What's the performance car badge to watch out for in 2007? That'll be VXR8. While Vauxhall is yet to officially announce the name of its new V8-powered sports model, Auto Express has learned that the firm's replacement for the Monaro coupé will be called the VXR8.

Driven in Holden Commodore SS V guise in Issue 942, the new model will be a modified version of the Australian saloon. The VXR8 will produce around 400bhp in entry-level form, with tuned variants offering even more power. On sale in the summer, the four-door is expected to cost from around £35,000.

Remember Vauxhall had the Monaro for a while, but Vauxhall made the VXR500 version even better the most Monaro's over there.

Yes, Vauxhall wipped bolt-on superchargers on the remaining Vauxhall Monaros lying around in storage, whats your point?

Doesn't Holden do HSV performance Monaro's in Australia? The VXR500 was better than most Monaro's or Monaro based cars anywhere, because most wern't meant to be top performance models. There was a high performance GTO in America, and I would expect there to have been a HSV Monaro that would have been round about the VXR500's performance.

Not really, The HSV Monaro's are much like the later Vauxhall Monaro VXR's (6.0L LS2) you guys got, infact the same. We did get 4WD models and other differences but never 500HP. a HRT 427 Monaro almost made it (7.0L 600HP or so) but that fell through. Vauxhall took the final VXR's (already made and stored) and gave them a supercharger for the last hooraa.

Also the gear box in the VXR 500 is great.

There have been a couple of concept big-power Monaros, namely the HSV 427 Monaro, which was slated to have over 560hp, but was killed off by accountants before it could reach production.

Another one is the HSV GTS-R.

I'm not quite sure whats happened to this one, whether it went to production or not, but it was set as a track-only weapon, with 335kw of power and an exceptionally low weight.

These were both HSV concepts, but there is PLENTY of Monaro tuning options here, I've read many reviews of aftermarket supercharger/turbo installations ranging from a slight power boost up to 600hp plus.

It's the same Tremec T56 (as in all V8 manual Monaro's) with clutch revisions.

What was done:

"Vauxhall turned to specialist Monaro tuners Wortec, and the VXR 500 features a new positive displacement supercharger, uprated fuelling and ignition systems and clutch revisions"

Everyone wants our cars!

For the simple reason that Aussie Holdens pwn Vauxhalls. lol
The new gen Commodore is like the sexiest saloon I've ever seen, from GM, or from any manufacturer. I hope this VXR8 will be a Commodore, just with a change of badges.

I thought this would be a no-brainer. Australia seems to be the last refuge of real muscle cars (or at least a substantial selection of them). Why wouldn't Americans be clamoring for them? Even if they were brought over as-is (no more GTO re-badging), I would expect more than enough sales to cover the cost of importing them. And it would simply add fuel to the fire while GM builds a "real" GTO, etc..

no they didnt,a dealer in kent did though but not vauxhall themselves

Uhh obviously (I even posted they guys that did it in a later post), I just stated Vauxhall as it is their cars and I couldn't be bothered naming the exact people that did the job.

I completely agree. Although this time around we Americans had a hand in the development of the American Commodore and Monaro, they were no-less designed for the most-part by Aussies. You can't argue against what are arguably the best cars GM builds anywhere in the world, and I'm happy to hear that Europe will be getting the cars too...

Although I do wonder, are they going to be built in the Australian or American (Canadian) plants? I guess I would have to assume that the UK version would be built in Australian plants, and the mainland-Europe models in America.
