Economy? You know that this car will loose 50% of its value in 2 years? How can people point Diesel economy as a big advantage for cars, which cost about 60-80k € and loose 50% of it in a few years.

In Germany big Diesel engines are popular, but 30-40% of all sold new E Class/5 Series here go to private people, most of them drive the smaller engines, not the big V6 Diesels. Most people who drive them get the car leased by the company they work for.

Big Diesels aren't selling outside of Germany and Austria, China and the US are much more important and those markets are dominated by Petrols.

So a $75,000 Sport Sedan will be worth $35,000 in a few years? Dont you know there are 2012 SRT Chargers that are still going for over $40,000? hell there are STOCK 2009 SRT8 Challengers going for as high as 36K. thats about 6k Less when it was new....i just seen a 2005 Maserati QP going for 49k! thats a 8 year old sedan.

Nice interior. That pretty much redeems the dull exterior for me. Now to hear how it drives.

I'm confused what the depreciation rates of a Dodge in America have to do with the depreciation rates of a Maserati in Europe.

Especially when looking over how much Maserati Quattroportes go in America these days shows that they are generally worth not far from half as much in only a few years.

I think there's a problem when I genuinely had to make a double take to check it wasn't just a Quattroporte with a pretty kit stuck on..

I mean come on... it should simply be sold as a facelifted Quattroporte - or at least not a Ghibli =/

It looks good though, just plain - especially since we've already seen a car that looks nearly identical.

The interior is the best bit by far but that's not enough to redeem itself from the fact that it is indeed ugly. Just work harder and buy a Quattroporte, better looking, more drama. Perfect Italian four door.

If Maserati say that the Ghibli is a 5-Series rival, then if it was to truly work in Britain, they would have to create an estate version using a small 2.0 turbo diesel engine (likely from Alfa Romeo) to appeal better here, since one of the best selling variants of the 5-Series is the 520d Touring.

It's an improvement over the QP. Not sure what that dash is all about though.

Or maybe it was Kia who copied off the Gran Turismo's Design? Because the Ghibli exterior design language came from the GT's.

and im sorry but the only parts of the Dash that looks like the 300's is the Center Stack (which obviously protrudes outward and Lower than the 300's) and set up of the instrument cluster.

When a manufacturer re-uses an old name, they should at least make the car in the same class or segment.

You can't call that a Ghibli, when this was a Ghibli.

You've got that right, mate. This 'new' Ghibli is really nothing special. Basically what Maserati has done is forced the Gran Turismo and the Quattrporte to have sex with each other making this the final result. There seems to have been really no effort at all by the Maserati designers into making something new.

And to be honest, I think this is the perfect demonstration of the downfall that Maserati is currently going through. With this new 'Ghibli,' Maserati now offers three cars (not considering the numerous variations of each) in its lineup, all of which practically look like alike. Maserati today is a lot like that family with three children that all look frighteningly similar, they say they're different, but you still have your doubts.

Maserati truly needs help before they go completely under. In the 1950s and 1960s, you couldn't list the top five sports car makers without naming Maserati. Back then they offered cars such as the 3500 GT, the Sebring, and the Mistral; classic sports car icons of today. Now when you are asked to name the top five best sports car makers and finish naming all five, the person who asked you to name them asks you, "What about Maserati?," to which you reply, "Right, I forgot about them. They're somewhere in the top ten. I think."

This Ghibli name revival doesn't make much sense either when you compare the two cars. The 1970 Ghibli was a 2+2 coupe, and yet this new car is to be considered as the marque's compact four-door sports car. It just doesn't add up. Hopefully Maserati will soon get that much-needed smack in the face to bring back their sanity, because right now they're really pissing me off.

Actually they're doing remarkably well saleswise, regardless if the current cars are to your or my taste, they did signifcantly worse when they did build those iconic GT's you mentioned.

As for the cars looking all somewhat similar, that's also nothing new (disregarding the Biturbo era for now).

I mean, before the brief period they were owned by Citroën in the seventies which saw some really unique designs like the Bora and Khamsin, Maserati was more known for beautiful, classy, understated but slightly conservative styling nonetheless.
And with the way they're currently positioned (below Ferrari, and a different type of car) and have been for almost 3 decades now (even before Fiat bought it and it was owned by DeTomaso) I don't get why this approach comes as a surprise.
Naming it a Ghibli is an odd choice though but I like the car itself, what some seem unremarkable (it could've turned out better looking though) is understated to others.

Where do you see a Compact Four-door?? Cause clearly the new Ghibli is a Full size Sedan.... Whats better, a 2 Door Liftback Ghibli like the previous Generation or this New 4 Door?.

Wow, it does look amazing on this metallic blue paint. Not so much on the front but the design kinda works overall. I bet it's fantastic to behold in the metal.

I am not really into Maserati to be honest. There are only two Maseratis I've liked all-time: the MC12 and the GranTurismo. This one is... alright. It is a bit better looking to me than the Quattroporte. Otherwise, I just don't really like Maserati all that much. I try to be open, but even sometimes that fails.

I still looks weird, could just be some a Kia or Hyundai without the badges.

The 5th Gen Quattroporte was excellent looking and very unique, they never got it right with the range ever since... apart from the first Gran Turismo.
