We need spoiler tags

I was just thinking of posting something into the Transformers thread in the "Movies & TV" forum, but it's a bit of a spoiler.

We need spoiler tags. I've seen them on a number of different forums, where you simply put
blah blah blah
, and it automatically blacks out the text against a black background. Users can then highlight the text to read it, or in one case I know, simply click once on the black box and it will display all of the text in white against the black background.

How easy would it be to impliment something like this? Definitely a lot easier than going in and custom-setting the background and text color for every spoilerish thing you want to post.

I'm not sure how much this is really needed, as we're not exactly dealing with time-sensitive information on a frequent basis (as opposed to large movie/tv show forums where I have seen this employed). However, it would be easy enough to implement, especially with the matching background color. I'll see what I can do.

It would also be useful for Oblivion, GTA, and other games with great storylines.

Not to give anything away, but...

The spoiler tag is here!

The color codes aren't disabled if you use the spoiler quotes ;)
but on the other hand, these tags are meant to hide text more easily, not make it harder to show text

And as you can see in my signature, links are still visible in the spoiler text.

I am the one and only Duck who shall rule all the ponds in the universe and create a factory of crackers. Booyah!

Oh, this is just too cool. I think the highlighted text should be black instead of white, but otherwise it's good.

That's why I like GTP. In another forum I frequent people have been asking for the spoiler tag add-on for months and the administrators did nothing so far. Here it took a day.

I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok, I sleep all night and I work all day!

THIS IS THE GREATAST INVENTION SINCE SLICED BREAD. :D

I believe it was, I like the spoiler tags better, the large bold print saying spoilers looks tacky. This is a clean and simple way to mask what others might not want to see but still look at given information. Also if you just had a large bold spoiler warning in a thread dedicated to one game you might accidentally see it while looking for other information, this way if you do not want to see it there really isn't any way you can accidentally do it.

Cool. Thanks, Jordan! :)

That was all I was suggesting, really.. just a low-key way to hide spoilers for those that don't want to read them. :)

You could just avoid the TV & Movies forum until you actually see the movie.

And so on, and so forth.

This reminds me of those "Yes and Know" books.

Hmmm, even a quick glance through this thread and I can already see a problem or two with this idea... it's pretty irritating having to highlight everybody's text just to see what is written - and being able to use this facility in signatures looks a bit untidy... I like the idea of people using spoiler warnings, but surely a simple "SPOILERS AHEAD" does the job just as well, as SS69 says...? As usual, it's a great idea that runs the risk of being abused...

edit: Does anyone know how to highlight text using the SIXAXIS controller?? I'm browsing GTP at home on my PS3, and I can't see any of the hidden text in this thread :(

You could always press your super duper mod edit button. 💡

He he, I didn't know we could do that! How cool is that? - TM ;)
