a gtplanet exclusive?

Great idea mate. 👍

He probably going to ruin it with his voice

what's your problem? If you don't like the idea, fine, but surely constructive criticism would be a better way to respond than acting the way you do? :)

Your idea sucks it's a videogame and there's already Top Gear which is REAL, so yea

Well you obviously do not get it. The REAL one is for the REAL cars, and doesn't help GT5 players. This one will help GT5 players...

If anyone wants to write reviews for a car, get some replay footage and send it to me, and ofcourse record your voice for it, let me know.

I'll be staying tuned and will toss in ideas and help with things if I can. I'm fairly creative about video and video editing and am quite a Top Gear fan. I still watch it fairly regularly on BBC America, have a few DVD's and have seen all the new US version episodes too. I have a few on my DVR now that I'll be watching, I'll try to think of how the challenges can be converted to GT5.

Other ideas for segments or challenges could be; set a price limit like 15,000 Cr's (relitively low in terms of GT5) and all 3 guys have to find a car for that price and do a short race. Or instead of a price limit you could set weight/power/tire limits.

I wonder if there's anyway you could use the license tests for any of the challenges? It would be nice if you could pick the car you wanted to use in the tests.....running a Kubelwagen through the slalom cones would be great material! lol

I think most people have cell phones with pretty good cameras now, that could work for capturing the video maybe. Not sure if you have a capture card to get the video or how you're going to do it. The guy that runs the HSRL league that I'm in just got hardware that allows him to capture the race replays and anything else that's on screen.

Looking forward to see how this Top GeTa5r comes along! :)

I use a HD PVR which records anything on the screen ;)

Based on past experiences, anything that's a re-branded of the original Top Gear obviously isn't very successful.
Top Gear (UK) - Hit Success
Top Gear (US) - bleh
Top Gear (Aus) - bleh
Top Gear (insert nation) - .....
GT5 Top Gear challenges - oh dear...
GT5 Top Gear Test Track - cones galore

As for the opened volunteering as the Stig:
Stig revealed - threw off aircraft carrier
Stig revealed again - shot in the back, head and gentleman's area

Wow, thanks for that constructive input! Like Homer Simpson said, "The first step towards failure is trying", right? 👎

He's not trying to do a new version of Top Gear to suit Top Gear fans, he's trying to adapt Top Gear to GT5 for GT5 fans and GTPlanet members. That hasn't been done, so your list is irrelevant.

I have no doubt that if you can do this fairly well it will be quite a hit on these boards. I also have no doubt that no matter how awesome you're able to make it there will be people on here that will complain or criticize. Don't pay any attention to them because there will always be some people who can't be pleased. There's mountains of evidence proving this on these boards. And this pretty much applies to every aspect of life, not just GT5.

You seem to have a good imagination for it, as well as enthusiasm, so as long as you have some half-way decent video editing skills and some willing participants, I predict success. :)

Sorry for the long post, just had to counter that negativity with some positivity and encouragement. 👍
