Weekly Practice Community Race

Fun times tonight. Would have stayed longer, but my wife prepared a superb meal tonight. We were at an asian market the other day and picked up some prime roast meat. She made the most phenomenal beef bourguignon. Will probably get back on a little later, but i am west coast. Probably get on around 11:30 pacific.

Good news, bad news. Next week my wife will be out of town at a trade show. Lots of GT5 for me, nice. Digiorno and stouffers, not as nice.

It was crazy to have 16 in the room. Getting to be popular, lots of fun. Bigger rewards. A littly rough at the beginning of each race, but after that, there is always someone to race. Thanks for hosting Stig!

I will say that racing go-karts at SS7 with heavy damage was INSANE. I drove most of the lap with damaged right tires. You know how hard it is to keep it steady with a DS3?

Never again please, you have no idea what racing with a damaged kart is like, you think yours was bad, Scirv and I had to sit back with karts that couldn't even rev past 8.5k while you guys went and had a good time with eachother all because you guys wanted damage on, then YOU GUYS damage our karts and we have to sit back driving a boring straight with noone to race with and a long 10 minutes to wait. Not fun, please don't do that again, if we do I am putting some of you into the wall then it will be your turn to sit back, it sucks. :)

I had to bail early last night the girlfriend was getting pissed (she still doesn't understand what this comp means to me) but anyways i learned 2 things last night with you guys. 1. I only know about 10% of the tracks in the GT series coming from a forza background. 2. I still hate the NUrburgring. Anyways it was fun regardless and it was nice to put some voices with names for the most part.

I have never done online racing before and figured you guys would be out of my league.

So I tried just wandering around, looking for "rooms" to race in last night....

Couple of questions;

Where does the exorcist effect come from and how do I avoid it? It seemed like the computer was trying to predict where other people's cars were going to be and then making corrections when they didn't end up there. I'd see cars go into a corner too hot, make it for a second and then, POOF! they're on the outside guardrail in a cloud of smoke. (not making it) Very darty motions.

Also, in another race, I could hear one guy complaining to another that I was trying to take him out every time I made a move to pass him. (then he would promptly start banging his car against mine as if I wasn't already in the line.)

We aren't talking complex moves either. This was on indy and we were both flat footed in Minoltas. No sliding, everything stable. I was just timing the draft and getting inside. I swear I was at least a foot off his car (and half a car ahead) every time, but he'd say "he's trying to take me out" (before any contact) then start trying to take me out.

I even tried putting two tires off inside leaving as much room for him as possible, and delay track-out untill I was sure he was behind me, yet he seemed to do his level best to nail the back of my car before I completed the pass? While complaing to his friend that I was "taking him out"?

Sounds like lag to me. Especiallly the one second there, and then into the guardrail comment.

Don't worry. Smashing my knees with a hammer sounds more fun than doing THAT again.

Oh, and for the record, I hanged back a bit at the start and what I saw was 5 karts go 5 wide into the corner and someone on the left crashing and throwing up a ton of smoke. Totally saw it coming. :sly:

Don't think I'll make it tonight but if there's a room on Friday night, count me in. I will say that being forced to use a DS3 puts me in the middle of all the fun. Otherwise, I'd probably pull away from the carnage but I don't have the speed to really compete with the aliens.

Karting in a straight line is the most fun you can have on gt5 :dopey::crazy::dunce:

The top 6 were within .4 of each other on that race. GT and scir16v must have gotten lost... ;)

Couldn't join last night. After welding class and the gym there was a bruins/habs game on the DVR. Good thing I watched that game, it was a blast to watch.

I will be on tonight!

Guys, if Stig's room isn't open, feel free to join mine. (not trying to steal any folks from the John Deere club, just serving it up as an option to build awareness.) Had some EPIC battles w/ ConmanSkills and good racing with GlennMcgee,Lapier,Blindside and JoeyFast last night and many others all week. More info here: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=145384

Bring a laidback attitude, and your best driving skills as the competition is intense. Admittedly, I run this lobby a bit more strict than others, and always run low penalty and light damage, as both discourage and tend to eliminate issues regarding course cutting and contact/punting, along with bouncing off walls. This is less a social lobby, more of a Sunday club race. I run solely spec racing battles, same car for everyone, same tires. The atmosphere is lighthearted, but everyone is pushing very hard in quali and race for some good clean fun.

Not to sound like a nazi, but punting people will land a warning and then a swift "boot" from the room. Your goal in turn 1 should be to simply get through it clean and not tag the guy in front of you. To maintain quality, I limit the race to 12 partcipants. Hope to see you on.

Once I can use the wheel again, I'll give it a go. With the DS3, I'd be nothing more than a rolling chicane out there.

So your room is serious business, and Stig's room is the fun one. Got it. 👍 I will probably add you later, I was trying to get some real racing going for a while.

Ya, it's probably a good thing multiple rooms are starting up - Stig's room got up to 16 players last night, I'm sure some people weren't even able to join because it was full.

Yup got a bunch of sad messages about it :( We ran a bunch of spec racing last night as well.

I'll stay in contact with Forced to ensure that if either of our lounges is running low on people, we can combine.

Hope to see you all tonight!

Yeah I couldn't get in, but you were doing serious racing at the time. Since I'm not in GTAcademy anymore, I'm more in the mood for mayhem than serious racing. Message me for the mayhem rooms!

Haha definitely will do, mayhem did ensue last night although it came in the form of kartracing and drifting interestingly enough.

most penalized game in history; totally bonkers.
only thing missing was both goalies dropping the gloves at center ice.

Thought the goalies did fight last night. According to my msn news this morning.

They thought about it; but neither of them was really interested. More of an ice dancing spectacle. Biron vs Emery was the last proper goalie fight.

On a related on-topic note... I'll be too inebriated after the sabres game tonight to do any driving.

See you all on Friday.

bruins/wings are tonight. It might actually be a close game seeing as how the wings have been sucking as of late ;)

sorry that's a lie, it's tomorrow (friday)
