Depends on when, where and how I'm driving.
As mentioned previously I spend a fair chunk of time driving interstate and through the country, so for a 9 hour drive where 8 hours involves sitting on cruise control, yeah, you're going to go through the CDs.
My personal preference is alternative, but a list of bands in the CD wallet would include:
- Radiohead
- Doves
- Midnight Oil
- Ghostwriters
- Sigur Ros
- Massive Attack
- Pulp
- Neil and Tim Finn (inc. Crowded House)
- Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
- Ben Folds (both Five and solo)
- The Strokes
- Sigur Ros
- Smog
- REM
- Gomez
- Placebo
- Pearl Jam (later stuff)
- Ian Brown
- Smashing Pumpkins
- Coldplay
That covers most of my moods. I'm a bit lucky in Australia as one of the major players of alternative type music is a Government youth radio station, Triple J, and it's national, so if none of the CDs appeals I've always got that to fall back on.
If I'm driving through a windy country road and I'm pressing on a bit or having some fun, aural entertainment is provided by a Subaru 2.5 litre flat four working between 4500 and 6200 rpm.
