Stories.

Stories are a small group of musicians that invite indie singers to record stripped back versions of popular or well known songs. Following the death of Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters) a few years back, they released a cover of 'My Hero' featuring Jennah Bell on vocals.

When I woke up this morning I didn't know there was..
A new single!
A new album in June AFTER 23 YEARS!
And I was going to see them again (At the LONDON O2) AFTER 30 YEARS!
I've never forgotten Jarvis flying over the crowd on a zip wire at the start 😁

And it's a Cocker cracker too...

Cool, I'll have to check that out later...thanks for the heads-up. Been trying to find some different styled music to listen to.

Stumbled in to the below thread over on the GT7 forums...

'Your most liked and disliked song(s) in GT7?'

Which put one song in my head that isn't even from GT7, but GT Sport...

More ancient rock music (and one recent album).

Pixies' Surfer Rosa was great all the way through its short runtime. I didn't like it when I bought it but I love it now. It sounds like Brix-era Fall and Steve Albini really knows how to record a snare drum. The b-sides to "Monkey Gone To Heaven" and "Here Comes Your Man" didn't disappoint either.

Doolittle's up next but I adored that album when it came out ("No. 13 Baby" being my favourite track at the time) and don't expect that to change thirty-six years later. While researching these albums today I learnt that "Wave Of Mutilation" has a similar macabre subject matter to Eminem's "Stan".

Beggars Banquet is another of those albums on which I instantly liked every track and the 50th Anniversary Edition sounds great. The bouncy Bill bassline on opener "Sympathy For The Devil" sounds detailed and animated to me and Keef and the percussionists stand out clearly without the rest of the band taking a sonic hit.

I didn't like Let It Bleed quite as much when I bought the CD back in the mid nineties but given its reputation I'm hoping I'll appreciate it now.

Still in a dad-rock mood, so I've loaded up some classic Iggy Pop and (and, in some cases, "&") David Bowie to blast through once I finish the Stones's core four albums and Hackney Diamonds. I eventually want to try some of Bowie's later stuff like Earthling, Outside, and the redone real-strings version of Never Let Me Down but for now I'm concentrating on the 1969-1980 period for which I've raided his boxed set retrospective series from Parlophone.

Last time I heard them (around the Rykodisc reissue era) I was more of a fan of Hunky Dory's quirky ballads than Ziggy Stardust's full on glam thrash but let's see what another listen with fresh ears brings.

Halfway through the album and aside from "Gimme Shelter" and "You Can’t Always Get What You Want" it's still a long way from being the perfect Stones album for me.

If only they'd used the non-country "Honky Tonk Women" instead of the original version which I didn't enjoy nearly as much. Nothing against Nanette Newman (who isn't even on the track anyway) but I've half a mind to put Country Honk on the skip list next time I give this a listen.

Kirsty MacColl - The End Of A Perfect Day. I personally always preferred her songwriting to her singing but this Johnny Marr co-written track was too tempting to resist for me.

Halfway through Exile On Main St. and I'm glad I finally got the chance to listen to this. It's great so far and fully deserving of its reputation as far as my ears can tell.

Not sure but I think this is the 2012 Japanese flat master transfer.
