Wallbanger's 1st annual million credit FF Summer Shootout!(6/19/11 final 7/17/11)

Lol, there will be, but very few :)

Yeah, very sad....... You still haven't met Ongirl123?

HEY YOU GUESTS! If you're interested to become a member of gtp, please choose "Ongirl123" for your nickname!

Oh my ****ing god……that scared me……****……Lol anyways, how about you doc? You're a loner too? :D

And getting us back on topic...or at least closer to it.
I would like to start hearing from people about what they liked in this shootout, the things we've managed to do okay with, and how we can make the next event even better.
I would like feedback from tuners, drivers and whatever spectators (moderators:D) might be lurking about.

I personally feel this has overall been a success, especially since we have had a much larger turnout than originally expected.👍👍
Because of the turnout and positive response I've gotten from several of you already we're busy planning future events. I want those to be better than this one if possible, and for this shootout to be just the start of some good fun.

I thought this was a good way for every one to see where they stand especially some of us rookie tuners and drivers.

for me this has been a nice confidence booster. I never expected to win anything. but I am not dead last as far as i can tell

Me, I enjoyed:
1) getting back into reviewing things, my holiday had rendered me even more crap at this than I was before, and this was a perfect excuse :D
2) the whole 'community' feel, it's an event, not just some badges and a lot of meaningless numbers and words (kinda like this post, really)
3) good restrictions, making each test slightly different, and generally helping me learn more about the cars the tuner makes

To make it even better:
1) Loosen up slightly on the restrictions, though they are good, 5 days or so of driving the same kind of car just gets on your nerves
2) make sure everyone who puts their name down meets the deadline -.- :grumpy:
3) host it again :D Be the host, and I'd take part instantly, regardless (well……with a few exceptions…i.e Priuses and boring crap like that)

-------------------------------END---------------------------------

Thank you to everyone who took part for putting your time and effort into this. Even though if we had our disagreements at times, and even though the mods had to intervene at times, it's been a pleasure to take part in this shootout. Good, cheesy thank you's done, I'll start thinking of something sincere to write on the 2nd post.

I think this has been a very good way to show off which tuners are more skilled than others, and what cars are better to tune for speed in this ranking. It's inspired me to try and organize a shootout in the autumn/fall. No telling you what it is yet though :embarrassed: Besides which the foundations for it aren't complete quite yet.

Very good experience, very positive for everybody, tuners (shure) ,testers and readers (i hope).
Just one point to correct for me, we need to think about a less subjective and more rationally way. With points for a given test for example. Like:
Accel: 1 to 10
Brake: 1 to 10
Top speed: 1 to 10

Gears: 1 to 10

Cornering:
Enter:1 to 10
Mid: 1 to 10
out:1 to 10

Driving pleasure /sensations :easy = 10 to skilly= 1

And of course : Laptime: points?? coeficient??

Just an idea, but with this it'll be easiest for the tester, and for who have to make a ranking at the end.

Less subjective more objective.

The only thing for improvement off the top of my head, I would say probably limit the tuners to 10 or so, at least for a regular basis, and without taking a stab at anyone, probably dis-allow one tuner from tuning multiple cars at different drivers requests, etc.
In other words, using myself for example, I can tune a car, OR I can assist someone else in their tune, but not both.
JMO.

Likes:

1. Big community involvement
2. Drivers of all skill levels
3. I got to know some of you and made some friends in the process.
4. Plenty of laughs

dislikes:

1. Tuner cars being allowed.
2. Too much variation in testing standards.
3. Drama
4. Tunes not being run as intended.
5. Not really a dislike, but maybe limit next time the amount of tuners and testers allowed to participate. Testers won't get burned out by driving so many tunes, tuners wont have to wait long for the results.

What do you mean by tunes not being run as intended?

Guys, this event are awesome, im gonna look forward for MR, FR and AWD events.

i enjoyed the reading the posts in this thread, even thou 60% are non related. Some info's are shared. And its a no fun if there are no jokes around....

Keep up the good works guys, its much appreciated.

Maybe next time, limit the cars to one of each, first in gets what they want. Everyone else gets what's left. This would make it more interesting for the testers. They would also be scrambling to submit.

The 1-10 system would be ok. But you would need clear categories that would not muddle the review or give too much merit for looks/sound.

Finally, maybe the X1 vs 2CV or what ever that is called should be an open convertible instead. Then the head would be exposed!

One of the testers ran my Integra at 347 HP, not the 350 HP like I have it listed.
Praiano63 tune was also ran by the same tester at the incorrect spec as well. And do not get me wrong, I appreciate his time and effort but it came across as a bit sloppy to me. I just think if your going to do something do it right, if not don't do it at all. Also just to be clear I am not angry, upset, or looking to start any trouble, just pointing out a small oversite.

I agree with your point, I think that's why Desperado tried to get all tuners to share their cars.
I know I wasn't going to be able to break in 20 cars myself, so had I ran them all as bought by me, it would have been a slight issue.

And some of the issues were PP related, I found a few that just did not add up, I don't know if it's a NTSC/PAL/Japanese issue, or what, but before I added a few guys I had to run their cars at different specs than listed to be at 500pp.

