Weather condition prediction

I would like to know this too because as far as I can tell you cant see the weather without actually going into the race which is um to remain polite stupid. This means you either have a miserable race on slicks in the wet or you back out and change your tune to suit the race conditions then go back with a suitable setup

Even if all you get is a warning of potential rain prior to clicking start race at least you have something to work. The weather is really well done but this just seems like a huge oversight to me.

Definitely some info missing for this. I did a race at Suzuka on slicks, got caught in a torrential downpour mid-race to the point that I'd never have caught up the cars ahead of me. Went back to the tuning shop, bought and fitted Intermediates and tried again - completely dry this time, with not even a blip on the weather radar. Surely there should be a way to view that before the start - am I missing something?!

Definately needs to be some sort of forecast available before the race especially how undriveable it becomes and how quickly it can happen

You just have to look at the current weather before you start the race. If it's sunny with no clouds should be no rain. If it's dark and gloomy it's going to rain.
The sky was bright and blue on lap one - clouds rolled in and rain came on lap 3. The second race (on Intermediates) was getting overcast from the end of the opening lap but it didn't rain at all for five laps.

If they're modelling the weather, they should just let us see the radar in the pre-race screen (which seems more realistic than having it on an in-car screen anyway).

I wish that you could get a higher payout if the weather shows up and completely destroys your race....

Ran into this issue when it started raining midway through a lap on the Nürburgring whilst my car has racing tires installed. I had to back out and install wet tires to compete, because no amount of care prevented me from spinning out while the AI continued on racing.

I do hope they add a weather prediction to the menu before you start the race so it's not guess and check each race. I do like that it is seemingly random, like real life might be, but a forecast would be nice so you don't end up wasting time with the wrong tires.

Has anybody worked out the level of grip Intermediates have on a dry track? I may simply start running them all the time, they seem roughly equivalent to the Hards anyway.

They are definitely slower than hards. At best they may be similar to sports soft. Try it in the garage by changing tires and measuring the result.

I blame Luca.

Every time go to the cafe. My car is only one there. This one time he told me go take a picture. He must be getting a commision off that. He didn't even ask to see it. I think the cafe may be a front for some gambling ring. I may resort to reporting him to his boss, Sarah. :sly:

Is there a way to view weather conditions before you get to the race menu? In championships you can't just quit and pick up rain/intermediate tires because you end up quitting the championship altogether.

Talking of weather - is anyone else finding the weather radar a bit… er… useless currently? It’s so real-time that by the time it shows any change you’ve noticed it anyway through your windscreen.

I disagree, when it works correctly you can zoom out far enough to get a good idea of the rain clouds approaching. Press up and down like you would with the other MFD options, if you're wondering.

However, the radar is often inaccurate. I've had rain while the radar showed clouds far away, rain with the radar entirely clear (and no effect on track condition beyond visual), etc. The weather system, while great when it works, sometimes just doesn't work.

Even zoomed out I've never seen the rain coming. It starts raining and then almost instantly the whole radar gets taken over with the blue

That sounds like the radar not working properly then. Not very surprising, but disappointing.

The problem (one at least...) is the acceleration of time for some races then the radar is useless a good exemple is the mission 24mn of Le Mans I did it twice and I had the same issue, stoping after 2 laps to put fuel I had nothing on the radar but when I went out the pits it was raining hard ...

It does indeed seem that rain on the radar travels at 500km/hr. Probably due to the time acceleration.
Yeah, that's probably a factor too. Maybe the time acceleration should have no effect on weather? Or at least, on how quickly the clouds move.

This is so annoying. Started the race with sky looking fine pre-race. Didn't see anything on the radar and suddenly all hell broke loose and I went from 1st to 15th in the GT Tour 700 championship (on my 2nd run-through). Ruined the entire championship run.

The weather radar needs to be shown also in the Pit screen , there's been a number of times where I have made my tire choice before entering the pits, only to exit the pit and the weather has completely changed,
and a countdown timer in seconds till the car reaches the pit box.

Baffled by the absence of this feature, as it just destroys/makes races without warning. Not an issue in the longer races, but is just a total time-waster in the short races.

Not unrelated to this, can you see what tyres other cars are on?

Ive always checked in replays but not sure during a race.

Lol! I don't know how i missed this thread!

I did the manufacturers cup at Spa two weeks ago in the rain. The radar was useless and it was a gamble wether to go wet at the start or racing hard.

I noticed that the radar moved so fast during the race. So i decided to do some calculations. There is a scale of 50 miles on the weather radar. It took one storm a lap and a half to move 50 miles, which measures out to about 2.4 minutes.

Calculating speed by distance over time that storm was moving at 1,250MPH! Thats almost double the speed of sound! LOL

With a hundred mile square map the weather is usually taking about 30 seconds to travel 50 miles, a normal storm that far out might take two to three hours to reach you.

I think PD originally planned for the weather to move at a lot slower speed, thus a map that could be zoomed out to 100 mi square, in it's current state anything but the fully zoomed out map is useless. It might be better to just do away with the zoom feature all away and instead of reading 100 mi sq. be something like 5 mi sq.

It would have been nice if in the custom races there was a option to set the weather speed.
