What do people think of memes?

I've never really got them myself but they seem to be a big craze at the moment. They are kind of funny at first like the "He will never get a girlfriend meme" and "Bad Luck Brian" but I don't know what in the world possessed someone to think that Gene Wilder being patronising would be hilarious?

I just don't really get them, what about you? Do you like them?

Well Gene Wilder does have a patronising face in that picture, but some of them are a bit hard to grasp; socially awkward penguin springs to mind.

Yeah, they can be quite funny but I find it hard to understand them often. Someone at my sixth form made a page for memes and that was funny because you could relate to them and he used a range of memes but the material of patronising Wilder does wear thin after a bit.
He does look quite patronising to be fair though.

Some memes are great, while some others are just overused. Half the time it's not funny because it's taken way out of context, and somehow, the author expects the readers to find it funny simply because the meme was included.

They just strike me as kids trying to be smart-arses. Pointless little wastes of time that weren't even funny the first time around.

For me, memes are usually hilarious when used correctly. There's also a lot of people who seem to miss the whole point, and of course overusing dilutes the funniness quite a bit :ouch:

I think memes are funny, but some are overused and get old within a day.

If they are clever, they can be very funny, others are just lame. 9gag.com sometimes has some good ones.

Pretty much this. Plus, a ton of memes aren't even used correctly. See the old GT5 meme thread for examples.

I don't get the premise, personally...it's like hearing the same punchline dozens of times in rapidfire succession. It was annoying before the advent of the internet, and technology hasn't made that idea any more fresh.

As said above, I think they're great when they're used in context and are relevant to the situation, otherwise they get old pretty fast.

When done right, they can get a good laugh. Some are meh, some are overused, and then there's some where the creator misses the point of the meme completely. Unfortunately, some memes only have a limited amount of uses, such as the Overly Attached Girlfriend. But I'd like to see memes stick around.

My opinion is like most things, facebook has ruined them. The best and funniest memes are usually the ones you wouldn't post on facebook to begin with.

I think they're hilarious when used correctly. However less and less people know how and will use it stupidly. Most recently I saw the mordor one with the caption "And the spider was literally this big". Now that, if at any point is a FFUUUUU moment.

I use internet memes in real life. I said "Son, I am disappoint." at least twice last night, but because the people I use them with also know the memes therefore it's funny. I would never comment on something my mother did well by saying "Like a baws" because I'd look stupid.
