I've searched and haven't found much information as to how weight reduction is beneficial to a drag tune. In fact, in some instances it seems as less weight is hindering a cars performance. Common sense tells you a greater hp:weight ratio = faster acceleration. But it also tells you that less weight provides less traction. In a sport where the main event lasts less than 10 seconds, victories come down to thousanths of seconds and even the most miniscule details of your work are magnified in the performance (or lack thereof) of your tune, every ounce of potential needs to be extracted from these cars. If your car has the same hp, but weighs more than your opponents, you trap 141 at 1/4 mile and he 145. But get this, your time was 9.413s and his 9.729s due to his excessive wheelspin and inability to gain traction. You achieved your victory through superior launch due to maintaining traction. Although your opponent was going faster when he got there, you got there faster. Therefore you win.
