Seth Smith on day 1 of Open Practice: "I feel like overall today was a success. All three teams managed to find their way into the top 15 by the time it was all said and done. I'm especially proud of Mohammad Ahmed and his team. They're only part time for us this season but they're showing everyone why they should have been a full time team."

Seth Smith on day 2: "Today was a fantastic day of testing for the entire Swift Autosport organization. We learned a lot about the car today and managed to start and keep one of the teams within the top 3.
Perl Speed GP
has been a great help to us. I feel as long as both of our teams continue to work together 2017 will be a great year for Perl Speed GP, Swift Autosport, and Aston Martin."

Toronto, Canada - During a recent NBCSN interview, Ecurie Ecosse driver Gary Slater confirmed his team have begun talks with Ford into securing an engine deal for 2018.

Slater stated, "We looked at the other makers, but both Chevrolet and Honda will want the biggest teams on lockdown and Ferrari is a bit stingy when it comes to customer engines, so we felt that Ford is the best bet. Discussions are at the early stage but we hope that we can get a good deal."

When asked about who he'd like to see replace Audi in the future, Slater replied, "I'd vouch for Mercedes-AMG. They've shown interest in joining, and if Evangeline opens up the engine tender again for 2019, I'd definitely support AMG's entry, even if it means we get a Ford deal just as a shove-in. It'll be interesting to see when happens once the tender opens."

Following the statement made by Ecurie Ecosse management, Honda executives stepped into the public to make a statement on Honda's mission in the series. "Honda has been, and will continue to be open to any interested teams as long as we are within VRR's customer limitation parameters." A representative said Saturday afternoon. "We aim to produce a competitive package without the cost of the other manufacturers in the series. We don't headhunt for the best, we allow teams to come into our fold to be the best."

Cherokee Motorsports founder Clayton Hardy has had a busy offseason preparing for what is set to be a rollercoaster 2017 campaign. Running only 5 races himself, he's looking ahead to 2018. "Obviously with Audi departing, we're looking to different manufacturers. We've ruled out Chevrolet. They already have a supply problem and until teams leave them, we'd have no chance. We also won't be running with Ford. I have no intention on running with an engine from a company I have no faith in." Hardy said, seeming relaxed under the media scuttle. "Honda looks like they'll be picking up business, which isn't going to be great for us. That leaves us with Ferrari and Alpine. I'm not sure how I feel about Alpine. They have the experience with the turbo V6 given they are Renault, but it isn't a secret Sakura and I don't see eye to eye well. We get to wait and see what the different engines do this year before making our decision.