So I would say for future events making it mandatory to share the car would always be helpful, and those without PSN can have someone else build/share a copy of their particular ride.

I know I only received a few FR from the testers. I was expecting more.

Agreed.

I bought nearly every car, but borrowed about 3 maybe. I bought them on 3 different game saves and shared them into one game. Then fine tuned them all before each drive.

This was a lot of work and I can see how someone might miss a couple of horsepower. But I didn't want to borrow if I could buy the cars. Maybe the shared cars option would be better next time.

Wow that sounds like it was a a lot of work, and I see your point. Maybe it wasn't made clear enough to the testers what the procedure was going to be??
I wouldn't of wanted any of the testers to spend their credits on my car, I mean its not you guys are ever really going to run these tunes online. Granted every tester might hold on to their favorite, but the rest would be a waste.

Eh, what's money? No really, I'm married, what's money?

All I need now is the votes tallied for the people's choice award. Then I can arrange to send it.

I was thinking maybe everyone should pick two cars, that's why I have a DC and "2nd DC on my reviews.
I forgot to pitch the idea, just figured if somebody's car was almost everyone's second favorite, he wouldn't lose out to a car 2 liked, and everyone else disliked, etc.
Just my two cents.

Are you shure it was'nt a squirrel or javali ?? Bumps ??on this track? i don't think so !!:)
The brakes ..... snatchy ???? :guilty: you break my heart !!!:guilty:
I don't understand this urban languages. But it seems my car is a garbage for you ! chiropractor , flipped on the roof.
Ok it's your point of view... Thanks and congrats for the great job.

Not garbage, of course. :) Perhaps we'll go with...different from my favored style. It was definitely a good car as noted by the position on the board. The harshness of the ride did rattle my eyeballs a little but in the end that doesn't matter. And I'm pretty sure that by now I've cleared all the small furry creatures from the track.

Regarding the brakes, I feel they were a little harder than I usually like. It seems to be setup for late braking? I did try to utilize every car's advantages and weaknesses to achieve a fast time and while I definitely needed to adapt to the brakes I think it definitely got my best effort. The Integras are up for seconds tonight so we'll see if that even improves some.

Everyone has done a great job on the cars. There isn't one that I don't like in some way; those that "disappoint" only do so in the comparative scope of this shootout. As sins1er (I think) said, it was outstanding fun to see all the different styles of tuning and then to adapt my driving to each one. :dopey:

Since I haven't been keeping up with the thread very well with all the, er..."banter" :D...

The best part of this comp for me has been the variety. Everyone tunes in a different way just as everyone drives in a different way. Even with several people using the same car, none feels like another.

For improvement...

  • Definitely make sure that each tuner is able to have their car shared. Have a short list of folks (other tuners, comp "staff") that are willing to host a car if for some reason a tuner is not able to share and make sure that they get in touch early.
  • I'm not sure that each car needs to be unique (only one of a particular car per comp instead of 4 of the same model) but it would certainly make for more variety.
  • In the photomode comps you are allowed to change your entry once before the deadline. That could work here as well. Have the drivers only start testing after the submission deadline so everyone is using the same thing. Of course, if the cars are shared this matters little in the end.
  • I think the biggest problem we had this time around was that we were changing some of the rules and guidelines as we went along. Given that this is a first shot it isn't unexpected and I don't think it is likely to happen in future comps.
This has been a lot of fun and my thanks to everyone who put it together and everyone who has participated. :sly:👍

Great observations & suggestions, I can't peg anything I disagree with.

Ok, who's ready to go again?

Wallthingies $23.59 RR Challenge!

I loved being involved. GT5 has made some pretty cool things available to communities like GTPlanet. Online racing series, photo contests, drift comps and now tuning comps. I'm not the best driver, but I tried. Being able to try the tunes and learn a little about how the different tunes reacted was great.

So thanks Kaz, thanks GT5, thanks Tuners and thanks Op/Ops.

I agree completely on the mandatory sharing point. I jumped in late but I'd have asily been able to test all the cars had they been shared. Not only that but if we build them ourselves you have engine breakin issues and of course time and credit issues.

Like I said before I joined in late but enjoyed reading each page of this thread and enjoyed driving the cars I got a chance to drive. The smoke show replays I have saved are something I'll enjoy in this game for a long time.

Thanks all!

been reading the reviews and you guys are amazingly good at these descriptions. I now know just enough to fix the eclipse tune up from the "Solar Eclipse" version to the improved "Total Eclipse" which will replace the tune in my Garage very soon.
such a learning experience! and I may even finish in the top half, in a car I entered just to be different! (seriously I bought an ITR and what a solid piece of equipment, just a few tweaks and I blew the eclipse out of the water within a few laps!, it.s easy to see why it was chosen by so many).
thanks much Everyone! and to Assasin and Onboy123 and Des, for putting it all together! just plain fun guys!

as for what to do better next time, I say do it with heart, like this event, and all the improvements will simply come naturally!

can't wait to get the email that the results are in!
