Hello fellow planeters,
I've been doing PP racing since GT5, joining friends' or hosting my own lobbies.
Throughout GT6 and GTS lifetimes, it's the main thing I did, racking up around 1 million km on the Nordschleife.
I'm not the fastest driver nor the best tuner but I can ride with fast guys, winning is something else but at least staying within a couple of seconds of the winning car was never an unreachable result.
Comes in GT7 and I'm getting absolutely chopped and diced by a lot of people. LOTS of people.
So nerdy me saves replays and gets on the "sudden level-drop case" investigation.
I obviously noticed my lack of top speed compared to every other entry before anything else, but it took a couple more minutes to understand that the different hp levels were a consequence of the PP rating system taking into account the suspension settings.
My benchmark was a PP420 CM Nordschleife lobby where the same car I was using was lapping around 20 seconds faster than I was.
The 20-second gap wasn't my first time getting torn to pieces in a humbling fashion but the way the gap opened was a bit different than what I am used to when running among top-tier drivers. And the guy was, with all due-respect, like me far away from the skill levels I can observe and identify when watching aliens.
After fiddling around, the AE86 tune I had running at 132hp on 900kg now was 235hp on 900kg, mainly thanks to a reverse rake ride height exploit.
It makes for a really unpleasant experience, the cars being absolute rockets on the straights and then having to crawl your way around corners with minimal time loss. Although times are faster, the driving impression isn't.
The group of racers I raced with in GTS had almost daily events/series and it was at some point even a bit too much to follow but the state of lobbies and PP racing/rating has caused this group's members to almost completely retire from GT7.
As we are trying to revive a bit of the enthusiasm we had in GTS, I was wondering what the gtplanet community has come up with to mitigate the undesired effects of the PP rating system.
We are testing hp and car weight regulations rather than PP limitations of course but I'd love to hear what great tricks the masterminds of this forum have found, or what classes or de facto categories have emerged to have balanced machines. Are there alternative BoPs that you've found to work well?
Thank you for reading,
